* Is there anyway to go back to the previous version of Firefox? The new update is significantly more work for me to use as it is hard to use with my disabilities, extremely buggy and prone to freezing my computer every hour or two, loses a bunch of my work on every reboot meaning I have to spend 15 mins to half an hour redoing what it lost out of the 1-2 hour window of usability, and every time I open a new tab and go somewhere the home page stays stacked instead of sensibly disappearing which means I'm going to have to transfer my entire frequently used links set into an email so I can frigging get it to open cleanly. Reverting would be dramatically less use if there were a way to do it.

* Firefox forced me to reboot at 5:30AM because it slowed to a useless fucking crawl. I lost at least a half hour of work. I spent 15 minutes redoing it. It is now 6:18AM. I just rebooted and lost everything I did since I redid all the stuff it lost last time!

* Look, y'all know I despise everything about 45, but I absolutely agree the Debt Ceiling needs to go and have been of that opinion for decades. It's not necessary. Sensible countries don't HAVE one. If Congress appropriates money, Treasury should just be allowed to raise it; if Congress doesn't WANT to spend the money, they shouldn't vote to appropriate it. The Debt Ceiling has always been an unnecessary step, but Republican Congress Critters not bright enough to understand that refusing to pay your credit card bill does not mean you haven't spent the money and only makes things dramatically worse rather quickly has turned it into an endlessly recurring crisis for most of my adult life. Removing the step removes the source of economic instability with no down side.

* The smoke is still an issue today, but less extreme, and the temperature being reasonable really helps. I am still getting that delightful stabbed in the back feeling when I move, and my lungs are not great, but I'm actually functional. I dragged myself out on time for the car appointment. it went so fast my tea didn't have time to cool enough to drink. There is a suspicion a bolt might need replacing. I am to bring it back if the chittering starts again. Bolt replacement will be free if so, because Honest Mechanic is a superstar. I forgot to ask about the engine light, alas. I am still quietly panicking about bills, but I am not convinced I'm well enough to do ebay without error, so I'll likely hold another day at least until I'm struggling less with things like breathing.

* TNG Rewatch, Season 6:

- Relics. The return of Montgomery Scott. This one was incredibly exciting when it was new, and at the same time as heartbreaking as Spock's father's dementia, though the ending is so much more upbeat.

- Schism. Data's infamous cat poem. I know the whole Riker can't sleep/sensor glitch thing is the main plot, but let's face it, Data's struggle with poetry is very relateable and the interesting bit of the episode, until it starts getting creepy round about Worf at the Barber. Side note: How can anyone sleep in that position? No wonder Riker is having trouble even absent the McGuffin. This episode really does an excellent job of creating a spooky atmosphere even with the way the enterprise looks and the holodeck scene is really effective.

- True Q. Environmental commentary is unfortunately completely on point here in the 21st century. Poor young Q. Horrible usual Q.

- Rascals. I have so many questions about how this transportaer accident worked. Why is Picard the oldest child when Guinan is the dramatically older adult, for example? Why did their clothes shrink? Like the people got younger, and smaller is a side effect of that, but why does making clothes younger make them child sized instead of, say reducing them to component parts? Look, this is a fun episode and I really enjoy this sort of character exploration, but I can't help pick at the illogic. How can I not enjoy Mini-Picard? The mini-Guinan/Ro interaction? The flagrant swashbuckling?

I continue to give no fucks about the O'Brien marriage. I also think it's way too early to have serious conversations about long term what to do if she's stuck twelve. Fuck's sake, give it a little time to figure out if it's temp or if it's longer term! Yes, figure out who is sleeping where tonight because otherwise eeeew; yes comfort because what happened is genuinely scary and pull the rug out from under you fuck with your head, but why invite pointless drama over long term results of something that could be fixable soon? Deal with now, now, and save long term planning for when you have a prognosis. Of course, this is why a lot of conventional relationships in media are boring and unpleasant. I am not conflict avoidant in real life, but my RL relationship style is to have serious conversations as needed but not to make drama for the fun of getting angry at each other. It always seemed to me that the O'Brian marriage is about escalating situations that call for calm discussion and negotiation. I just... ugh.

There are so many nice little moments in here, like mini-Picard enjoying his hair, Riker using technobabble as a weapon, and the bed Jumping. Seriously, season six is comparatively well written despite it's flaws. I love how good Guinan is at this and how clever. I love how Picard mini-Picard is. I love them using the appearance of childhood including the undignified Picard tantrum.

* Today was disaster. Real, serious, I don't know what the fuck I'm going to do level disaster. This move has been incredibly rough on me physically, and I'm kind of at the end of my rope anyway on that. (The Wednesday allergen exposure was so bad I have a rash in patches all over my body and my eyes were so bad they woke me up. My meds schedule is disrupted which means the AS is kicking my ass, and apparently all the stress has revved up my auto-immune situation so that there was measurable new damage over the course of Thursday).

Today, though. I am so fucked. We take the first load over and get back in to drive back to the old house for another and the starter doesn't turn over. I correctly assume the battery is drained. A nice lady gives us directions to a cheap battery place and jump. This is an excellent place, cheap, friendly, honest, and full of locals. No frills and everything I want in a mechanic. They basically just do tires and batteries. There is an understandably long long line, but our guy is intelligent, charming and looks like a taller Ty from Almighty Johnsons. I am not panicked at this point. We do not need a new battery, just refurbishing on corroded wires. I give him my toilet paper money for the month, which is cheap for a thing that will fix my car. It turns out we need a new grounding wire, which is not a thing they do there, but he estimated we had about a year to raise the money before it failed, so the day is still going reasonably well, considering. We'd lost a couple hours and my toilet paper, we had plenty of time for moving everything they had packed already.

I try to start the car. It doesn't. He figures out it's a sticky...some word I'd never heard of for a part attached to the starter? Anyway, he showed us where to bang to get the car to start. We drive away.

I get pulled over for speeding leaving Ferndale, which is very much my fault. My instinct is to speed up once we are over the bridge and into the country straight away, so I tend to speed up about half a mile too soon. especially sleep deprived, exhausted, having only had a nasty granola bar too eat as I hadn't time to eat before I left, plus the whole long drive over back roads broken car stress. I am white and I wasn't going that far above the limit, and I do well with polite and contrite when confronted with cops. I know it's a white privilege thing and I feel terrible about this working for me when I know if I were Native or black the whole thing would have been potentially life threatening and at minimum expensive. It's also a class privilege thing, which I also feel shitty about. I am poor and have been my whole life, but I code switch like a champ thanks to my accent and schooling. I feel shitty about taking advantage of something that everyone should have, which is decent treatment by police, but we were looking at this month's car insurance money if I got a ticket, so... polite and contrite and code switched up the class scale and mention being stressed about car trouble and let him let me off.

The car doesn't start. I pop the hood and hobble 'round back and the cop watches me grab the tire ion and hobble it back to the front. I wang the thing. I start the car and close the hood and put the tire iron up front, knowing I'll need it later. I figure i nothing else, this vindicates in his head that my day really was made of shit before he stopped me. This is still not disastrous. I kept my car insurance money. I can live with wanging the car to start it every time.

We get back to the house. I top the car and realise I forgot to roll down the stupid power window. Car won't start. Pop hood, wang the thing, leaving the hood open as we'll need to wang it to leave. Car doesn't start.

Fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuck.

Correctly reasoning that there is a chance that it worked at the mechanic because the super long wait with the hood popped let it cool down (parts expand in the heat. It is a hot day and driving long distances heats a car right up even on a cold one and it might be enough to through something already dicey enough off to bork it), I settled under a tree with my book for an hour or so. I weighed the advantage of going straight home vs stopping halfway for free fluid top off and waiting an hour or so for the car to cool down enough to start. I opted for the fluids. The distance being shorter the wait was shorter, but enough to alarm the fluid jockeys. I assured them it was fine and would start once it had cooled down a bit and that's why I'd stopped for fluids. (There were no warning lights and the temp gauge was low medium). I drove home.

I can't do things like forage or go for meds through stop and go traffic without scheduling in a couple extra hours for reading in allergen laden air with the hood open or every stop. It's not tenable.

I've no real idea what fixing it will cost. I suspect the part won't be too bad, but the part looks well embedded, which I bet means labor cost'll be in the 3-5 hundred range at honest downtown mechanic. I don't know, of course, but say, not paying rent and possibly bills for a month is not option.

Fuck. Fuckity fuck.

Why can't I take the bus? I don't have 50ish dollars a month to throw away and the bus doesn't let out anywhere close to where I need to go, which means every single trip to do anything involves literal miles of painful gimping to and fro, plus I can't buy more than a back pack full of groceries at a time, which means gimping these long distances over and over with weights. There is a special bus for disabled people that actually takes you where you want to go. I've waited close to a decade to hear back about my application, so I'm guessing that's a no and we're still talking a back pack plus whatever I can balance on my head while gimping. (I am not skilled on the level of the people who have to tote giant jugs of water, but If a thing is not too heavy, like a forage box or the water for my plants I put it on my head with a steadying hand in case my balance wavers and I can manage sort distances , which are longer than I can manage one handed without doing it that way.) So I can use the fix route bus at the price of not being able to do anything else that day and the next and possibly the one after (including things like making food and doing dishes) for things like the doctor and library, but not really for things like forage or grocery shopping. I become trapped in my house, as even small simple trips involve enough advanced planning for me to save up spoons for there and back again and to clear everything else until I recover enough to cope...

Fucked.

On the upside, they’ve got someone else with a car to help them next week, so all that was lost as far as getting them moved somewhere safe was a day of hauling.

* I finally finished Blacklist. You have to understand, I am 100% team Mr. Kaplan, and I stopped giving a fart about Red the second he put a bullet in her head. I actually guessed a big chuck of the season arc, though not all the twists, and I had hoped for a different ending. (The Dembe thing was so transparent as to not even count as a twist as I guessed how that would play out the moment I grasped the scenario basics, but I did not guess Wressler's old partner would turn up or the end of season stupidity, so not 100%, but I'd guess maybe 80%? Certainly I guessed who Red was under attack by and the broad outlines of where it would go). I did love the all Mr. Kaplan episode and pretty much all her things worked for me, except the very end which was clumsy. I did like how Samar and Aram resolved. (Earlier seasons it wouldn't have worked for me, but the power balance equalized and it works for me now). I am not sure if the show is worth watching another season without Mr. Kaplan, as I'm not convinced the other characters are enough to make me want to put up with Reddington. He was musing for a few seasons, but it's reached the point where I just want him dead now and Dembe and off with his family away from the creepy codependent life endangering bullshit. I want the team to go off and have careers that don't corrupt them the way this does. I want this show over and done the way I wish someone would put Supernatural out of it's misery. I only barely managed to get through Redemption, despite a lot of talented acting and eye candy. It just didn't gel for me and I'm struggling to remember how they left it.

Liz should have picked her. Task force should have switched. Kate Kaplan could do all Red can do plus more plus she still has resources, plus she’d be able to do it while giving up killing people which long term solves the whole supporting a criminal enterprise, plus why in hell would they want anything to do with a man who’ use Liz as bait? Not forgivable. A friend points out they could have switched up the sides and had Reddington be the villain for a season, which would have been a cool parallel and let them keep a one of a kind character in play while still keeping Reddington’s ratings. It would have let Liz have some basic principles inculcated early her nanny instead of Red being her “real” sperm donor over riding everything, which is better drama and more interesting anyway. “In fact, she could have considered it incumbent upon her //as his daughter// to put a stop to his antics.” Thank you friend for pointing it out.

I just... meh. They had one canonically queer character on the show and unless they find a way to resurrect her twice in two years.... I think I have to be done.

There has never been a character like Kate Kaplan on TV. Seriously, name me one other elderly dangerous principled queer woman mastermind on all of TV? She was the only one anywhere and they FRIDGED her.

* Yesterday's adventure was long and complicated. I got out of the apartment on schedule and while putting the bags in my trunk I spotted a moving box from Sunday's move. Luckily the eye appointment was right where the box's owner now lives, as in dropping it off would be a three block detour. I went and got my eyes poked as planned and dropped the box off after. (She was luckily home, I almost never go up there since I stopped teaching and it's the far end of town). The directions to the place that sells Medicare covered glasses were an adventure. The assistant did sensibly start drawing a map without me asking. (One of my brain little glitches is that I have trouble translating verbal directions into a map. Show me a physical map and I do really well. Give me a landmark and no more than one or two verbal direction strings and I can generally find it, but I just lose long direction strings because I can't map them quickly onto the visual and kinesthetic schema).

Unfortunately she didn't start by drawing in landmarks I knew except the name of one of the big important streets nearby. She's like, "It's right by the Burger King." Me: I've no idea where the Burger King is. Her: Do you know *Town I've lived in since '98* at all? Me: I don't eat fast food, so I don't generally know where they are. Is this near the Walgreens? Her: No. It's right by the Dennys. Me: I'm a vegetarian. I don't eat there either. Her: *makes a horribly exasperated face and draws in Home Depot* It's over here in a Mall like the one we're in. Me: I know where how Depot is. you mean the strip Mall with the good Thai Restaurant? Her: I don't eat Thai Food. *We stare at each other for several looooong moments* Her: *starts trying to sketch in more landmarks she knows* It's my the military recruiting center. Me: *gives a Gallic shrug worthy of my Dad's best French BFF* Her, now desperate: It's by the Pet ER. Me, wildly relieved: Oh! I know exactly where the Emergency Vet is!

So I dropped off the box and I knew exactly how to get to the glasses place, skipping most of the rush hour traffic. I got the stink eye from one of the recruiters who were leaving for the day. (I was in my Harkness coat, PRIDE buttons prominently displayed, and with my crutch). I was amused because the four of them looked like a perfect, diverse recruiting poster, so perfect that they could be clip art. The glasses people were delightful. I had, of course, forgotten that I can't get cheapy lenses because my eyes are so bad they won't fit them, which means I need to raise the $31.00 for the cheapest level of compressed on top of the hundredish I'm short on bills and will have to let ride. It's important to get the glasses before anyone changes my health plan on me, which happens periodically this time of year without my consent, and I've lost glasses coverage that way before.

Then there was stop and go rush hour traffic, a grocery run, and another attempt to track down my birth day present which my sister sent to two apartments ago. They were home, but they'd sent it back to the post office.

When I got up for the bathroom early in the day, Tavy was very agitated and kept going to look out the bedroom window. Snow! So much snow! I don't think we've had real snow here in half a decade what with global warning completely borking regional weather patterns. I thought we might have entirely lost Winter. While snow is aesthetically pleasing and environmentally important, it means I'm housebound until it melts. Given the noticeable melting by the time I got up for real, it likely won't be that long, which is normal for here. (The mountains protect us and the Sound keeps things warmer than they would otherwise be. That time we had two weeks of snow here in our little bay was also freakish. Normal snow here used to be a few days to a week at a time 1-3 times a Winter with cold-freezing rain in between. The snow in the mountains is absolutely crucial though for things like agriculture, so it's good to see some of that trying to rebuild, even though I doubt this year's normalish weather is anything more than a blip. The environment here is changing. Species migrating north as things heat up. It was good to get a normal year though. I missed normal). Anyway, I did not take a picture as the snow had meltd just enough to be less aesthetic.

Today I discovered one of you kind souls paid for the glasses and bills, so thank you.
