As a trans person who is not a Christian, I was not a fan and I side eye a bunch of things that happened under his watch as far as cover ups and corruption. That said, he was better than I had any hope of him being and so much better than predecessors in so many ways and on so many issues. He DID represent progress, even though he didn't go as far as one would wish. His anti-authoritarian moves were important.

I am really worried about what comes next.

So many things are getting so much worse. I would love for the catholic Church to keep moving forward, even if not as quickly as I would wish, instead of back sliding into horror.

* Wednesday, on my way out the door to collect Millennials for group errands, I found a bureaucracy packet. Worryingly, it was not the standard bureaucracy packet. O.o It takes the same documents I already had assembled for the late April or early May bureaucracy, which helps, but also suggests a second, more complicated bureaucracy will arrive soon.

I worked on it the whole time Millennials were here, and finished it, except for the one piece I need someone to print off the computer. Last time I circled and labelled the relevant items on the bank statements and it worked out. It would be better to belt and suspenders it, but in any case I hope to drive the packet and documents up there for copying, stamping, and filing.

I like to turn them in as early as I can just generally, but speed is extra important now, given the givens.

Bonus I have all the items ID number marked so when I have to take them back to the same office within the month that will speed things up a bit on my end. *eye roll*

I did not sort the things assorted people dumped on the floor and shoveled back in the wrong place repeatedly last Summer and Autumn, but I need to. I keep a year of documents out in case there is random surprise bureaucracy in the off season (Which really does happen). I just need to go through them now before boxing them for seven year storage, in case something got in there that shouldn't.

So that's a couple hours, but less urgent.

It did eat my whole evening, alas.

* I think I need to say this again because of what is going on in my Tumblr notes. I am against the rape, torture, and murder of civilians, especially children REGARDLESS OF WHO IS DOING IT. Yes, that means Hamas. Yes, that means the IDF/Israeli government. It also means the US Military. It means ANYONE doing it.

I can be against it whoever is doing it.

Opposing Netanyahu for his horrific policies does not mean I hate Jewish people. Being against the things that were done to civilians on October 7 doesn't mean I hate all Palestinians, nor that I support genocide. I am very much against genocide whoever is doing it. I can be against Netanyahu the way I am against Trump, Putin, and Viktor Orbán.

The Israeli government is a government. It is wrong and antisemitic to blame every Jewish person everywhere in the world for things they may not support and didn't have a say in unless they specifically support and/or voted for Likud or one of the right wing parties they coalition with. Jewish people inside and outside of Israel have been and are protesting war crimes the Israeli government has committed. It is possible to have a nuanced understanding of Israeli politics.

It strikes me as pretty weird to claim all Jewish people only have one opinion about everything and to call me antisemitic for opposing one particular politician for doing things that are harmful.

I do, in fact, want all hostages free, both the ones Hamas have and the ones the Israelis have. It sure looks to me and to a lot of people, including some rather vocal families of hostages, that Netanyahu has deliberately and repeatedly stood in the way of this happening for personal political gain and so that he can stay in power and out of jail for corruption he's credibly accused of.

My holding this opinion is very similar to my opinion of Donald Trump. Just saying.

I want Netanyahu out of power because that is the only way there is a chance of anything getting better in that part of West Asia. Which is the goal. I have been in favour of the two state solution since I was old enough to understand, which is longer than a lot of you have been alive, or at least longer than many of you have been old enough to follow the news. I have seen good and bad Israeli and Palestinian leaders come and go. I've seen Netanyahu break agreement after agreement over for decades whenever he's been in power. I don't trust him to make an agreement he will follow any more than I trust Trump to make one, especially when Netanyahu's personal agenda conflicts with that agreement, because that is how he has behaved over and over, including him not holding up his end of the ceasefire just recently.

My side is not that of one government, not even my own. My side is the greater good and the lets not murder children side. It pretty much always has been.

I'd love for the violence to be over. I'd love for everyone's kids to be safe. That's the side I'm on.

The details are scary and blatantly unconstitutional, but I don't trust we still have rule of law.

It is always about the rich, who are already not paying their share getting to illegally pay even less, while people who actually work and pay their taxes get more and more of the social safety net ripped away from them.

I am completely fucked if my check doesn't come. They start assessing late fees for housing after seven days. The Bank fee for this auto-withdraw will likely overdraw my account. No gas, no electricity. My insurance will try to auto-withdraw mid-month causing bank fees to continue to grow exponentially. I am contractually required to have insurance on my apartment. I can't cancel it. I can't drive without gas or car insurance and I am disabled with very limited mobility. A bus pass costs about a months gas an requires lots of walking I can't do or someone else doing a lot of walking pushing my in a chair because my arms are fucked too.

No supplemental food or medical supplies or cleaning stuff or toilet paper or things the cats absolutely need. No credit card or other bill payments.

Not paying any bills for one month would dig me into a hole I could never get out of. With all the staff cuts and closures, how many months would it take to get reinstated? Will I automatically be labelled a fraudster and be denied reinstatement for the crime of being to poor to float all my bills for months?

* Thursday a week ago, I had thought I was likely going to crash again 2AMish as I woke up exhausted, headachy, with all my joints screaming at me, but it got better about 2-3, so I soldiered on and got the aggregate out. Friday, I was well enough to do almost bare minimum physio, which I'm counting as a win.

My hopes of being super productive Friday night failed, alas, but for good reasons. The cats were doing Peaceable Kingdom in my bed, so I read most of Tidal Creatures while administering pettins on demand and cuddle naps for cats. I also had a bunch of small things needing doing I'd been in too much pain to handle around the Cat Asylum, which I spaced out in classic chronic pain fashion in between rests. Also I fell down a medieval history rabbit hole for about an hour. <.< >.>

Tonight was I was also migrating another function across to Killian laptop, and inevitably diving in and out of settings as I found things needing tweaking. This is why it generally takes several weeks to get a lap top going right, and this time having to use waterfox classic instead of standard waterfox meant I had to rethink job distributions, since a bunch of extensions don't work on classic. Limited utility means I need to switch some functions for other browsers. It's mostly sorted now, though I may need more tweaks.

Part of why Thursday worked out so well for me is I'm getting better at the new work flow pattern, so certain things can move a little faster.

So progress, basically, even though it feels like running on sand.

* Thursday this week, I had to stay up for painful x-rays and doctor prodding, as well as to have blood taken. The x-rays were incredibky painful as my hip joint are terrible right now and it's a lot of standing in fixed positions. My shoulder joint healed correctly. I have been released in the wild to do more at home physio. I am to focus particularly on inward motion, which means I will need to get creative. Sigh.

* So about a week and a half ago, a friend sent me NasalCrom to see if it could make a dent in my chronic sinus infection/sinusitis situation. It's really impressive, as it turns out. My sinuses have been slowly draining, which is not pleasant, but neither was several years of sinus headaches and the constant need to manually drain them 1-3 times a day depending on how much worse my allergies to Outside are making things. After they left, I unfortunately left the computer open while I went to do lungs.  When I got back, I discovered the Emperor had done something mind boggling destructive to the aggregate scaffolding formatting, that could only be undone laboriously, by hand.

Luckily, I had taken an impression of the current naked scaffold Right after the Sunday post, so what I'm doing is putting things like the divider lines back in and then posting it without most of the news I have prepped as it will be much simpler to start over with a clean scaffold.

As a result, my plan to spend several hours doing news postings wednesday evening got bumped in favour of dealing with the mess the Emperor made of the Aggregate.

* I was exhausted, but stayed up anyway for phone bureaucracy Monday. It was good I did. I was able to score a cancellation doctor's appointment for a concerning thing that happened with my foot over the weekend. I did in fact need medication and it will be weeks of treatment, but solvable.

While I was waiting to go, I did some other calls and some aggregate stuff. All the people I left messages with actually called back in the course of about an hour in the afternoon, which never happens. I'm used to call backs being an average of three days, but occasionally with a couple weeks as outlier.

Both the appointment and calls were very worth the lack of sleep.

Laundry experiments continue. The human laundry load went without a hitch. I ended up spending Monday evening wearing boxers and a cape as the fifth disability friendly shirt had gone walk about and the rest were in the wash. Tavy had pissed the bed again, possibly as part of his too many things protest and/or upset over me getting ready to go to the Doctor, a thing he is anxious about for the last year. The big bed cover and two sofa pads cleaned up fine. The messier one he complete befouled on the sofa will need to run back through, but we have enough pads that should be viable as long as he doesn't do something outrageous.

I think we can hold out like this for a few months as long as the hot water doesn't start leaking.

The New used laptop is now in Pennsylvania, on it's second attempt. I am still pissed that UPs didn't even attempt to deliver it despite the address being correct. Sigh. I think we've been at this since early January, one way or another. My heart constricts every time the screen on Edward goes randomly black. I worry each time I reboot Klaus that this time he won't wake back up. I am at the batch deleting stuff off Klaus in hopes of getting him to last longer stage as memory shrinks with this kind of hard drive failure. Still, we are hanging on for now.

I read this book in the '90's when there was all the buzz, and I had pretty much this same experience. I tried to like it, but things like the tiger scene made that impossible.

If you live in an open primary state consider voting strategically. Otherwise, vote your heart in the primary. Remember how all those votes for Sanders and Warren pushed Biden and the party platform further left?

Remember to vote in all the races, not just the top of the ticket even if it's in a separate primary (as it is in my state). Who runs congress, your state, and your local government really matters. In some states this is a separate primary. Check the rules for your state.

Never, ever sleep on a chance to vote.

It is always better to vote for someone who will listen to us than to let someone who is actively trying to kill us.

* 5/20/24: It is pretty clear that Tavy pushing my damaged arm behind me and pinning it there is the main issue with the shoulder joint. I keep not being able to manage many reps on the new exercises. Sigh. I hate being this weak and these exercises are the ones meant to be rebuilding the strength to independently raise that arm, but they are too dangerous to force, so i must give way to nature. I am not enjoying the resulting shakes either, but nothing can be done.

I was good and got the replacement vaccine today. It will likely lay me up 2-3 days, the side effect list being as dire as for a COVID vaccine. I will have to go back for a second dose in the back half of July. I could already feel mild effects by the time I got home. Sigh.

It will be worth it though. I absolutely do NOT want shingles and the old vaccine is nearly useless at this point.

* 5/22/24: So not only did the vaccine side effect ramp up on me, but Squirrel brought a cold home from work. It was a really unpleasant night Tuesday. I called in on physio on account of infection which was absolutely the correct call. I was in terrible shape until afternoon, when i passed the 48 hour mark on the shot amnd over the course of an hour I gradully started feeling better. It didn't solve the cold and i went back to the same background ick from the first 24, but this is so much more manageable. (It's not COVID. We checked).

I'm plateaued on the arm anyway. I still can't do the new hard excercise and I go back and forth on how any reps of the upgraded one I can do. Part of this is partially the Emperor's fault for repeatedly edgingg my arm into a stress position behind my back and pinning it there while I'm asleep. The pain eventually wakes me, but the damage is done. The issue is he wants to sleep in the crook of my arm, which is fine wehen I'm niot this attrophied and damaged from surgury. it's not malicious. He's just stressed out and wants cuddle naps.

Bonus: I realized Tuesday night I was so focused on the new excercise and the upgrade I forgot to to the hardest of the old excercise for an entire week. *facepalm* Seriously, giving me another week to get my shit together and not infecting a waiting room of fragile elderly people and physio staff with the ick was the way to go.

I spent the day masked up to help a friend get existential threat level bureaucracy partially sorted. (We managed the hardest, most time consuming part that need fixing before the other things could be fixed).

I feel really good about the work we did and just hope it all works out.

It is 9:58 as of this writing and I've done almost none of the essential things on my own behalf except physio and feeding myself. Yes, I remembered that one excercise. No I didn't even try the new super hard one today as my arm was Done and the pain situation is not great.

* 5/27/24 AM: I thought I was getting better, but I think it was the last of the vaccination side effects passing. Thursday evening the pathogen Squirrel brought home from the hospital escalated on me. Friday evening (too late to call the Doctor) the secondary infections started in, which is a thing that happens to me. The ear infection I fight each evening using old fashioned methods. Every day when I do what currently passes for sleeping, it resurges with no one to fight it every few hours. My lungs are not great and it's possible I've picked up a secondary infection there too, though smart money is on my sinuses sending things there that don't belong. I need to spend a stupid amount of time in bed, too ill to sleep and to tired to read.

Sunday evening, something went terribly wrong with my eyes. I tried cold compresses and my perscription allergy drops. Only temporary relief. Conjunctiveitis? COVID eyes? Some fresh hell?

It is memorial day tomorrow, so I can't even get an emergancy lung clinic appointment until Tuesday if I am extremely luckly, though probably wednesday of Thursday.

We checked multiple times for COVID, but I don't trust the tests to pick up new weird variants, so I can't really trust the negative tests. Squirrel thinks not, though and it's some random brutal respiratory thing they picked up at the hospital. Goth Millenial has come down with it. Luckily, I was able to ward off the other Millenials.

It's bad folks. I don't know what to tell you. we did everything right as far as masking and hand-washing, but his work will always be high risk.

* 5/28/24: So Tuesday Morning I called my pharmacy to ask them to please do my antibiotics up so I could come get them right away, since I'd already missed a dose.

Turns out the hospital lied about calling my two antibiotics in. Because of course they did. So now I am calling around trying to sort ity and the denial of coverages from the surgery and the physio reschedule, so that's super extra fun.

Test results in: It really isn't COVID. It's also noy strep or influenza, and given that my lungs are responding to the anti-biotic, but not my throat, my bet is the lung infection may be a secondary bacterial like the ears and eyes.

This sort oif thing happens when your immune system can't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag.

Update: 5 hours after second dose of the antibiotic and aplication of antibiotic ointment and things are noticeably better. I am still itchy and my hearing is still is fucked up, but I'm barely coughing, my ear and throat barely hurt, and I'm not struggling to read. Progress!

* 5/30/24: I spent all of Tuesday from 8AM to about 4PM doing phone bureaucracy with a break for Doctor/meds/food in the middle. I which people would let me rest, but I now don't owe a surprise 1700+ for the operation that I was not supposed to owe, amoung other things. Being sick is now officially a full time job. Um, thanks?

Tuesday night I had a perfect storm of chronic stuff and contagion stuff ganging up on me, so that was six hours of hell followed by several hours of mitigation when I should have been sleeping. Unfortunately neither chronic illness more surgical recovery go away just because one gets horribly sick. Wednesday I was well enough to ne all the physio except the one that's been too hard. Thursday I actually did all of them for the first time.

I also discovered I wasn't dosing my eyes often enough. In my defense, I was still having trouble reading when I read the directions Tuesday. Sigh. It does explain why my lungs are improving dramatically faster than my eyes. I am still struggling with hearing and sinuses, but am generally so much better. Amoxicillin FTW!
