* One of the things we got out of last week's marathon bureaucracy is Goth Millennial is getting paid to be my aid again. We also carved out eight hours a month for New Millennial. They started getting paid for their work Wednesday.

Let us hope I get to keep my home care aid hours. We should find out soon.

I took them both on Wednesday errands, which was delightful. I used the motorized cart and spent as much time as possible while waiting things in the car with my seat reclined, reading. When we got back I was exhausted, but we also needed to do a full sofa change for the second day in a row because the emperor is being above and beyond destructive just now.

Them: I haven't seen you this exhausted after errands in months.
Me: I kept having to use all the spoons last week. There is a price for that.

This is a reminder for those of you who are not disabled or are recently disabled that this is what pushing through DOES when you are disabled. Yes, the Millennials got their job stuff sorted out and I'm re-certified as still disabled (Every five years I need to prove to various agencies that my spine hasn't spontaneously regenerated to a pristine state, nor my joints, nor my lungs.) and I've shored up my SSI stuff best I can, and we got the cleaning done in time for both inspections, etc., etc. But I'm pretty much going to be fucked physically for a couple of weeks and I got way behind on EVERYTHING last week because there wasn't anything left most days so I kept going to bed hungry and very early and didn't do the stuff I can normally manage.

I am going to be paying and paying and paying.

Tavy did get a nice cuddle nap on me, then go sit on Goth Millennial for a while for pettins until the humans needed to rearrange themselves for dinner.

* Something has gone dramatically wrong with my bank account. I suspect paypal allowed a secret autowithdraw again at exactly the wrong time, which I will need to track down, as a bill I'd scheduled to pay with more than enough money in the account rather suddenly caused an overdraft. (I checked it wasn't Amazon prime randomly reactivating again, but it's a pain in the ass finding the right tab on paypal. I will do that next.) I had some cash I'd socked away at the beginning of the month in case I needed it for inspection cleaning. I put it back in in time to patch the hole, but when Insuarnce auto-withdraws hit, I am fucked. I think $70.00 would cover those plus fees.

* My hip joint was still sitting incorrectly in the socket when I got up Wednesday. Getting dressed and out to collect Goth Millennial was a bit of an epic. I stayed in the car for errands. On my way inside I foolishly stepped up ont the sidewalk instead of hobbling around the long way for the ramp. The joint jumped out of it's spot, and settled in a worse location. This made getting inside and back to my apartment into an extra challenging adventure. Eventually Goth Millennial came back with the other crutch and I made it to the sofa.

We watched a bunch of Skate Canada with Tavy, Goth Millennial kindly fetching things and doing bits of housework and me doing the usual things to try to easy the joint, until Newest Millennial arrived. It was a really good visit and eventually during a hobble to the bathroom, the joint popped back into the proper position. This doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. It just means that the leg works well enough I don't need to lean on two crutches instead of one and I can sit up without it being extreme agony. The pain is still bad, even by my standards, but the odds are good of me not really hurting myself in a slow shuffle to get water or the like. Assuming the joint stays where it is meant to, it'll mend to what passes for reasonable soon enough.

With the exception of drink tea and eat dinner, I'm not enjoying anything my body is doing today.

* Spent Thursday in bed, babying the hip. It is still pretty bad. I did make progress on the Bloody Red baron reread, and Livia pretty much had me to herself, as Tavy moved to his heated bed on the sofa back after dark. Everything takes Forever when my legs are this bad. I didn't even make it to the computer until 1:30AMish. I have little hope of cleaner in the morning and they don't do forage delivery this week. My bedding desperately needs changing and I'm trying to work out if I should gamble on Tuesday or wait yet another week. Sigh.

On the upside, my sling is clean and dry. (It had to go in the wash because of Spillfest. Was that Tuesday? I run laundry Wednesdays lately because that means goth Millennial can get it out and hang it since it's too much for my failing arms.) I really need it today, so I am terribly happy to have the sling back. Bonus, in the interim I've worked out a two heating pad system that gets both my hip joint and shoulder at the same time, so i have that going to, though it's easier on my neck to alternate sling and pad still.

* Friday there were hours and hours of evening cat pets with the Emperor not making drama about turns and things. Then I had a particularly bad bout of spasms. I didn't start mitigation fast enough and ended up doing a two hour epsom and agony bath. On the upside, it has really helped my hip.

* Saturday's Freindfeast went well. It is possible I made too much pie.

* So there's this boomer in my building who hates Goth Millennial and has been low key hassling them for about two and a half years because he objects to them existing. It was small shit until recently when he started following them around and verbally harassing them in the hopes of figuring out which apartment they belong to. He followed us tonight, saying things like, "I hate you." About an hour later Goth Millennial went to take the trash out, and he threatened them and us with a three hundred dollar fine, which suggests his plan is to file complaints in the hopes that management will fine me into insolvency.

I have left an explanation of the situation for Management, asking what their procedure is for dealing with hallway harassment, pointing out that I am disabled and this is my medical aid, and that the problem has been going on for years and is escalating. I asked for 1. a plan to allow us to safely use the hallway, and 2. some assurance that we wouldn't be assessed frivolous fines as he has threatened to do.

Can you tell I've dealt with stuff like this before? I want their complaint to be the first thing management sees Monday morning. I want to be in with history and context before he starts lying to them.

I have also suggested that goth Millennial try to film it next time, as I'm pretty sure video of him following and threatening them while they politely ask him to leave them alone will speak for itself. He's very brazen and entitled.

Squirrel has pointed out that harassing and threatening the aid of a disabled person is a liability issue for management, which I hope will carry weight.

For the record, he is not a physical threat. He looks like has osteoarthritis and I'd bet he's in his 80's. Goth Millennial, while disabled, is tall and looks in good health. This is why we haven't phoned the police. There is zero chance of local PD doing a thing about verbal harassment from a frail old man aimed at counter culture people.

The threat here is to Goth Millennial's well being and to my housing.

So we're letter of the law and super duper customer service polite for the duration. We are documenting the shit out of it, in case it gets to the restraining order phase or the lawsuit phase our the he said they said phase with building management.

I don't trust management to DO anything about it, but I'm hoping us pointing out the threat of frivolous fines will make them look askance at his attempts to get them to levy massive frivolous fines, if you follow. I am hoping the wording of my complaint will suggest to them liability issues around housing discrimination and ADA issues.

Fucking Boomers. We did nothing to him. This all started because three summers ago Goth Millennial was wearing modest shorts in the middle of a massive heat wave, which he verbally objected to. People have a right to wear shorts for fuckssake, but he's been after them ever since.

* When Squirrel got home he agreed with me it was serious. We strongly suspected it was one of two things, both requiring surgery. We were correct, it was the worst of the two. You can tell it is dangerous from them finding me a slot right away at the GP, and a wait time of half a page of my magazine, and about the same between the nurse going and my Doctor coming in. She got me an imaging slot an hour and a half after I walked in the doors. It was terrible and painful, but pretty much everything since I woke up Monday has been so.

I turns out my decision to do ice and painkillers Tuesday night was correct, as it likely reduced inflammation enough to radically decrease my chances of a trip to the ER for emergency surgery. My decision to stick to water only after 10PM was correct in case I needed emergency surgery, though really I don't have an appetite and things like sleeping and eating are hard. I have an exciting list of call the ambulance if X happens while we wait for my GP to get me a surgical consult and outpatient surgical slot. The hospital is massively backed up because of the Plague, but she is trying to fast track me, since this can go very wrong, very easily. So no physio, or bending, or lifting, or moving around more than I absolutely must. Lots of icing to keep inflammation down. Tonight's job is running a test to see if my digestive system still works and to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. If I am careful, odds are I will be okay. I just need to endure. The only way out is through.

I will be heavily medicated for the duration, which may effect post quality.

The cats are being sweet as they generally are in emergencies. everyone is cuddly and sticking close and Tavy has agreed to share the human, which is generally a sign that he is really worried. He's doing a bunch of his stress behaviors (stress blerps, standing over me while I sleep drooling into my eye.), but he isn't clawing me awake in a panic or picking fights, which is a massive help. Head Millennial came and cleaned it up, so I didn't even need to see it, which is nice. Livia is off her feed, but being her usual angel self.

* A bit before bed, Friday morning I improved enough that if I am careful, I won't have to go to the ER for emergency surgery. This is progress. I am weak and shaky and nearly fell twice Thursday evening, only saving myself from a likely catastrophe fall by managing to fling my torso onto the sink counter until my legs kicked back in, but this is a much more bearable pain level. surgery consult is Wednesday. If I am very careful, I should be okay until the actual surgery.

* Our Flag Means Death has eaten my brain entirely. It is everything. They had me at queer pirates, but it just keeps getting better and better.

The thing that really haunts me in my off moments, is that Izzy Hands is basically the sort of guy that nearly got me killed twice in high school, and there is no trauma reaction at all to watching it. Hos obvious unrequited love and the actions he takes are weirdly parallel. That thing where he tries the direct attack? That's me getting attacked at work and ending up with Post concussive syndrome. That thing where he goes to Spanish Jackie and the English? That's Jon and Danny the Slug siccing the biker gang on us. I've seen how dark and toxic that Izzy Hands kind of crush can be, but in this context, it doesn't hurt at all.

* Remember way back at the beginning of this when I wrote extensively in livejournal during the lead up to the Afghan war, that we shouldn't invade Afghanistan because there was very little chance of us achieving any long term good? Remember how I wrote about the long history of resistance their and the then recent Russian occupation? Remember how I said we had no clear exit strategy and that it looked to me like a potential forever war as we suck at things like nation building? That this sure looked like the recipe for another Vietnam? Remember I said we, as a country are not nearly bright enough to meddle with that part of the world. Yes, there are experts who are, but US foreign policy is a blunt instrument mostly wielded by the willfully ignorant with agendas that have nothing to do with working with locals to actually fix things.

Yeah.

My father was against the Vietnam war and at the same time we abandoned all those people who helped us to horrors. I was raised on images of the fall of Saigon, people desperately grabbing on to helicopter legs. I had a Vietnamese friend at my second college who'd been in a camp as a young child after the war and went through horrible trauma before she got out. Most of her family wasn't as lucky. They were mostly tortured to death.

I am furious we went in knowing we were only going to make things worse, kill and maim so many people, waist so many resources. I am furious zero effort is being made yet again to save people who risked everything to help us. Terrible things are going to happen and the second we invaded that became our fault the same way the terrible things we did there are all fault.

* Saturday some friends drove up to visit. It was excellent, but looking at the PNW COVID numbers, I'm going to have to go back to stricter protocols, I think.

As of Monday, I've been threeish weeks without a properly working nebulizer motor. With the air quality as bad as it was last week, I should be doing three doses a day. My normal amount is two. I can just coax oneish dose out in two partial doses a day. I feel like shit, frankly. I'm pretty sure the air filtering is the only way I function at all.

* I got my flu shot today. It was a bit of an odyssey as they made me wait more than half an hour before realizing that even though I get it there every year they randomly no longer take Medicare advantage. Sigh. At least they were kind enough to tell me which pharmacy chain still takes it.

Why didn't I go to my Doctor? Pharmacies get it a month earlier than poverty clinic and I try to go as early in season as I can manage so that I don't turn out to be too sick to get it at appointment time.

Both pharmacies had covid vaccine patients ahead of me. I was the only flu shot that day at either place and it was already evening. Yay, people getting covid shots! Seriously, if you haven't got yours go! Go right away! If you already have been vaccinated? Please go get your flu shot. I know it's likely not a serious risk to you unless you are about my levelish of sick or worse, but it is way nicer not getting flu at all, and it is a risk to people around you. Save your grandmother. Save the cashier with underlying health condition. Save the kid with cancer living on your block. The mild inconvenience of a flu shot is nothing compared to actual flu.

Please, I beg you every year, but CDC is really worried about how flu season is going to go this year given the givens.

The Women capture them and question them. One is the brain abductor, but she doesn't remember at all. They serve the Controller. Bones explains brains to the women. Kirk works out that Spock's brain is the Controller.

The women give the Landing Party a long pain zap and go to work out what to do. They say a lot of sexist things, particularly Scotty. The Landing Party beats up the guards and escape. They explain to Spock he's a disembodied brain. Spock points out Bones doesn't have the technological knowledge to put his brain back in. Spock tells them how to get the pain bands off.

They find the Brain chamber. Head woman zaps them. Kirk uses his remote control to get Spock's body to release them. The Woman says if they take Spock's brain they will all die. It clearly runs their city. They find out their is a taped archive of the knowledge of the city builders they can access through "The Teacher" which is how the woman stole the brain in the first place.

They force the woman into the machine. She threatens them with the phasor, now she's bright. They steal the phasor back. The Teacher only gives three hours of knowledge. She refuses to put the brain back. Bones wants to try despite the brain damage risk. Bones hopes he can retain the knowledge. (Side note: The teacher looks like a crown to match the Iron Throne.)

Bones starts putting the brain back. The women is distressed by the coming civilization collapse. Kirk basically tells her she can trade sex for food and warmth. Eeew. Bones starts to forget how to do the operation. They connect Spock's vocal cords so he can help, instead of putting him under again for some reason. Spock talks him through it. Apparently the split happened during a glacial age. Bones is a jerk about the exposition.

This whole episode.... Sigh.
