As a trans person who is not a Christian, I was not a fan and I side eye a bunch of things that happened under his watch as far as cover ups and corruption. That said, he was better than I had any hope of him being and so much better than predecessors in so many ways and on so many issues. He DID represent progress, even though he didn't go as far as one would wish. His anti-authoritarian moves were important.

I am really worried about what comes next.

So many things are getting so much worse. I would love for the catholic Church to keep moving forward, even if not as quickly as I would wish, instead of back sliding into horror.

* Wednesday, on my way out the door to collect Millennials for group errands, I found a bureaucracy packet. Worryingly, it was not the standard bureaucracy packet. O.o It takes the same documents I already had assembled for the late April or early May bureaucracy, which helps, but also suggests a second, more complicated bureaucracy will arrive soon.

I worked on it the whole time Millennials were here, and finished it, except for the one piece I need someone to print off the computer. Last time I circled and labelled the relevant items on the bank statements and it worked out. It would be better to belt and suspenders it, but in any case I hope to drive the packet and documents up there for copying, stamping, and filing.

I like to turn them in as early as I can just generally, but speed is extra important now, given the givens.

Bonus I have all the items ID number marked so when I have to take them back to the same office within the month that will speed things up a bit on my end. *eye roll*

I did not sort the things assorted people dumped on the floor and shoveled back in the wrong place repeatedly last Summer and Autumn, but I need to. I keep a year of documents out in case there is random surprise bureaucracy in the off season (Which really does happen). I just need to go through them now before boxing them for seven year storage, in case something got in there that shouldn't.

So that's a couple hours, but less urgent.

It did eat my whole evening, alas.

* I got polled twice on health care based stuff in 24 hours. The first one was elaborate and very clearly PeaceHealth trying to see if their propaganda effort has managed to make people forget they barred their staff from wearing PPE in February, risking their lives and long term health and then fired and black listed the whistleblower. I made very clear I hadn't forgotten as they had one of those comment section tipe things towards the end. I did distill my objections dow to three soundbite things, which the nice man laboriously wrote down. The other had to do with local COVD response and was both neutral and not very illuminating since the answers allowed did not remotely match my opinions. I made due.

Bonus: I also got two of those Credit card number scam robocalls in 24 hours. Clearly someone got a batch of brand neew autodialer numbers, which means a month or more of interrupted sleep for me as I drop an old number from the list and add a new until I hit homeostsis again. 25 slots isn't close to enough.

* I completely manged to fuck up my shoulder joint somehow by lying down on the sofa. It is annoying being this fragile. It's compromised the functioning of the entire arm. I'll reach for a cup or something and the arm will go briefly limp, much like that thing when my AS is extra bad and everything below the worse spot on my spine loses power. The pain was such that it completely messed up my sleep, what little I could get and even though I brought out the big guns pain medication wise, it hurts like you wouldn't believe.

The cats are very distressed. I keep making scary sounds without warning and I'm moving wrong.

While corporations are getting free handouts that 45's officials get to dole out only to the companies 5 likes, small businesses are getting loans that will likely be very slow to disburse and that they will eventually need to pay back as Republicans are ideologically opposed to the existence of small businesses and are hoping the pandemic will drive as many as possible out of business to accelerate corporate control.

At least we got something? But not nearly enough, and mostly the republicans are using this as a scheme to do basically what they did in response to Bush's recession. Sigh.

There was supposed to be a water heater inspection today, which struck me as a terrible idea, but the law is the law. The inspector called to explain they weren't doing inspections in person any more. Me: Thank God! You have to come into my bedroom to do that and it's not safe for me. There was a long pause, and in a relieved voice he explained I was the first person he called about this who didn't start arguing with him that it was fine. Me: I'm high risk. They've been wearing heavy hospital grade masks and I've been hiding in my room not interacting for safety. him: we're now using an app that... Me: I don't own a cell phone. Him, after a long pause: We're doing contractor affidavits. Me: That won't work, you'd need a notary to... him: Not real affidavits we're just calling them that. I'll talk to .

They ended up sending the city liaison anyway who needed my signature so they could pay the contractors anyway and he did have the right mask and took the completion pics for his program and the inspection pics for the water heater guy. The cats hated this, but he was in and out with signature and pics in a couple of minutes. Not ideal from a safety perspective, but done is better than up in the air, especially if I, city liaison, or papa contractor die in the pandemic, leaving everything in legal limbo. None of us said it, but I know I was thinking it. I want to make sure the A++ contractors get paid even if I don't make it.

I remain mostly well, though my lungs are a little worse. They were doing yard work in the rain today, which is better for my lungs than mowing without rain, but I'm semi fucked without a working air purifier, so it could be that rather than the bacterial infection not being as dead as we hoped. I do not have a fever, and I'm pretty sure it's not Covid, but we'll see.

* You know what would be simpler than the fixes ACA they are planning? Let people and employers buy into medicare, thus solving the escalating premiums, shortage of insurance providers, etc. problems, and adding healthier people to the Medicare pool won't hurt it. We could remove the Bush Era cap on pay in that prevents the wealthy from paying in their share while we are at it.

Of course, Single payer would be dramatically simpler than all these things, but that is like hoping Republicans would suddenly wake up interested in doing what is best for human type people, the economy, the country, the world, etc.. Not happening.
