Why is this important? The Social Security Administration has a notoriously difficult website to use. It requires a special log in thing that most people do not have. (Including me.) Sometimes they will issue you one and not tell you what it is if you get it at an SSA office. They don't, say email it to you, which would be useless in any case for people who don't have internet access or have disabilities that make using the Internet extra hard, and for people who often are older than the internet and have little to no appropriate skills, or are home bound and can't get to library, or have had their local library cut and also just had the SSA office near them closed, or.... You get the idea.

Approximately 80% of people on Social security or applying for benefits use the phone service, because it actually works if you are patient, unlike the glitchy and difficult to access web site.

This cut is really about denying people who paid into the system getting access to the benefits they paid for.

It also really fucks up seniors and people with disabilities who need things like Medicaid and EBT on top of their Medicare as those programs often require a proof of income letter once or twice a year that must be issued within 1-3 months of turning in your paperwork. (Exactly details are state by state. My state is once a year up to three months. My state is super lenient because it's been unified Democratic rule for decades and it works at keeping citizens alive instead of trying to kill them off). So do a bunch of other programs for seniors and people with disabilities. I have to interact with this phone system 2-4 times a year, depending on which of my services need re-upping.

The knock on effects of the planned cuts would have been huge!

* I am making progress on spinning up Killian Laptop. I downloaded a bunch of smaller programs, I finally convinced some browsers to sync. I've added some more accessibility extensions, and Saturday, I got a couple browsers set up with things so I could run some of the standard things I do everyday of him.

He's pretty fast compared to Klaus. The main problem I'm having is I can't get Waterfox to run on him. Our theory is maybe he's too old for modern iterations. I am trying earlier versions one by one, but I may be stuck with classic Waterfox, which is not supported and can't sync, so I keep having to stop to hand customize. I'll keep at it this week when I'm not in the aggregate crunch.

Livia also reached the end of her patience with a Thing the Emperor has been doing. The Empress is a peaceable animal by nature as long as you aren't live prey. She is more than twice his size, but she will generally give way as it's less hassle unless he pushes her too far.

Sunday, she decided she had had enough. For the last month or two, he's been peeing on everybody's favorite spot on my bed 5-6 times a week. I am a person with a clothes washer on it's last legs that can only use hot water. I can't wash multiple cat pads every night and he's also taken to running it to pee on the bed while I am getting ready for bed, so if he does it earlier, the cats are SOL for napping in the Best spot until I do the bed time laundry. Traditionally, he then gets really angry at the humans because Someone has Peed in the best spot!!!

This is Livia's favorite spot too. In fact, she sleeps there more than he does in winter as he decamps for his heated bed for most of his Night Napping.

Tavy's refusal to pee in the box has been inconveniencing her all this time. Sure, she has her second favorite spot: the bedroom window podium, which I tricked out for her in her youth, but a lot of cold seeps in on winter nights and though she is cold adapted, she would rather be a bit further from the window in the comfy spot in the elbow of the Pillow Mountain Range. She has a number of other popular spots, including the desk box, top of pillow mountain, and three other on bed locations. (She used to love sleeping on the sofa, but that is also covered in pee pads and Tavy pee by that time of night. In warmer weather there is also Living room Window box, but the emperor peed in the spare boxes, so I'm not bothering with a new one until the weather is good for window naps.)

Before you ask, yes, we tried keeping the boxes clean. He pees in the boxes to mark them after a change, then goes right back to the sofa if no one is sitting on it, and sometimes when they are. I'd have to scoop each box myself after every use, a thing I can't do with my lungs and arthritis. I miss when he used to pee in the tub or the sink. I could just run a little water after each use, but he doesn't anymore.

Anyway, Sunday night, Livia was camped in the Best Bed Spot and was Not Moving, because if she did, he'd just pee on it after a token sit to establish dominance. he tried all of the passive aggressive tactics. Which she ignored, and when he got physical, she yelled at him and wapped him a good one. He knows he can't win a physical fight, so he is asleep in his desk bed as of this writing and she is enjoying the Best Bed Spot in peace for the first time since he started the regular bed wetting.

Good on her.

* It's been an incredibly rough week. My arm is just terrible to the point where at Wednesday physio, he tried to start me on a new exercise after warm up, looked at what my arm was doing and his face fell. He scrapped the day's plans and we spent the rest of the session with him slowly, gently stretching my arm. So we're pulling back on expectations this week.

The dramatic barometer changes and extreme pollen situation are noticeably messing me up on a variety of levels. I get sicker when I leave my room with it's heavy filtration and outside is even worse. Standing and walking is a nightmare. I've gotten trapped on the ground three times in the last week unable to rise and there are so many problems I could solve if I could just lift things and move them instead of having to work around the blockages.

Then there is all the extra kitchen drama. It's really hard to make anything in there with the ongoing refrigerator situation and everything we have is going to deal with that both physically and financially.

It's just too many things right now on top of all the bureaucratic nightmare going on with the Millennials.

* Friday there was no real sleep. After I got back from helping with bureaucracy inflicted on Millennials. I kept having to get up to deal with things and answer phones. I am bad at sleeping in my clothes at the best of times and the bedroom air conditioner is not what it was. I am worse at getting back to sleep after being awakened over and over. Sigh. It took an hour to move enough things around in the kitchen to make a meal I could only half eat and I STILL had to attempt physio which is at a terrible and disappointing place. I don't really have spoons for the physio; all the extra spoons needed for just trying to eat and hydrate aren't helping at all.

5 years of intensive partizan investigation and all they found were two minor tax misdemeanors that he already paid back, a fraction of what Roger stone owes and refuses to pay, and an addict in possession of a gun charge that they usually only pursue when there is other more serious crime involvement, that they are very likely only pursuing because he's the relative of a public figure.

Republicans are lying that this is a sweet heart deal. It's slightly more harsh than the average citizen. Meanwhile they are lying that Drumpf is somehow being persecuted unfairly for being investigated for a bunch of geometrically worse crimes related to various attempts to overthrow the US government where he either was caught on tape of publicly admitted them or where there is a mountain of evidence and where he doesn't get hand cuffed or mug shots or have to spend time in jail pending arraignment, and where the FBI and DOJ foot dragged and refused to even consider investigating for over a year, because those institutions don't believe that there should be equal treatment under the law for Drumpf. The Republicans agree with him that he should be allowed to shoot people in broad daylight with no consequences so even the most deferential treatment and mild consequences are unfair.

Yes, Hunter Biden made some bad decisions, mostly around his addiction, but this is penny ante stuff. He didn't kill anybody, or take bribes while in public office, or steal classified documents to compromise national security, or repeatedly try to overthrow the government. The disparity in the way Drumf is being treated vs any normal person doing similar things is massive, but Republicans are pretending that the scandal is that Hunter Biden is only getting slightly harsher than average treatment for the minor stuff he did and not being changed with the imaginary crimes they want him to have committed, and not Drumpf getting all these extra privileges.

* My garden makes me happy, tiny as it is. I love the way it smells of basil and tomato leaves and rosemary and spearmint. I love the lushness of it compared to the sterile looking landscaping management insists on. It feels like the glorious chaos of nature fighting back every time seeds blow out of my container garden and sprout amongst the deliberately barren patches beyond my porch border. I love being surrounded by green and all those vegetable plant flowers.

This is already shaping up to be the best year ever for my tiny strawberry patch. I likely would have been the best year for asparagus, judging from the early growth, but the compost sprouted such an abundance of other things that I fear the asparagus hasn't a chance. Maybe next year. The day after New Millennial brought over the Pride Pinwheel they painted, my beloved carnations started blooming. Some of the early tomatoes are already growing on the bigger plants, which gives me hopes of this year being as good as last year for tomatoes.

* Tuesday, I met the new, alas temporary Doctor. Today's medical theme was arthritis. For those following along, but medical records are on the scale of the complete unabridged writings of Aquinas, as it's impossible for anyone to get a handle on them quickly, so we are doing a series of appointments each centered on a major theme to help get things on track.

I have warned her about the opiods and anti-psychotics both artificially inducing hallucinations and paranoia in people of my family and how it happened to me post surpery in percacet last year so she'll know if I get in a car accident and start hallucinating so they give me an anti-pscotic which together may induce psychotic break. Brains are fun.

I have a new replacement referral for the wheelchair/mobility assessment. It turns out there is now literally one allergy doctor with a tiny practice left in the whole city, which is why we are all so fucked. Peacehealth closed two other essential specialties in which they had a monopoly, fucking over all those patients too, the bastards. she's going to check our county and the county just south for me. It's worth blowing my medical transport credits on. They just way upped the limit anyway.

Medical science has moved forward a lot in the last 10-15 years. One of the early rheums said I likely had fibromyalgia, but it wasn't worth pursuing as medicare didn't believe in it and the treatment would be the same as my way easier to document arthritis and visible to the naked eye spinal damage.

So we are trying a new class of meds to see if I can tolerate them without my brain and/or body flipping out, as so often happens when one introduces new meds to it. I'm at a sub clinical dose to test tolerance, but I can feel the difference. I also feel a bit peculiar, though I'm adjusting.

Long time readers know the drill. I am weird, but if you spot anything obviously weird for me, way off my usual sort of postings, nonsense, irrationality, that sort of thing, give me a heads up that new meds may be driving me off the rails. Squirrel and my usual chat buddies know the drill and I'll let the millennials know what to watch for. Odds are it will be fine. I'm more likely to get stopped by physical side effects on this one, but it's always good to have more spotters.

* Monday I stayed up to get the aggregate out and for phone bureaucracy reasons. I have so many things I need to go before I go into semi-seclusion on May 26th. Assuming I don't get moved up, surgery is June 8th. I can't afford to catch anything, not even a cold, in advance of it of I spend all Summer in this hell awaiting another opening. Yes, head Millennial will still be working, but I am going full infection prevention at that point, so no grocery shopping even masked. No visitors except Head Millennial, who strictly masks in public for my protection in regular life. Windows open and masks when Millennial is here except for quick sips, that sort of thing. Squirrel's work has strict infection prevention protocols, he's triple vaxxed and is strict about masking when he's around Not Us. Given he didn't give me COVID last January, I am not that worried, but still, we will be careful, especially as thing like rhinovirus can linger on surfaces.

When I woke, my body was terrible for a host of reasons, all of them predictable, all made worse by the ongoing health crisis, but none life threatening, just ranging from nuisance to obnoxious. (For example: I lose two options for heading off/dealing with torso spasms, for example because the drugs are dangerous right now. This means for spasms I am left with things like bananas for limb spasms, hot epsom bath for body spasms, etc.. none of these are as fast or sure as meds. Ah well.) I think I counted like 6 things wrong when I woke up. My policy on these occasions is to do what I can to head off big things, which trying to sort out as many small ones as I can peel off. It's... time consuming and really unpleasant.

Still I schlep on. It's what my family has always done.

* We are planning to use most of Squirrel's tax rebate to get a working oven, but the dishwasher is also broken. (The dishwasher is a safety thing because I am medically fragile. Not having a working oven is playing havoc with my nutrition.) My share of the oven plus fixing the dishwasher will likely be in the $600-700 range.

(I am disabled and queer in at least three senses of the word and on a fixed income).

Why not all of his tax refund? he’s in a medical insurance gap and is having an emergent health crisis. He couldn’t have paid for both things anyway.

* Re: the slow catch up. I am still slow from the covid booster, plus it is allergy season, plus the whole ongoing medical crisis, plus my ongoing attempts to properly cover both the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and the Abortion ban news, which are understandably labour intensives. As you can see, I am making progress. I made it well into the history section this time, with the Aidan laptop back log. Why are their things after the 1970's section? Because I pull out time sensitive things lower in the sort and because i scroll a bunch of stuff, particularly comedy and political comedy and about a third of the fluffier stuff every day or two off Klaus. Klaus and Aidan have mostly different jobs, but they do intersect where it comes to the aggregate post and a few other places, in part as a back up so I don't lose 2/3rd done aggregate posts.

Look, I have a lot of both in put and output going on and this is how work flow shook out after the last computer death a little over a year ago. Trust me, I have a system, which mostly works with my brain design and physical challenges.

If the balance seems weird the next week or two and there is a clump of older, lighter stuff, that is my finally gnawing through the back log. Knock wood.

In related news, yes, I watched Heartstopper. It reminded me a lot of the YA Book Boy Meets Boy, even though there is more stress around coming out and social acceptance in this. It is sweet and fluffy and happy for the middle and high schoolers who get to have something so warm and fluffy to watch.

Also in related news, I thought I was out of of Korean zombies, but I found another one hiding on Tubi. It means commercials (Yuck), but it also means I have Korean historical drama zombies to watch before bed. (I have seen Train to Busan, Peninsula, Seoul Station, Alive, All of Us are Dead, kingdom, and the kingdom prequel. I just started Rampant. Other suggestions? At this point I will happily branch out into other quality Asian zombies.

Similarly, Queer People Having Adventures suggestions? I have seen Black Sails. Trust me, my Byzantine Black Sails exegesis is still out there. I have seen Our flag. I have seen a TON of classic queer cinema. I watched Torchwood. Over and Over. Genres: historical drama, comedy adventure, Science Fiction, fantasy. suggestions?
