* We are in primary season. States vote at different times, so I beg ALL of you to check when your state is voting. If you are in an in-person vote state, research ahead of time so you can vote for the candidate with views closest to your own. If you vote by mail, take the time to look them up when your ballot comes.
THIS is how you move the party further LEFT.
PLAN YOUR VOTE!!!
Primary schedule here:
* "2026 Statewide Primary Calendar:" https://www.270towin.com/2026-state-primary-calendar/
I don't know where you live, so I can't link this for you, but I find the Progressive Voter Guide online very helpful in narrowing down candidates in the often packed primaries where I live.
I also suggest looking at things like volunteer work and endorsements, because it really, really helps with things like sheriff and judicial elections, but can be useful in all sorts of primaries when you have multiple good options.
REMEMBER: Don't just vote for the big things like US Congress. Vote in every State and local race down to the smallest and on all the referendums.
State and local elections have a massive impact on your quality of life.
* Hawaii Primaries! Don't forget to vote by August 8!

* Wednesday, I went to get my head examined to see what, if anything was wrong with it. (Not exactly. They were CTing my head in hopes of working out what is wrong with my sinuses.) I am still sick with whatever been wrong for almost half a year. We are still waiting for Medicare to clear me to see a specialist, but the specialist will want the scan anyway, and my GP can order it, so this is a way of saving time and it means the specialist will have a far better idea of what's going on if I ever do get that first appointment.
The CT appointment was during rush hour. I knew this and planned for it. I even made it out of my room in time to clean up messes mammals made while I was asleep, and to nip down the road for fresh fruit and drop it off quick via the patio door.
It is still way too hot, but luckily not as bad as Monday. The sky was alarming in the east, which given how bad the fires are is not surprising. I try not to use air-conditioning as it burns so much gas, but between the heat and the air quality and the dipping on and off the highway around traffic jams, there wasn't really a choice if I wanted to breath properly. Even with having to do a chunk of the trip north on surface roads, I arrived ten minutes before check in. They zipped me right through, no wait to speak of and was in the machine before check in time and back out before I expected to be in.
I washed the fruit, made food, did lungs, and walked the cats as the breeze was up off the bay which clears the air mostly. It was still full light when we got out there, but the slow Northern sunset started not long after and there were once again A Lot of Dogs, but not Clawdia nemesis. Amoung them there was a dog that looked very much like how Saffy would look if she were canine instead of feline, which amused me, and a very well behaved one that looked like a neighborhood dog from when I was a kid of whom I have fond memories.
I had to keep getting up to rescue Saffy who is very clearly trying to solve the conundrum of "Leash Wrapped around Light Pole." I can see her thinking and doing experiments. She nearly solved it today. I saw her start to solve it, when Claw distracted and she lost the thread of her thought.
I am not mocking Saf here. I have never once see a cat come even close to a solution before. I don't think their brains are good at the problem, which amounts to something attached to the cat in question that they can't feel is getting tangled or caught or wound around something. I think it's too far away from things they'd encounter in nature. Solving it would be cat Nobel Prize in Physics Winning discovery.
She was studying the leash and touching it with her paw, then trying to unwind it, but going the wrong way until just before Claw wandered over. Then she was staring at it intently. She took another poke and had taken one step clockwise, which was the correct direction. So close! Maybe next time or the time after.
About a week ago, Claw discovered a dirt divot where there were bugs, so she likes digging there in hopes and then sitting in the shallow hole. She was doing that and Saffy was watching Gazebo Birds, when some dog kicked up a ruckus near the parking area. We could see what was going on because the bushes are too big. Claw decided maybe it was time to retreat to the patio, but Saffy really wanted to know. I decided it was close enough to go in time so we never did find out what that dog was on about.
In other cat news, Livia's been thinking outside the box a lot lately. I am worried about her health, but the "Samples" look okay so I'm holding off a bit. Crating, car, and vet are massively traumatic for her and stress is a contributing factor to health issues for her and too much stress can cause another major health crisis.
It is not connected to the cleanliness of the boxes. She was doing it a lot after Tavy died, but had stopped for a while when the kittens were new. She started again when the kittens got her sizeish, so I was thinking stress, which I think is contributing, but I had a new thought today, because she added a spot a couple of days ago.
The kittens tend to spraaaaawl on the floor in strategic spots at certain times. They are big and long and they create bottle necks, particularly when they sprawl together, Squirrel and I need to carefully step over like a pair of cranes, desperately trying not to step on the moving floofy tails.
To get past them, she'd need to induce them to move (wildly out of character.) or leap over them (She's a down cat who only jumps as much as she has to. She is middle aged and they take up a lot of space. This is just as unlikely.) She has a box in my bed room, which she is using more, but she likes to use the other boxes more and has preferences about which for various purposes.
I think she gets set on using a particular box then finds the way blocked and ends up protest peeing in a more accessible spot. I don't know it's the case, but it has a logic to it and it explains why it would start when the kittens got too big for her to go around them.
This is worrying, but a lot less scary then Livia's urinary tract developing a potentially fatal condition.
I've been using Tavy's pads. One in the area where the kittens are most likely to miscalculate the location of their butts in relation to the box's edge, and two in the places Livia is most likely to go wrong. I have added a forth pad area in the new spot which is exactly where a middle aged set in her ways cat would be standing when she spotted giant kittens blocking her way to her quick deposit box.
I do not have enough pads at the rate things are going if I don't want to do laundry most days, but I already weeded a bunch of pads Tavy beat up to the point of no longer being reliable.
Yet another thing to add to the list for when there is money again, as the kittens are getting bigger rather than smaller and I don't see them giving up road block time in the near future. Sigh.
They are all being really sweet and cuddly and I love them desperately. At the same time this was not a problem I anticipated.
Thursday the new guy is scheduled to take me to the Ethical grocery. The time will be about when I was out with the cats, after things begin to cool off a bit. *digits cruciform*
* Apparently they found nothing particularly helpful on the CT. I have a specialist appointment next week.
I should have been resting up for the New Guy taking me up to ethical grocery, but I remembered I had library books needing to go back and that I had ordered a case of food from the coop that was meant to be available Thursday, and I wanted to go to cheapie grocery to see if they had cat grass and mushrooms as it was on the way back. They did not have two of the three types of mushrooms I wanted, but the cats loved the fresh grass and I will have portobello mushroom burgers for dinner, likely tomorrow.
It was once again way too hot and the air quality was bad so I mostly had to rest after I got home.
It was so nice having the New Guy to drive me up there and do the carrying things around and putting things away.
In other news, an old lover got in touch with me, one I had been sad to loose touch with after college, so that's been pleasant catching up.
* I wish there were some way to convey to the kittens that the more labour intensive messes they make, the smaller the chances of them getting harness time outside. That if they make more messes while I am cleaning up other messes, we can easily end up in a viscous cycle until everyone is utterly exhausted and the sun is too low. That goes extra on a day when I also have Forage Delivery sorting and the sofa is messed up and needs recovering.
Bonus points for Likely Livia also making an impressive mess, likely while the New Guy was here that I did not spot until bedtime, and did not grasp the extent of until I woke up.
More Bonus points for either Squirrel or the New Guy abandoning water right near all my electronics. (It was definitely not me because I have used that cup in a couple of weeks and it would have required opposable thumbs. Also, I specifically don't put liquids there because it is so easy for a small bump to the table dousing my electronics.)

* "2026 Statewide Primary Calendar:" https://www.270towin.com/2026-state-primary-calendar/
