* It's been an exhausting week. I had a ton of RL, I am bad in the heat, and I am still in the aftermath of the extreme pain incident, though noticeably improved. I haven't gotten around to scheduling the blood work follow up due to various alarms and excursions, but I can intuit some of the results from the fact that when I went to get my prescription strength D, there were two other prescription strength vitamins waiting for me. No wonder I'm exhausted. We gave up taking me off the prescription strength D for half a year... half a decade ago? Longer? My levels drop as soon as I stop taking them. My chronic anemia was fixed by a drug I was on for a while years ago, but my body seems to have finally bounced back to it's natural state. The third one, I'm pretty sure is related to me not being able to chew as my main dietary source involves fresh vegetables, which inability honestly could be causing the anemia or making it worse also. (For someone not anatomically equipped to menstruate, it's a stupid problem to have. IDK, maybe vampires? sigh.)

Actually, the blood tests were not long after we finally got an oven again (Thank all of you who helped), and honestly the no oven and no chewing were a double whammy to my nutrition since last late Winter? Spring? I've lost track. It's certainly made protein hella challenging. I bet the tests captured my absolute nadir, but it really does explain why I'm still feeling pretty crap.

As of this writing, at the turning of Wednesday into Thursday, I am a week away from being able to chew. I missed so many salad's this summer. I have gone to bed hungry because I don't have the spoons to cook something soft and most of my emergency foods I would normally eat are dangerous. I fantasize about cheese and crackers. I fantasize about toast and sandwiches and pizza and caramels and nuts.

I have eaten the first garden tomatoes though. Two undersized volunteer specimens damaged by the fucked up weather patterns over the weekend, and one full sized perfect heritage tomato I nommed today despite the slight danger posed by the skin, all three fresh from the vine and sun warmed. the flavour was so rich...

I am not explaining this past week here, because most of the things aren't mine to talk about, just know that my found family look after their own.

* We have continued to take the forage boxes, even though they are wasteful because a lot of times I'm too ill to go down in person or I have conflicting medical stuff and there's even less at the in person anyway. squirrel and I get separate boxes and we don't share food and have mutually exclusive medical diets. They put in a program a little while back where there are four types of boxes instead of one. Problem was they made us get the same type and I couldn't get the vegan box if Squirrel was to get his meat. (I'm vegetarian, not vegan, but the vegan box is the only one promising safe for me protein. In person hasn't had safe for me protein since the pandemic except for things like dried beans that are too much work).

This month they worked out a way for us to separate our deliveries and Friday we got the first split delivery. It is a lot less wasteful, and the way it's wasteful can't be helped. (EX: Squirrel can't eat eggs and won't eat carrots. I can't eat egg yolks and can only use the small amount of whites in baking. We literally haven't had an oven that could bake since last winter until a couple of weeks ago, and Ii haven't been able to chew since some point last spring. Cutting two dozen eggs to one is helpful, but we're still going to be giving eggs away to other poor people. We still can't use twenty carrots a week. When I could chew one or two carrots a week was maximum usage). There are still a bunch of things we are simply going to have to give away to other poor people or take to the food bank and things no one we know can use. (Squirrel, several of my Millennials, and I all can't digest onions, for example). There is a fundamental problem because there can't be customization at this scale, but at least having four box types is a step forward.

Get this, the vegan box came with Impossible burger meat! There was enough for two. Head Millennial made me one Saturday and it was delicious. we used tomatoes and lettuce from the garden, with ketchup and some of the good Mexican Revolutionary hot sauce. (I forget the name, but it has the round ball top?) Omnomnom.

Saturday, a few of us went out to look at Halloween store displays (aka. free haunted houses), as Spirit opened up at the mall. While we were out I got fresh fruit and an eggplant, head Millennial promises to cook when we are not so tired.

It's not that we've been ignoring my nutrition, but it has been just stupid hard to make good food I can eat until recently. It's still a struggle. I'm so tired of being hungry all the time.

Wednesday can't come soon enough. I noticed when brushing Saturday morning the preliminary's starting to loosen. I'm hoping it will hold together until Wednesday as it already hurts when I brush.

* The sky is still the wrong colour and everything smells scorched and toxic, but round about Thursday or Friday, the wind pattern snapped back into something like normal. We even had a little drizzle Sunday evening. We can't dismantle the heavy air filtration until the inland fires are done, but everything is much more bearable now in our tiny micro-climate.

I am still tired and hungry, but I'm starting to feel a little better. There was a really good sale on Beyond Burger when we stopped in to the Cheapie looking for soft foods, so I got some. It's not that I don't have Bocas in my freezer, but something in this feels like it's filling a nutritional hole. Pea protein? IDK. They are usually far to expensive to buy, but I'm guessing theirs a local glut or something. They are too much work for me to cook in my current state, but Head Millennial can make them well.

* Thank you to everyone who contributed to the recent fundraiser. Friday, I was informed the transwoman is housed and has funds to carry her to safety in the North once her paperwork is sorted.

* Every time they run that add where the father tells his daughter he loves his son best and then the father and son smugly fist bump and the ad pretends this is cute and funny I want to slap an ad executive and whoever okayed it at whatever company's product is is trying to sell. Some kind of chicken? IDK. I don't eat meat, so really all I notice is the decision to normalize cruelty and emotional abuse in an ad that runs multiple times an hour.

What kind of monster thinks this is okay?

* I am disgruntled over the Animal Kingdom finale. I'm fine with what happens to Craig. Andrew's fate, annoying as the Jay outcome is, made complete sense with his series character arc and this season's arc particularly, so it worked for me. I was pretty sure this was where Jay's arc was going from season one on and much as I'd have loved a twist, it makes character and narrative sense, and I never let my hopes get up for something different.

It's Darren that burns me. It seems to me they could have cut like 30 seconds of the endless boring shot of Jay looking around and used that to show a quick shot of Darren in an airport disembarkation area. If it wasn't worth the price of Adrian's actor or he wasn't available, they could have shot over the shoulder of a body double to show Darren's face as he sees who's waiting. They could close shot as they wrap their arms around each other. Simple, neat, and they'd have one fucking arc in there with a happy ending, for the character who's arc all series was realizing he wanted something better for himself and that included love.

Instead, a brilliantly acted devastating scene, but no real resolution. Did he make it to Mexico and on to Thailand or Indonesia? Get shot by cops? Get arrested?

With Black Sails, the Schrodinger's ending made sense thematically and characterize given the double layer of unreliable narration. I don't hate ambiguous endings where they fit with everything else. I hate it here because you have four characters we've been following since episode one, and oops! Only the gay one doesn't get a real ending of his own, just again a beautiful acted reaction to the end of the least interesting of the four character's story, and it feels so fucking cheap and having had at least half the season to anticipate them selling the gay character's arc short doesn't make me any less disgusted by it.

* Am I furious over the "Freddie" episode of What We Do in the Shadows for at least five reasons? Yes. I'm waiting to see where the last episode goes before I decide where I am on the show as a whole.

* The exhaustion is still really bad, though a little better Saturday. I think part of it is damage from fire season, part is people endlessly waking me up, and part is a couple weeks of warm extremely muggy weather, which I don't deal with very well. It rained today which helped some. The Married Millieniels came to visit today, after caregiver Millennial and I did a ton of grocery shopping.

- 3.2: The Enterprise Incident.

Kirk is cranky and assholish. he is refusing psychiatric tests and R&R. He orders them into the Romulan Neutral Zone, then Romulan Space without orders. They see what look like Klingon ships, but are really Romulan. Kirk says he'll blow the ship rather than surrender. The Romulans are interested in Spock. They give the feds an hour to surrender. he asks opinions. Command crew are shirty about the going into Romulan territory without orders.

The Romulans want Kirk and Spock to come over to parlay. They offer two hostages in exchange. The commander speaks to Kirk alone first. She wants to know why they crossed. Kirk lies it's instrument failure. she doesn't believe them. Then She questions Spock. They have the same ancestors. She tests the myth that Vulcans can't lie. "It is not a lie to keep a truth to oneself." She accuses them of spying on the cloaking systems. She says her methods of questioning won't work on Vulcans, but may damage or kill Kirk. Spock points out that "the strain of command" has gotten to Kirk. Kirk behaves erratically and yells, "That's a lie!" Thus explaining Kirk's previous assholery was meant to convince truthful Spock of his instability in preparation for this moment. Spock says what he thinks is true and the Romulans know Vulcans don't lie, so... Anyway, Spock states for the record Kirk is insane and they had no orders.

Kirk is facing espionage charges, but Spock's testimony exonerates the Enterprise crew. Scott refuses to surrender the ship and threatens to blow up the ship if they are boarded. Kirk accuses Spock of disloyalty. The Romulan questions Spock about being a Vulcan on Kirk's ship. Spock explains about being half Vulcan with a human mother. He stands on his duty. She tries to tempt him with his own ship to command. He points out that she's the one wanting a ship: The Enterprise. She keeps trying to turn him.

Kirk is injured by guards. They beam McCoy over. The Romulan invites Spock to dinner. He discovers which corridor is forbidden. he keeps playing with her. "It is illogical to assume all conditions remain stable." McCoy claims Kirk is insane, supporting Spock's testimony. Spock is now in command. Kirk attacks Spock. Spock puts him out with a supposed Vulcan death grip. McCoy pronounces Kirk dead.

The death is faked of course, and McCoy brings him back aboard the enterprise. Nurse chapel catches them. Kirk tells them to keep pretending he's dead. McCoy summons Scott. McCoy has altered Kirk to look like a Vulcan, which startles Scott. Scott gets him a Romulan uniform.

The Romulan commander plies him with Vulcan cooking, strong drink, and her seductive powers. Spock hasn't sent coordinates. Kirk pretends to be an escaped centurion and goes looking for intelligence. The Romulan tells Spock to lead a small group across to take the enterprise. He puts her off for an hour, making it look like he was seduced.

While she goes to change, Spock sends Kirk the location of the devise. The Romulan crew notice a transmission. Spock and the Romulan hand fuck. Spock claims to be moved "emotionally." The Romulan Captain cock blocks them and fingers Spock. The Comander works out they are stealing the cloaking devise. Kirk is caught, but claims to be looking for the spy. He drops his weapon as ordered, but attacks the guards, stealing the devise and beaming away.

The commander is betrayed and wants to know what is he that he could do this to her. "First officer of the Enterprise." Then he asks about "your present form of execution." Very gloriously Spock. Meanwhile Scotty tries to install the cloaking device while Spock stalls, and the Enterprise techs try to pinpoint his life signature. The Romulan Commander orders a boarding action on the Enterprise.

Spock demands the rite of statement according to Romulan tradition. He gives a long speech. Romulan and Vulcan life signs are almost the same. They manage to beam up Spock and the commander, then flee. The Commander orders the destruction of the Enterprise. Scotty gets the cloaking devise to work and they change course so they aren't hit. Spock sort of apologizes Vulcan wise and admits to being tempted without saying it directly. "It was the only choice possible. You would not respect any other." Seriously this whole exchange is beautiful. They put Kirk's ears and eyebrows back.

As bad as some of the season three scripts often are, this one was really good and I particularly appreciate both the subtly of Spock's dialog and the delicacy of Nimoy's performance are really impressive. the guest star playing the commander does some really lovely acting too and rises above the lack of subtly in some of her earlier dialog.

* Wednesday I was back to annoying chronic illness stuff, including my often problematic eye pulling out the stops and the right shoulder joint stuff being extra, but I seem to be over the Pfiser shot. I ended up doing a bunch of scheduling and rescheduling of medical stuff, careful of the second shot timing.

How to tell I'm old: It occurred to be that by the time the farmer's market is open and in full swing, It'll be safe for me to shop outside. I could buy my own starts and vegetables. It was really exciting.

* Saturday: Rupert laptop has been having conniptions and between crashes and Tavy rebooting him a bunch I lost a massive, unrecoverable amount of data. I am too exhausted at this point to spend more than a couple of hours trying to get it back.

Update: Rupert Laptop is dying. I guess I know the first thing I need to do with stimulus money. Needless to say, trying and failing to solve Rupert's issues ate Saturday.

I know fuck all about what's good. If any of you are tech inclined, I'd love suggestions for reasonably priced 8GB Ram laptop with large screen or a desk top I can plug in to Main Computer's old monitor.

We've had generations of propaganda rolling out about how it's good if cops dehumanize and harm people with hardly any counter. Let's go the whole other way. Make Dirty Harry the bad guy, because cops executing children for playing in the park or fathers for selling a cigarette need to be reviled for the monsters they are and cop shows are still pretending rough rides are good policing.
