At one point I gave a little cough as I was doing the thing where I slowly lower chest elevation in preparation for sleep. She started apologizing like I'd yelled. I felt terrible and told her she needn't apologize and it was just a cough. I reiterated that I new how slammed they must be and how difficult it all is. It really made me wonder how rough other callers were being with people who's livelihoods were threatened through no fault of their own, that she be so alarmed by a cough.

By the time I was thanking her for her public service and wishing her the best of luck at the end of the call there were a tiny bit of life in her voice.

It was a small thing, a tiny drop of the bucket, done in the same spirit that leads me to apologize to a customer service worker when the person ahead of me has been a dick because someone owes them a damned apology, and then crank up my politeness to eleven. Nobody deserves to be treated like that by a single asshole customer, let alone by their own government. I can't really fix that, but I can least do my best to convey that I see the other person as a human being and think they deserve better.

The treatment of government workers in this country makes me furious.

All I can do is signal boost and hope people keep fighting for them and for all of us.

* Tuesday I had one of my periodic mega torso muscle spasm things, which ate a couple hour until I could get it under control. Luckily is was after I ran a couple essential, time sensitive errands.

Wednesday I was still aftershocky, but at the minor inconvenience level. I did errands by myself as two Millennials were making their homemade lasagna on the grand scale. The lasagna was magical.

In other news, My Social Security didn't arrive. On two previous occasions when Republicans were dicking around with Social Security, it came a day or two late, but under the current circumstances it is extra concerning. Have I been declared dead? Deleted from the roles by a teenager who decided I was disabled enough? Or are payments just delayed by assholery, but not gone, gone? I actually have some hope it's just delay as I checked in with a friend on SSI who did get theirs.

Still, there is no way to fix it until my in person appointment and that will be too late for Housing auto-withdraw.

Let's all cross our fingers, shall we?

* My sleep schedule is still messed up, but luckily the meds disruption was only one day. (On time is ideal, but I don't have to be the kind of strict a lot of people do. Approximate works okay with most of my stuff. That said, three hours off on an anti-nausea medication is a special kind of unpleasant.)

Saturday, we did errands in the morning, because I'm not the only one dramatically sleep disrupted. They are no longer shopping like a hurricane is coming, but the drivers are dangerous and there is a different kind of panicky going on at the grocery store, which is hard to categorize. We were at the big ethical grocery (The Employee owned one), and I noticed they had way more people on shift than is usual for even the first weekend of the month, which suggests they've adjusted to the panic buying and anticipated both in ordering staple foods and staffing how people were going to react to Trump crashing the economy this week.

I still need to hit two more stores this week for things about to be in short supply that are important and necessary. I am exhausted.

We did do a little errand each for me and Goth Millennial for which the other stayed in the car because we were exhausted. We were supposed to go downtown, but had very little left and both had groceries to put away. (Goth Millennial is being jerked around again and hasn't been paid in almost a month for aid work. Things are getting pretty gnarly here at the Cat Asylum, but nothing can be done just yet as we have to wait on things out of our hands. *gestures at Trump and Musk setting the government on fire*).

There was a big demo with thousands of people downtown proper near the courthouse/city hall, but we weren't up to it. There has been a regular Friday demonstration more central downtown for decades. We get a lot of other demonstrations on different days generally as well. This is a very left wing town. It's a small city, but we do love to demonstrate.

We did pass a small, separate demonstration on the was home, but they had hands off signs, so I waved and beeped.

I am double booked Tuesday for two time sensitive things that protect my benefits. (I tried to get wait listed. I tried to move the theoretically more moveable one. It is impossible, which doesn't surprise me. *gestures to the government being on fire* The appointments are 40 minutes apart on check in and about fifteen minutes apart for space. I am terrified I won't make it. My plan is to try to go very early for appointment one in hopes somebody cancels. I have already gathered the paperwork.

I am FUCKED if I miss either.

Then I get inspected on the 11th, a thing I am in no way prepared for, and can't get anyone to help with. *See Goth Millennial being not paid.* I have tried calling around for other help. No joy.

This is on purpose. Republicans have been trying to destroy public schools longer than I've been alive as the last thing they want is quality education for people who aren't white and also wealthy.

Why is this important? The Social Security Administration has a notoriously difficult website to use. It requires a special log in thing that most people do not have. (Including me.) Sometimes they will issue you one and not tell you what it is if you get it at an SSA office. They don't, say email it to you, which would be useless in any case for people who don't have internet access or have disabilities that make using the Internet extra hard, and for people who often are older than the internet and have little to no appropriate skills, or are home bound and can't get to library, or have had their local library cut and also just had the SSA office near them closed, or.... You get the idea.

Approximately 80% of people on Social security or applying for benefits use the phone service, because it actually works if you are patient, unlike the glitchy and difficult to access web site.

This cut is really about denying people who paid into the system getting access to the benefits they paid for.

It also really fucks up seniors and people with disabilities who need things like Medicaid and EBT on top of their Medicare as those programs often require a proof of income letter once or twice a year that must be issued within 1-3 months of turning in your paperwork. (Exactly details are state by state. My state is once a year up to three months. My state is super lenient because it's been unified Democratic rule for decades and it works at keeping citizens alive instead of trying to kill them off). So do a bunch of other programs for seniors and people with disabilities. I have to interact with this phone system 2-4 times a year, depending on which of my services need re-upping.

The knock on effects of the planned cuts would have been huge!

* I am making progress on spinning up Killian Laptop. I downloaded a bunch of smaller programs, I finally convinced some browsers to sync. I've added some more accessibility extensions, and Saturday, I got a couple browsers set up with things so I could run some of the standard things I do everyday of him.

He's pretty fast compared to Klaus. The main problem I'm having is I can't get Waterfox to run on him. Our theory is maybe he's too old for modern iterations. I am trying earlier versions one by one, but I may be stuck with classic Waterfox, which is not supported and can't sync, so I keep having to stop to hand customize. I'll keep at it this week when I'm not in the aggregate crunch.

Livia also reached the end of her patience with a Thing the Emperor has been doing. The Empress is a peaceable animal by nature as long as you aren't live prey. She is more than twice his size, but she will generally give way as it's less hassle unless he pushes her too far.

Sunday, she decided she had had enough. For the last month or two, he's been peeing on everybody's favorite spot on my bed 5-6 times a week. I am a person with a clothes washer on it's last legs that can only use hot water. I can't wash multiple cat pads every night and he's also taken to running it to pee on the bed while I am getting ready for bed, so if he does it earlier, the cats are SOL for napping in the Best spot until I do the bed time laundry. Traditionally, he then gets really angry at the humans because Someone has Peed in the best spot!!!

This is Livia's favorite spot too. In fact, she sleeps there more than he does in winter as he decamps for his heated bed for most of his Night Napping.

Tavy's refusal to pee in the box has been inconveniencing her all this time. Sure, she has her second favorite spot: the bedroom window podium, which I tricked out for her in her youth, but a lot of cold seeps in on winter nights and though she is cold adapted, she would rather be a bit further from the window in the comfy spot in the elbow of the Pillow Mountain Range. She has a number of other popular spots, including the desk box, top of pillow mountain, and three other on bed locations. (She used to love sleeping on the sofa, but that is also covered in pee pads and Tavy pee by that time of night. In warmer weather there is also Living room Window box, but the emperor peed in the spare boxes, so I'm not bothering with a new one until the weather is good for window naps.)

Before you ask, yes, we tried keeping the boxes clean. He pees in the boxes to mark them after a change, then goes right back to the sofa if no one is sitting on it, and sometimes when they are. I'd have to scoop each box myself after every use, a thing I can't do with my lungs and arthritis. I miss when he used to pee in the tub or the sink. I could just run a little water after each use, but he doesn't anymore.

Anyway, Sunday night, Livia was camped in the Best Bed Spot and was Not Moving, because if she did, he'd just pee on it after a token sit to establish dominance. he tried all of the passive aggressive tactics. Which she ignored, and when he got physical, she yelled at him and wapped him a good one. He knows he can't win a physical fight, so he is asleep in his desk bed as of this writing and she is enjoying the Best Bed Spot in peace for the first time since he started the regular bed wetting.

Good on her.

* So the tooth thing is a whole saga again. I went and got the root canal. After they were like, "We're putting in a temporary filling until you can get a crown." Me: When can I schedule the crown for? Them: We don't do that here and neither does your dentist. You can't chew anything until you get the crown as it's fragile and will crumble and we'll have to do another root canal. Good luck! Bye! Me: WTF!?!

Both my dentist and the Endodontist knew I had neither a previous crown or root canal, but I was supposed to have guessed two months ago that I would need a crown and that I needed to start searching for a new dentist that both did crowns and took Medicare right then, since there are basically no dentists taking new patients in my area and the wait lists are full since everything is scheduled out four months. I don't understand why they didn't tell me this when they told me I needed a root canal? I'd heard of crowns, had zero idea what one is or what it's for. I'm still not clear on what a root canal is. (I asked assorted different dental personal what a root canal is, including both dentists. I asked every time they asked if I had questions. None of the answers made sense and i think I would have done better if they'd used, say a picture of a tooth and pointed at things, but that's not how it works, apparently? Instead they say a few vague and confusing things that convey no information so there was nothing for it.) How was I supposed to guess that I needed to ask questions about crowns under that circumstance? Wouldn't it have been logical for them to say "You need both a root canal and a crown. You will need to find an endodonist and a new dentist, here are two lists of practices that do those things" rather than wait for someone who has said repeatedly they don't know anything about root canals to know what questions to ask?

So I'm basically fucked. I literally an not allowed to chew. I keep hurting myself moving my teeth wrong. There was a speck of grit in my mouth this evening (Wednesday) which may be the start of the temp filling crumbling. I have called all the dentists on the tiny list I wheedled them into giving me of dentists they work with, one of which doesn't exist apparently. The one who answered their phone says I should call back in a couple of months to see if there is room on their wait list then as they are scheduled four months out right now and they don't know any other practices taking new patients.

Everyday I call the answwering machines of dentists fruitlessly, leaving messages with zero hope that anyone will take me even if they do have slots as I know full well most dentists reject medicare out of hand even though it pays cash and is easier to get advance clearance for these things because of reasons unclear to me. My Social worker is on vacation. I hope to enlist her help when she gets back as she's a bulldog and can argue the medicare billing which I don't know how to do, but really, I'm fucked.

I have x-rays. I have excellent records. I literally had a cleaning in the last month. I just want the frigging crown, not all the new patient exam and x-ray stuff. I can't chew until we do this. I don't see how I can go the projected four to six months without crumbling the temp.

All the dentists knew this would be the case. Seriously, why the fuck did not one of them tell me to start looking for a dentist that does crowns two months ago? I don't understand why that deliberately kept this information from me knowing that getting a crown in less than four to six months would require a time machine or a miracle and that I needed a crown ideally within a week of the root canal? Am I missing something here?

* Wednesday we were meant to swim, but there was a COVID exposure in our friend group, and Head Millennial and I decided to just do errands instead. Several hours after I took Head Millennial home, my body through one of the grand tantrums where a bunch of things go wrong at once. I ended up puttering around for a while, but giving up and going to bed without accomplishing much.

Thursday I felt terrible to an extent where I am now playing the sick or recovering from a body tantrum game. The joys of chronic illness. I had wanted to post the Tuesday election results Wednesday noight. I simply was impossible. I'm sorry.

* Friday: I am 90% sure I figured out what's going on with my body and that it's a perfect storm of things that periodically go wrong going on at once, plus tooth rfelated disruptions meaning I keep ending up swalowing things that weren't really chewed and the whole mostly only eating once a day because I'm simply not well enough to make whole meals multiple times a day at this trather high pain level.

Normally, I'd do a real, dinner equivalent meal once I make it out of my room, as that's when my spoons and pain rtesistance are best case for the evening. I have dried fruit and nuts, and if I'm really hungry maybe a granola type bar as a mid-awake cycle snack, and then something easy and fairly light towards the end of the awake cycle for optimum coverage on my AS meds while I sleep. There is literally nothing on the snack list I can have mid wake cycle so it gets skipped. If I skip the smaller, later meal, I don't get the second AS meds dose. Without the mid-cycle snack, I'm often too tired and queasy to make and eat Last Meal. Missing the second dose fucks with my sleep and builds the general overall pain level higher which makes it even less likely I can manage Last Meal.... you see the problem. Yoghurt is crazy expensive. I should probably try to buy some this weekend anyway.

Adding to the whole pain situation I had Spasms, Wednesday after I took head Millenial home, which makes the pain situation worse and I had to take a PRN that interacts with something else to add muscle aches. That effect is mostly worn off, but it likely contributed to the pain snowballing effect. Then there's the sinus headache from allergen exposure outside Wednesday. Headaches make queasiness. The muscular part of my chronic pain (TMj,extreme spasms) also can cause queasiness. My inability to chew food contributes to queasiness.... You see where this is going. Oh, and I was taking the wrong dose of something by accident for over a month which can cause queasiness. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

So I think I'm not sick, just in a perfect storm of chronic illness and tooth nonsense.

There is light at the end of the tunnel on the oven at least. I want to thank everyone who's contributed so far. We are at a point where, say not paying most of our electric bill could solve it, for example, if we are lucky and the price hasn't gone up in a monthish.

* Fundraising Friday and Saturday went swimmingly. As of this writing, I am waiting for money to move into my bank account so I can buy the oven.

Short version? I got my first Pfizer shot. Second is already scheduled. If you X out the chronic stuff, the actual side effects were mild, it's just adding extra to a pile of Jesus Fuck I've been dealing with a weekish. Second dose will likely suck a lot more, judging from Squirrel and lots of vaccine related news coverage, but it is nothing next to getting covid, and I would gladly take Vaccine side effects rather than the AS and CF stuff I deal with every day. Trust me.

So get the damned shot, whatever shot when they offer it. (The ones that aren't working so well as not in the US. Seriously, just get the shot when your number comes up. I'd have taken whatever they gave me).

And don't be That Lady. Be nice to your provider because they are working their asses off to try to save your life.

* Update: Despite having no fever, I had the sort of dreams I normally have with a high fever. Just before bed, I'd developed a headache. It was dramatically worse between 4 and 7PM of the second day. My lungs had a really rough hour starting around four thirty, but they are almost back to where there were before yesterday morning's shot as of 9:30PM Tuesday. The muscle aches are almost over. Right now I'm dealing with chronic stuff plus general ick and the remains of the headache. Still totally worth it. It isn't even a question.
