Remember to vote in all the races, not just the top of the ticket even if it's in a separate primary. Who runs congress, your state, and your local government really matters. In some states this is a separate primary. Check the rules for your state.

Never, ever sleep on a chance to vote.

* I didn't really recover from the Thursday torture appointment until Sunday, and it took a stupid amount of bedrest to get there. I kept getting the shakes trying to do the exercises Friday and Saturday. One of the things I literally couldn't get my arm in position to start Friday. Saturday, I was able to hook it into place with my other hand and hold it in start position for a 15 count stretch which is as good as it was getting without Beowulf pulling a Grendel on me.

Meanwhile, news has been piling up on Klaus laptap as I struggle to keep my head above water and out of bed long enough for basics.

I did manage to do all eighteen twice (if you count the stretch as doing an exercise), Saturday, but it cost me a lot. Sunday I did manage three sets. I am concerned about how Wednesday physio, but onward we must go because what I take into surgery is the range of motion ceiling on the arm for the rest of my life. Tick Tick Tick sigh.

I asked Goth Millennial to make a cardboard decoy laptop to distract Tavy from his attempts to kill Klaus. Livia was initially terrified of it, so I can't sit it in Klaus' old spot if I want her to feel safe out here. I have set it at right angles instead, which is less alarming for her while she gets used to it. Meanwhile Tavy has started gnawing on it, so at least he has a new project. we'll need more time to see about effectiveness.

The second of the surgery shirts my Aunt funded arrived. It is marked the same size as the more generic one that is a tent, but is actually the exact right fit for me. Not ideal for post surgery, but large enough if someone is there to dress me, and it means I now own four shirts I can wear for medical appointments and such while convalescing. I plan to wander around the apartment just in boxers for a lot of this, because that's far better than having to figure out how to get in and out of shirts everyday.

I love this octopus shirt. It is beautiful and goth and pride flag coded. I was not prepared for the cuteness of the squids up close.

* Wednesday's plans fell through for a bunch of nobody's fault reasons, but at least the annual curtain cleaning got done, along with a bunch of necessary errands and the like. I was exhausted and ended up going to bed for a few hours before the Thursday dose. (It went up again. I'm fine, but it takes a lot out of me). I had planned to get my COVID boosters, but there is a local distribution delay. I am rescheduled for Saturday the 30th, which is far less convenient, but there was nothing to be done. It'll be my first Moderna shot; I've had Pfiser every time previous, but apparently the Pfiser delay is a lot longer if I don't want to cross the mountains and do like an hourish of driving in my ancient car to a crappy little town I've only been to once and don't know my way around.

Waiting is simpler and cheaper as I need to make this half tank last, so I will wait.

no one was letting me sleep Thursday. It was that thing where I was having trouble sleeping because of the pain being so extreme, and when I finally started to drift off, the phone would ring. Rinse and repeat. One of them let me sleep a whole hour, which was exciting. By the time we got to the 5-7th calls, I had reached a state of grimly amused. Then I woke up choking, which hasn't happened for a while and is likely to do with the Thursday shot and me running out of a side effect mitigation med I can't afford to replace until the 1st, by which time there will be no more shots until the new clinic opens.

I can't remember if I wrote about the two doctors getting a new office in the new clinic that opens in October, but they aren't scheduling yet. Let's hope the gap isn't so big I have to start over.

I did finally get a little REM sleep, but not much. Then I completely borked the bad shoulder trying to do physio. The arm didn't want to and it's bad enough I had to break out emergency meds and use the sling. Grr.

* I am still struggling with the Asshole agency. I was awakened Sunday morning by a cleaner checking in on her way to my place. Fuckssake! I do not understand why it's so hard to grasp only send cleaners every Friday morning unless I say other wise. They tried to send a morning and afternoon cleaner last Tuesday. Every day i have the same conversation about me only wanting weekly care Friday mornings. Every day they cancel the next day's cleaner, but not the day after. I only get so many hours a year and we are saving the extras for Autumn when millennials are busy with Gothmas season and the like.

I did not cancel the morning cleaner Sunday, because she'd already been booked and if I cancel that's money she loses. It was hours of sleep I needed, but oh well. Asshole agency. I did have about two hours of work for her, but I've no idea what happens if the telephone operator lady didn't sort it and a surprise cleaner comes Monday, as the stuff that's left is either complicated or not in the cleaner's remit. She said she'd switched me from daily back to weekly. *Fingers crossed*

This cleaner was very quiet. Tavy liked her. She was so quiet, Livia thought she'd gone and wandered into my bathroom to use her personal litter box and there she was: cleaning! Livia: The horror! The horror! Quiet was good. it meant I could do some tumblr programming with only occasional interruption for directions.

Winds from the tropical storm in Mexico and California are sending air currents along the coast that bring us smoke from the fires between us and there. Air quality was bad all weekend as a result. Instead of swimming we gathered in my place and goth Millennial made their excellent lasagna.

* I only got threeish hours of sleep for Monday, and spent all day out in heat and allergens or a waiting room. It was very worth it, given the results, but I am burnt and there is no real rest until Thursday.

I lost two hours of sleep to that thing where I wake up coughing and can't stop, plus pain and sensory stuff making it hard to get back to sleep once my body calmed the fuck down, plus a very long and distressing phone call from the doctor's office.

so I lost my incredibly cool superstar doctor in... was it February? The replacement turned out to be cool and we were going to do an appointment on a different topic every month until he caught up because my medical file is war and peace plus Moby Dick plus the whole of the Wheel of Time saga and takes ages to get a real handle on, and I very much need a Doctor who takes things like my lungs and joints seriously.

I liked him. He was charming and cheerful and well vouched for, but he's an older gentleman, and my may appointment got rescheduled as did the June appointment, and I got worried he might be having health issues. I don't know if the whatever I was led to him retiring or if something way more serious happened, but he's done and I'm to start from scratch with a new Doctor and no clue what if any prep they got before taking over the degenerative disease library that is me.

I hope he’s okay, wherever he is.

I am less worried about the trans stuff than i would normally be. Me and another trans person pioneered trans treatment at this clinic, and because the nearest trans services were down in Seattle back then, not counting the transphobe endocrinologist who rarely took new patients, they got a massive influx of trans people once we spread word of mouth that they would take us. back then it was really basic and we had to educate them, but once they realized how desperately they were needed, a second and better doctor started taking trans patients there, and then they started doing periodic how can we improve services and do serious training, and taking people on who were interested in learning.

They literally changed the clinic name because a lot of queer folk in poverty were afraid to go there. People who aren't comfortable with trans bodies, preferred names, and neo-pronouns don't work there and we are all incredibly lucky to have this clinic. I've been the first trans patient in a lot of specialist and surgical practices It is always a little nerve wracking and I had to do a lot of 101 for doctors and nurses over the years. I am pretty sure I am safe here.

It's the whole 'will they think I'm a hypochondriac or a drug seeker' thing that plagues all chronic illness/chronic pain patients that makes me wary.

* ...And no call and no cleaner Tuesday. I had to be up anyway for the medical social worker, but I'm becoming rather miffed.

* Management banned all flags in the complex this year to stop me putting pride flags in my windows. Our plan is to hang them inside the regulation white curtains instead of outside them and see if they send us a written notice to take them down. The white curtains are thin, but it's not clear how visible they will be at different times of day and night. They are up. The progress flagg is somewhat visible when backlit with the light still out. I'm not convinced the chevron Queer Flag will be. When I loop the curtain and not the flag, more of the flag is easily seen than not.

We thought of some other loopholes. I have a compliant white and blue chair on the porch. Head Millenial will be painting pink stripes hopefully next week if we can get the stuff that makes paint stick to fabric. The stripes won't be the right order, but we can at least have the colour.

We went to the Dollar store Wednesday in search of rainbow pinwheels, but all they had were red/white/blue. Sigh. A friend bought a big flower pinwheel with the correct number of petals and has undertaken to paint it pride flag colours.

We also plan to report every US flag we see when it gets close to July 4th as the wording bans those too. If you ban flags, you better not only enforce on minorities.

So here's the thing. We are all really poor, but we are also angry. If you have good cheap suggestions for how to make pride stuff without actual flags, please, please write in. Most of the Millennials are good at DIY and we are all very much in the mood for malicious compliance.

* As of Friday, the cleaners haven't turned up the last five times they've been scheduled. I spent an hour on the phone with they Asshole Agency, mostly on hold, getting cut off "accidentally" before the operator got an answer from management. The second lady double checked my phone number so she could call back if we got cut off. This too was a lie. Remember, every time they cut me off, I have to start over, waiting on hold for an operator, explaining from scratch, them trying to reach a supervisor.

Am I being blackballed? Inquiring minds want to know.

In any case I have to wait up for the imaginary cleaner, then call the Asshole Agency to ask if the cleaner has cancelled, because once again they didn’t bother to call, which means i lose nearly as much sleep only no dishes are washed.

* I had a fascinating poll Saturday. My best guess is it was Republican funded for the August primary by the party rather than a particular candidate. From the questions, they were clearly trying to figure out how much sway Drumpf still has, and what part of him still appeals if any. This being a blue state, where they are running against a Democratic Incumbent, there are four republicans representing a wide range. (We have two non-November elections: the smaller one I voted in months ago, and the August one. They are open Primaries and the too two go on the November ballot. It's all mail in and not a hassle). They had a whole section that seemed to be gauging the popularity of pro-Russian invasion extremist candidates vs. more moderate ones.

It was the most interesting poll I've taken in years and was worth Tavy and I being startled awake for.

* Tuesday was wild an exhausting. I got about two hours sleep. It was worth it though because they did the covered by Medicare stop gap filling replacement. This does not solve the I still need an expensive out of pocket root canal issue, but it buys a little time, and also lets me chew more things. Like a lot of things I still can't eat at all and others I have to chew carefully with only the other side of my mouth, but it means every meal isn't a game of pain roulette in which I am always the loser with a bonus chance of permanent damage that could eventually kill the tooth. Seriously, this is a win.

My social worker is calling around to see if there is a specialist who takes Medicare within the range of travel my car can handle, which just manages to include another town big enough for a decent hospital and similar amenities. I do not like risking taking it so far, as there is always a risk that it will be one trip too many for the elderly beast, but I also need that tooth.

I am not sanguine she will succeed in her mission. Still no word back from the local specialists about cost, sliding scale, and payment plans. It is likely going to be significantly more expensive than the oven if sliding scale isn't an option.

In other Tuesday news, I am healed enough from the surgery to safely bathe. I can not express how happy I am to be truly properly clean. It's another three weeks before I can restart physio or lift things much heavier than the tiny terror, but not having a dangerous infection and being able to do hydrotherapy for the pain is a big quality of life improvement.

Last Friday, the management sent a packet with revised complex rules, some of which were clearly aimed specifically at me. Sigh. The most prominent of these was a total flag ban. If they are willing to ban American Flags for Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, and July 4th, they can pretend they aren't singling me out for my Pride Flags. I hadn't hung them this year because of all the medical stuff. I was barely managing oatmeal making by the beginning of June. I think I will wait 'til next year to play Pride Flag chicken with Management, since I'm still not managing or barely managing a lot of basic things.

I am determined to test their resolve next year though, and I plan to take a flag spotting tour around the complex at the beginning of July this year with Head Millennial to take pictures.

Wednesday, we did the usual Wednesday errands, plus went to the... Okay, it's like a farmer's market, except it's a store without walls and some of it open air run by hippies that sells mostly local produce from small farmers, plus some stuff from small farms further south that don't grow up here and the like. Anyway, they sell a lot of plants and plant starts in their open air section. Also I rechecked the Co-op garden section in hopes of finding the three plants I haven't seen yet this summer that I like.

Because of the new rules, Head Millennial needed to take down some things he put up to make Gothmas season lighting easier to install that are now outlawed. He also needed to plant some starts we bought, and the thing about container gardening is, you move stuff around a lot depending on which things need more or less light and moisture, which things are in producing right now, etc.. I can't lift the planters without risking another trip to the surgeon, so he has to be the one doing it. Since he was moving stuff anyway.... The patio looks great. I did not get as much weeding done as I hoped, but that is clearly another day's problem.

According to my Social Worker 70-80% of the people in my small city who are cleared for an aid don't have one or don't have all their hours covered. I knew there is a serious world wide aid shortage, but wow! I'd probably feel guiltier, but I literally have no idea how I'd have managed the last couple weeks before surgery plus the week after at all without him. I'd likely have been subsisting on crackers, for example. Also, the reason my hours were immediately filled was because I hired out of my friend group. He wouldn't be working as an aid if I hadn't offered him a job, and he very much likes working here. He is thinking about maybe signing up for another client in addition, but I'm not stealing an existing aid from someone who otherwise wouldn't have one.

If you are reasonably able bodied and need a job, I'm willing to bet wherever you live there is a shortage too. Just saying. Some of these jobs are harder than others, but given how tight the labour market is, you can likely set firm conditions about commute distance, hours, and what level of care you are able to give. (Care giving jobs have a really wide range as far as how demanding they are physically.) Just make sure you stand firm on limits and boundaries. Don't get talked into an hour each way bus commute, for example.

Anyway, we are still playing catch up on all the things that didn't get done when I was so ill, because a whole bunch of extra things got added and I was able to do so little for myself, but the progress is visible.

* I apparently need a root canal if I want to save a middle molar I need for chewing on the more functional side of my mouth so that has to go ahead of the oven fundraising wise. I've no idea how much that will cost until the specialists can get back to me. We are still trying to save for a working oven, but it's less important than being able to chew. I don't know how much I actually need there as the price fluctuates. we were $5-600 short when it was on sale. I am disabled and medically fragile. Not having a working oven is messing with my nutrition, but again being able to use that side of my mouth is worse:

I was excited at the idea of a show that started with the reign of Edward VI, because most Elizabeth centric things start with the reign of her half sister Mary, and there is a lot of really interesting stuff in that bit of history that could make a cool show in the right hands. At the same time, I was wary because there are so many ways to really screw up an Elizabeth narrative and I get shirty the way I do about things like the movie Troy, and Braveheart. Like really, I have rants.

I was particularly wary, because a narrative starting here requires the writers to make some difficult decisions as to how they handle Thomas Seymour's behavior to Elizabeth. There are things we are fairly certain of and things we simply can't know for sure.
