As a trans person who is not a Christian, I was not a fan and I side eye a bunch of things that happened under his watch as far as cover ups and corruption. That said, he was better than I had any hope of him being and so much better than predecessors in so many ways and on so many issues. He DID represent progress, even though he didn't go as far as one would wish. His anti-authoritarian moves were important.

I am really worried about what comes next.

So many things are getting so much worse. I would love for the catholic Church to keep moving forward, even if not as quickly as I would wish, instead of back sliding into horror.

* Wednesday, on my way out the door to collect Millennials for group errands, I found a bureaucracy packet. Worryingly, it was not the standard bureaucracy packet. O.o It takes the same documents I already had assembled for the late April or early May bureaucracy, which helps, but also suggests a second, more complicated bureaucracy will arrive soon.

I worked on it the whole time Millennials were here, and finished it, except for the one piece I need someone to print off the computer. Last time I circled and labelled the relevant items on the bank statements and it worked out. It would be better to belt and suspenders it, but in any case I hope to drive the packet and documents up there for copying, stamping, and filing.

I like to turn them in as early as I can just generally, but speed is extra important now, given the givens.

Bonus I have all the items ID number marked so when I have to take them back to the same office within the month that will speed things up a bit on my end. *eye roll*

I did not sort the things assorted people dumped on the floor and shoveled back in the wrong place repeatedly last Summer and Autumn, but I need to. I keep a year of documents out in case there is random surprise bureaucracy in the off season (Which really does happen). I just need to go through them now before boxing them for seven year storage, in case something got in there that shouldn't.

So that's a couple hours, but less urgent.

It did eat my whole evening, alas.

I’ve stated some form of this over the years any number of times, but in the current climate, I should reiterate it.

My dislike of Netanyahu and his ultra-right positions is specific to Netanyahu because of his ultra-right positions, his corruption, his policies, etc.. His party and allies have policies I oppose, much in the way I oppose Trump and the Republicans, Rishi Sunak (and Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, and every Tory PM back to the much hated Thatcher which was about when I started following UK Politics in real time), Viktor Orbán, Jair Bolsanaro, and a host of other horrible extreme right wing politicians the world over to numerous to list.

This does not and should not be taken for anger at the Israeli left or Jewish people the world over who did not vote for a right wing party in the recent Israeli election. There is a reason my coverage of Israeli politics mostly originates from left leaning Israeli news sources like Haaretz.

There is far too much violent antisemitism in the world right now, far to many politicians of every stripe happy to stoke antisemitism for personal power, far too many antisemitic movements and the like. In my country one of the two political parties with any power proudly embraces it.

This I am furious about and very much wish to fight against.

Please don’t take the recent election in Israel as an excuse to do or say something that harms real people who have nothing to do with it or were actively wanting a better outcome.

It is important to separate a dislike of a particular person for political reasons from a wider attack on a large group living in many countries famously holding a wide variety of beliefs and opinions.

How The “No Child Left Behind” Act Failed on Every Level

When this was passed teachers called it things like “children Left behind” because we could see it was designed to starve neighborhood schools so Republicans could close them, forcing busing to other schools and shifting funding even further away from the schools that need it into charter schools that can bar students who are poor, or not white, or who have limited English, or who have special needs.

This is about de facto segregation. It’s about starving public schools of funds. it’s about excuses to deprive the students with the biggest needs of an education.

All “Back to Basics” school “reforms” are about defending music, art, social studies, and sciences, because Republicans hate anything that keeps children from dropping out and/or teaches critical thinking. Science and social studies teach things like applying logic to real world problems, evaluating evidence, and thinking for yourself. The last thing they want is accurate history or modern science taught to children.

All Republicans want is to create an ignorant easily manipulable permanent underclass that votes for them. Quality Public education in anathema to them.

Republicans keep saying, “you can’t just through money at the problem,” yet never once in the history of this country have we tried funding the schools for the poor at the level we fund schools for the well off. we know objectively that 15-18 students is the sweet spot for class size at all grades. why not for once try paying teachers a living wage and hire enough of them to give every class room the same student/teacher ratios private schools have. How about instead of pennies per student per day we actually buy enough equipment and supplies so that all students get to do hands on science instead of only students who already have all the advantages? How about paying for proper maintenance on schools so the heating works and the pipes don’t bang and the roof doesn’t leak? How about money for computers and library books? How about desks and chairs so every student in every class gets one as well as a locker that closes and locks?

Can’t we try that just once?

Teaching pays about as well as Burger King and teachers owe student loans and need to pay for continuing ed and certification re-upping. They need supplies for themselves and students and a professional wardrobe and money for transportation and to pay off massive student loans, plus food, housing, medical stuff, etc.. out of what amounts to minimum wage.

Nobody goes into teaching expecting to get rich; they do it because they want to teach. Punishing them because the schools are falling apart and the textbooks are as old as they are is counter-productive. Actually funding the schools properly would let them do their jobs.

But no one ever ask teachers when they do “school reform.” It is nearly always imposed by people who’ve never taught based on ignorance and a deep refusal to look at the research.

* The emperor has been trying to break into one of the presents since it arrived, including an attempt to unwrap it the second I pulled it from the box. * Since the Pandemic started, I put out bowls of candy. each bowl has a handful of things. Adults are welcome too, and I usually give out a lot of candy. This year one person stole the bowl itself, and no one else came. I think the three families with kids have moved out, since i haven't seen or heard them playing since summer. I've noticed that the other people that usually decorate in the complex didn't this year. It's sad.

I did get reverse trick or treated and Squirrel and I split the loot. Weirdly, it was not the bowl thief.

* October is always really hard on my body and particularly so in the back half. Halloween week takes everything I have really. Samhein is the most important holiday of my year and it takes everything.

Wednesday my body hard vetoed Wednesday errands. I called Head Millennial in time for them to get public transport and make evening arrangements. I could barely walk and had the pain shakes. One days like this, it's best to just take ones meds and go back to sleep and home a nap will reset things. This was correct. When I tried again later, I was a functional level of awful. We managed to take in the Halloween specific exterior stuff and box it all up. I'll need to tweek the "Harvest Display" and do a day time sweep to be sure we got everything before boxes go back into storage. Halloweentown is in chaos, but that's another day's problem.

Head Millennial went above and beyond today. I love how fundamentally kind and trustworthy they are. we had dinner together and watched a movie we'd started a week ago, geeking out together about the high quality lighting design and mourning the death of banter in modern romcoms as well as how few productions are willing to pay for really artistic lighting. (I sited Black Sails as proof the art isn't lost, even though we might think it was looking at the newest Halloween and Got/house of the dragon. Head Millennial is very grumpy about Halloween franchise in particular.)

It sounds like Visiting Millennial has decided to move up here, so at some point in the future they will be Newest Millennial. There is much rejoicing.

NOTE for newer readers: I like to use sobriquets to prevent people chain tracking through blogs. It was always my instinct and I got stricter after that reporter found me through the blog of a friend who wasn't as careful after Skye was murdered. It was fine. She was nice and professional and my friend changed the post in case of future accident. My point is that a determined swatter could find me, but I like to make them work for it if they want my friends.

* Another disabled Elder Goth friend suggested there should be a "Retired Goth Bat sanctuary" for people like us. This delights me.

* Thursday was the blue beast's mechanic appointment. They are always booked for weeks out this time of year. This meant very little sleep, but the coolant situation is sorted and I should be okay on the engine not melting for a while. *Knock wood*

Friday I just wanted sleep, but of they woke me up trying to strong arm me into a home health assessment. Thing is, it's an excellent service and an important one. My mother used them in her last year of life when her health was failing. They assess the person; they assess the needs; they help organize complex meds schedules; they hook people up with services. I support the program and said so to the lady, but I do not want one.

Why? She wanted to know. I do not need what they are offering and I don't like strangers in my home it's invasive. I don't need a dementia test. I have a home health aid. My meds schedule is, indeed, complex, but it's logical. (Think of it as a logic puzzle. Pills needing to be taken on an empty stomach need to go first thing in the morning. Ppills needing to be taken with food need to be at least an hour after empty stomach pills, and need to work with meal scheduling. Some pills can't be taken within two hours of each other, etc.. Some pills need to be taken multiple times a day. For a while I had a pill that needed to go four times a day, at least two hours after eating and an hour before eating. It was a nightmare, but I did it.) I do not want people tampering with the schedule, because every adjustment is a hassle and a half, and I have it down. The point is, it's my body deteriorating, not my mind, and I handle things just fine within my physical limits and I hate all the invasive monitoring that comes with living in this complex and that comes with being disabled. I minimize it where I can.

So I go to the bathroom, give Livia a come for pettins offer, reset my pillow prop system, and settle back in to try to sleep.

The phone rings. It's the system that pay for my caregiver. Mandatory home inspection. *deep sigh* I managed to wiggle out of this one so far because of the pandemic. It's so intrusive and I fucking hate that I don't get to have privacy because I'm disabled. I can't manage without Head Millennial, so I guess we're doing that Monday, plus the already scheduled social worker call Tuesday.

* I know it's been one disaster after another since November, but here we fucking are again.

The tooth thing that went wrong Tuesday that I thought was the usual bullshit turned out not to be. this meant no opioids for the surgical pain and thus at most two hours of super low quality sleep brought

So I went to the emergency dentist. It's bad. Apparently no one who does root canals takes medicare. I've no idea what it will cost as no one is open on Fridays. I left messages around. IDK. Given my lack of success with raising oven money, I doubt I can afford it.

I go back Tuesday before my surgical post surgical check and they will do what they can to save the tooth for now by trying to recap it. Odds are sixty forty on that. If I lose the bet I lose an essential middle molar I need for chewing on the more functional side of my mouth.

I injured myself rather badly trying to push the forage delivery box out of the way so I could leave the sofa. I will not know for a few days just how badly.

Now here's the real kicker. You know how I hate taking opioids because of that rare genetic thing that runs on my Mother's side of the family and the whole partially expressed gene thing that also triggers with anti-psychotics and at least some other psych meds? You know how I wanted off the oxy so bad I kept stretching between doses until I went into shock last Friday? And the whole switching to tramadol except for sleep Sunday and the barely taking tramadol mostly for sleep all week thing? Yeah, well the dentist was like you really need to take half an oxy so you can sleep. It'll be alright.

It is not. I've been getting weird little precursor warning sign things, like when I have a high fever, but nastier in tone. It was reminding me very much of the time they tried antidepressants for my post concussive syndrome, but it did nothing so they kept upping the dose and upping the dose until I had full spectrum hallucinations and paranoia? In that case I was rational and worked out pretty quick I was hallucinating and it was the anti-depressant.

So you know the thing that happened with my sensative to opiods relatives What does a hospital do when they have a violent person having an apparent psychotic break? They put them on anti-psychotics. What do anti-psychotics do to people with this rare ass genetic thing? Cause paranoia and hallucinations.

Yeah, so the half an oxy caused me to hallucinate today. It was only visual and I was rational, so that's good. It took about two hours for the blood level to drop enough to make it stop, but I'm super not enjoying the adrenaline surges and tachycardia.

I maybe managed about two hours of sleep later. At best. interrupted by what I think of as rotten orange dreams. This is a metaphor. This is how unpleasant sharp and vivid a rotting orange smells up close. Yeah. They aren't nightmares in the something scary sense, but fundamentally unpleasant in the something feels not right in my brain sense. They are the sort of dreams I get with a high fever, only the opioid version is nastier in flavor. it's hard to explain. so this was yet another impetus for taking as little oxy as I could get away with and just doing AS meds when I'm not trying to sleep most of this week, because even the tramadol has started giving me that kind of dream.

I suspect the issue here was that the last month before the operation it was incredibly hard to sleep without something to take the edge off the pain a little I was doing my in emergencies only three times a week and just making do with the very little sleep otherwise. (Normal, it's one or two tramadol at most in a month and only with things like, it hurts to much to move or U keep bursting into tears trying to make food because the pain is that bad or I'm being stabbed in the head headaches).

Add to this the post surgical meds and the oxy I had to take after for days to fend off shock and the tramadol I scaled down to as soon as I could begin to cope with the pain level and this is the most opioids I've allowed in my system since a botched surgery over a decade.

There are still two non-opioid techniques left in my quiver, but it is likely I will have to take a tramadol again between now and whenever it stops feeling like stabbing when I move in my sleep wrong, because Wednesday and Thursday night proved I can't yet get more than a couple hours of low quality sleep at best on just the AS meds. Long term insomnia also makes one hallucinate.

So I'm a mess. I'm going to be a mess for at least another week. links are backing up again, many of them urgent. Please be patient if I'm not up to the usual quality.

I don't know how much I actually need there as the price fluctuates. we were $5-600 short when it was on sale. I am disabled and medically fragile. Not having a working oven is messing with my nutrition, but again being able to use that side of my mouth is worse:

* I spent a lot of the last week and a half dealing with bureaucracy. I had it really streamed lined in the prep phase. I should have known it was too easy. They literally moved the office where i was supposed to turn it in, plus all the associated proceedures. my sleep cycle is a mess.

Friday I stayed up to do phone calls. Later, I realised too late I'd forgotten half of them. I'm also dealing witrh yet more appartment management company bullshit, plus physical stuff related to the reason i need surgury.

I got my Covid second booster, so expect to be a mess for the weekend. I wrestled with it ethically. I am in the high risk group (for three reasons now), but also there are countries where people have had no shots at all. What decided me not to wait until August was Omicron BA variant contagiousness plus my upcoming surgury. This is agony and my shoulder is deteriorating badly thanks to the extreme limits on my physio. I don't want to lose another two to three months for a posative COVID test right before surgury.

I still feel like an asshole snatching a shot someone likerly needs more than I do.

* We are planning to use most of squirrel's tax rebate to get a working oven, but the dishwasher is also broken. (The dishwasher is a safety thing because I am medically fragile. Not having a working oven is playing havoc with my nutrition.) My share of the oven plus fixing the dishwasher will likely be in the $600-700 range.

(I am disabled and queer in at least three senses of the word and on a fixed income).

Why not all of his tax refund? he’s in a medical insurance gap and is having an emergent health crisis. He couldn’t have paid for both things anyway.
