* Sunday was a trip to the Lake with Millennials. No rich children stole my crutch this time. We had a really good swim, but the current was above average strong and at some point I was like, "Oh shit! There's the swim boouy! We are in the middle of the boat lanes. We swam back. It was fine. They put in an outdoor shower this year, which is a huge help. After we showered we ate finger foods and chatted.

I stopped by the bathrooms on the way to my car and OMG! It was one of those things where there was a perfectly logical explanation from the perspective of the three of us already in the bathroom, but like opening a door into chaos for the other two people involved.

This bathroom is tiny. Three stalls on your left. Across from that a big metal communal urinal. The sink and mirror give an excellent view of the door and also a small bench they jammed in against the door wall. It's almost 6:30PM on a crowded hot weekend. it's a couple hours before sunset, so the park is less crowded than when we arrived 4ish, but people are still arriving and the bathroom is Trashed. The little beach strip is more mud then sand and people have been tracking water and black mud/sand in there for about ten hours and there is tp paper mache all over the ground and the toilets desperately need cleaning.

So I step out of the stall, just as a person is heading to the nasty ass urinal trench thing. Another guy is climbing up on the bench to change, because he understandably doesn't want to be barefoot on that floor and then put on shoes to drive home. Bench guy is soon full on pooh bear over my right shoulder as i wash my hands, which takes a while because the water keeps auto shutting off, so I have to stop and restart every few seconds. Perfectly framed over my left shoulder is the door, which swings open.

It's two gentlemen, one of whom beelines for the urinal. The other freezes in horror and starts yelling, "Wrong bathroom! Wrong bathroom!" I have very long hair. I am wearing a mask because I'm in a small, poorly ventilated place. I have on a black tee and my trunks look like goth shorts. My sandals are of an ubiquitous style worn my any gender in my region in good weather. I'm very androgynous. I think it was my hair causing the initial panic, but his head turned to follow his friend's trajectory to the 2-3 person piss trench and he saw bench guy crouched pantsless behind me like a downhill skier doing the streak, as if he was possibly about to pounce on my back, and his cries of wrong bathroom got a lot more shrill. In my head I'm picturing the Guy in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas who walks in on hippies liking a guy's jacket. His oblivious friend is doing his business, the other guy is about to leave. I turn and head towards the poor panicky guy and am like: It's the right bathroom. I have long hair.

We have accidentally traumatized a guy who was clearly not ready for the PNW weird.

A couple millennials came back for dinner. Once we arrived, I realized just how fucked I was. I'd swum too long and my arms were DONE. Luckily, I'd dropped off New Millennial to get their car and a take 'n bake, so I could just lung and rest up. They ended up staying very late talking. I closed down the apartment for the night and went to bed.

I could have gotten up nineish, but I decided to read Camp Damascus in between pettins and supplemental sleep all day, which turned out to be a good call. I have this thing where I promise the Millennials that if they are ever stranded at one of the further bits of town they can call me and if I physically can, I will come get them. Bus service is even shittier out there and there's a severe lack of shelters to wait in. It was pouring down at a rate that was threatening to flood low lying areas. A Millennial was trapped at the back of beyond with a long drenching slog to the bus. Of course I went, but it turned into a a much longer trip than intended for reasons that were no one's fault. I got them home and reasonably dry though, and I'm not sorry.

It did eat and extra chunk of evening though, and I'm really chewed up from swimming. I am very glad I got the aggregate out Friday, because I'm not up to much posting this evening.

We plan to do lake swimming on Sundays all August, which will effect posting schedule.

* I was getting better. I swear I was. I started the second z-pac Thursday because while clearing, my lungs weren't clear. I also kind of felt crap Thursday evening, but in the expected ways given the war inside my body.

Ad then I had an ICU dream. These aren't nightmares. No really. I get them when my lungs are bad and the dream is about going on oxygen and having actual appropriate medical care. Other Americans will see why this is kind of an exciting concept. People in developed countries will likely be like: isn't that every day?

Anyway, I half woke up and thought, "Huh, that's odd. My lungs aren't bad enough for me to be dreaming about supplemental oxygen," and went back to sleep.

This was a mistake. I bet you can see the mistake already, but in my defense: half asleep and when I went to bed I was projecting them drying up by Monday.

I woke up with really bad lungs. Like worse than the day they started me on the second antibiotic bad lungs. I moved a little and ended up having to eject a cat and lean over the side of me bed in case I vomited from coughing bad.

My the time I got it together I was too late for the clinic call in hours, apparently. Like they were till open, but o longer answering phones.

Long time readers will know that I general get a virus and then an opportunistic bacterial lung infection moves in while my immune system is extra distracted between fighting off the virs and it's main goal of eating large sections of my body under the beleif that most of me is a foreign object.

Except this is clearly bacterial or it wouldn't have been responding to antibiotics. Which means odds are i just pulled the rare opposite scenario. What have I had to do a lot of the past three weeks? Go to assorted Doctors despite my real concern about infection risk. <.< >.>

Nothing could be done except wait for me to reach live people at the poverty clinic. I'm maxing out my lung treatments.

I think I need a COVID test. If I have it, odds are squirrel and I are both dead.

Update: as of 9AM, I have spent an hour so far hunting for an open Covid test slot before Tuesday. *digits cruciform*

* I watch a lot of zombie movies. Like most of them at least once. One'll slip by here or there only to be noticed a few years later and I'll have to wait for some to come up somewhere I can watch free, but I watch them all, even the terrible z-grade ones. I've been dreaming about zombies in one form another since I was literally three, before I knew the word. IDK, they resonate with me for a bunch of reasons, some of which I've written about before.

I have watched aquatic NAZI zombies, stripper zombies, lederhosen zombies, crappy racist pre-Romero zombies. I love Romero and always will. I love Cemetery Man. Train to Busan is now my favorite, but seriously Dawn of the dead in particular was formative in a bunch of ways. I even watched the zombienado thing the sharknado people made.

I may have found one of the worst zombie movies ever made last night. I mean, at least Zombienado and the zombie strippers had some camp value and the self awareness to know they aren't making a good flick here, just making a flick period, so they just had fun with it. It was a terrible, terrible thing, that made very little sense, couldn't pick a tone, was consistently horribly racist despite being made in 2014 and randomly casually homophobic, and had possibly the stupidest, most annoying collection of characters ever assembled in a zombie movie. Also it was simultaneously vehemently christian and anti-christian in a way that just kept confusing me. It seemed to be trying to say something about religion, but the whole thing was so incoherent, I can't venture a guess as to what.

When I say stupid, I mean I literally could not figure out how this collection of people could survive an hour in a zombie apocalypse let alone a year and a half. These zombies are attracted to noise, but they never shut up and like yelling and screaming all the fucking time. All of their ideas are terrible and frequently deadly. The teenager keeps wandering off by herself. they keep putting limbs and faces next to infected people. they don't pay attention to undead they can see coming towards them because their annoying petty personal dramas are more important than not getting bitten. They keep splitting up and getting attacked.... Like seriously, how'd they make it this far?

The two supposedly bright characters really, really weren't. One was a bunch of ableist tropes (both mental and physical) in a man suit. The other? Was supposedly a scientist, but was only marginally brighter than the others. If this movie wasn't from the UK and six years old, I'd have thought he was a trump CDC political appointee. Like get this: They did mass inoculations of the military with an experimental vaccine they had not bothered to test for safety and efficacy. They had no tests to see if there were any side effects apparently before they lined them up and dosed them with the stuff. What could go wrong? Dude!

So I have to ask, how did someone with 45's level of mental impairment get put in charge of a biological warfare vaccine development program of this magnitude? How did he get the credentials to get hired? What muppet let him handle level four pathogens? Did not one person anywhere in the process suggest at least one proper phase 3 study?

And his decisions stopped making any sense at all once they ran into literal Sweet zombie Jesus. No really. There is a literal zombie Jesus and what little sense the character had in their heads falls right out along with the already minimal coherence to the plot.

I just can't with this film. I keep trying to work out what any of the characters were thinking or why they did any of the things they did and I can't. I still have no idea why zombie Jesus' powers worked the weird inconsistent way they did, just as I can't explain WTF they had a live action first person shooter style intro tacked on at the start of the movie and what if any information it was meant to convey.

They'd have been better off killing off these people as an intro and then made another better movie with characters that I actually wanted to watch doing things that made sense instead of bickering loudly to attract zombies and occasionally literally feeding themselves to zombies on purpose.

She's the last of her cohort. When Squirrel first moved in, she watched Mache telling me she wanted pets by gently placing her paw on my arm or leg. I always immediately started petting her. All these years after the cancer took Mache, Little Miss still does it, this endearing gesture she picked up from her eternal rival. Neither Tavy nor Livia have learned it as she doesn't do it when they are watching. When Little Miss goes, she takes this echo of my girl with with her. When I feed her shreds, she still sands silent and polite where I trained her to stand so she wouldn't freak out my poor sweet incredibly nervous Hector, all these years after he died. Little Miss is a very good cat.

As I typed that last paragraph she lifted her head, concerned by my tears. I gave her a pet, so she'd know it's all right.

UPDATE: This evening, she's noticeably improved and had enough strength in her right foreleg to eat without shaking. She’ll stumble a little when a right side leg doesn’t work the way she expects, but she’s getting around okay.

* I've cancelled foraging for obvious reasons. It's the most dangerous place besides the doctor's office that I go, pathogen wise. EBT came Monday, and so I ventured forth for provisions to find the provisions seriously lacking and big empty patches on the shelves. The only safe for me and delicious cup of soups were completely gone, leaving only the meat ones. All the good flavours of ready meals were also out of stock at the two stores I went to. The toilet paper was sold out in the big packs, and next sized down was about three dollars more expensive than expected. Sigh. Luckily, I did not use all last month's cup of soups, but I only have half as many soups/ready meals on hand as I like.

There was a whole drama with my EBT that eventually got sorted which I'm too tired to explain, which ate all my Monday evening. Then we had a major internet outage, which is why tumblr got postings, but the aggregate didn't go up on dream with.

While I was out on the TP run, my cough shifted. For those following along, I got a bacterial sinus/lung infection at the end of December, which I continue to deal with. There is no question that it's bacterial. I know sputum and it did respond to antibiotics, though they didn't clear it up entirely. As of Sunday, I had clear sinus indicators and as of yesterday, my lungs were still trying to clear in ways that definitely looked bacterial.

Today? The cough changed and I started getting some extra symptoms. It could be my lung infection's drying up, but a caught a cold. It could be allergy stuff on top of the lingering infection. It could be coronavirus because odds are, the out break is here given travel up and down I-5. Who knows? So I'm watching it. I'm okay on provisions, except special girl kibbles and litter, but nothing can be done there for another week or two. I can stay in except for Doctor appointments, but Squirrel can't because of his job and he's actually even higher risk than I am, so idk.

My breathing is right now within the realm of reasonable for someone with lungs as borked as mine. I have blood work follow up tomorrow, I think. Right now, it's wait and see, really. This is not panic. It really could be one of the non-lethal combos above. This is me taking account of risk factors as best as I can. One of the problems with being as sick as I am with my particular collections of chronic illness is it’s really hard to tell what's going on a lot of the time because symptoms can mask other symptoms. Am I sluggish because I burned too many spoons in the Great Vinegar Disaster and the battle with the renovation dust? Am I sluggish because my immune system is actually trying to do something about the more than two months of bacterial infection? Am I sluggish because I'm catching a cold and fighting the older bacterial infection? Am I sluggish because the barometer is yoyoing and pissing off my AS? Am I sluggish because I'm missing a nutrient because my foot is still borked and doing real cooking hurts too much? I need more data points. Time will send them.

* Friday was also a Day. The nice electrician really did turn up at 8AM to start doing complicated things to Squirrel's electrical panel. This meant that Squirrel had to carry Elder Kitty over her vociferous protests into my room to be confined with the Imperial couple and myself, my room being the only safe haven for small animals in what was about to be a three man whirlwind of activity.

Squirrel's cat is about 20, with mild dementia, and prone to incontinence at the best of times. She's also prone to stress diarrhea. From the second her little beans landed on my bed, I knew that I was going to be cleaning up the results at some point. My best hope was she would do it somewhere easy to kind and clean.

Elder Kitty avoids my bedroom. It is Tavy's territory and while there are mounting stools cats can use to shorten the jump, it is a LOT for an arthritic cat who was never much of a jumper, and who periodically locked herself inside rooms even before she had dementia because she was never all that clear on how doors work. Like, even at her sharpest, she was the low end of normal for cat intelligence. To my delight, she managed to figure out the system for getting on and off the bed.

She is and always has been a stubborn little thing, so she spent rather a long time scratching to get out, with Tavy staring down at her from his perch on the bed in absolute out rage. Eventually she realized there was no rescue and by this point all three of the men were hard at it with all the noise and banging of doors that entails.

Back in the before time Mache and I strictly enforced a no fighting on my bed rule. Elder Kitty had not been on my bed since we moved out of the previous apartment. She remembered the rule, and to my absolute surprise, Tavy did not go after her, possibly because as aggressive as he is, hiding from the invaders is more important than the endless power struggle with a grumpy old Lady. LM and Tavy spent a good half an hour glaring at each other from opposite sides of my bed. Livia, had sensibly retreated to her favorite hide at the first knock on the patio door, so all her spots except that one were vacant. Eventually the two little asshole cats silently decided to divide the room between Royal and Imperial Forces. Elder Kitty eventually settled down on the spot Livia likes window side at the foot of the bed, while Tavy stayed on the closet side where he could also guard Livia. This meant no one came for cuddle naps on me, as I was literally the border between the temporary spheres of control.

Inevitably, Elder Kitty took the expected dump of such foulness it awoke the rest of us. Tavy responded my 'marking his territory.' Luckily they both did this on the floor where it was easiest to clean. Unfortunately, It literally took hours to find out where the fuck LM had made her deposit. By this time, most of the work but the odds and ends was accomplished in Squirrel's rooms, so I could drop her off in her own room with her own things for the bulk of the day. It was lunch time for the father and son team and the Electrician was very quiet, so Tavy thought the work was done and I had a hell of a time keeping him in the room. Even Livia peeked out to see if it was safe. I let her sniff my fingers and made reassuring sounds, but I kept them imprisoned while I cleaned Tavy's mess and searched all over for LM's to no avail. (Normally, I let them out at Contractor Lunch Time for snacks and a wander, but staggered lunches meant they were stuck in there all day, poor wee beasties.)

Eventually I decided to give up and come back once the contractors were done for the day and tear the room apart if I had to. I changed pillow cases, which needed doing, and headed out for forage and to pay small bill.

The Electrician was goon when I got home and to my real surprise and delight they really had managed to get the tub working in time. It's not finished, mind. They can't close up the walls until after electrical inspection and they don't expect the surround to arrive for another weekish. It's basically a tub with hot and cold water tubes clamped off, but the jets are working. I'm not to use it until tomorrow night, but tomorrow night? I am totally having a good long soak in what is essentially a mini hot tub. Pappy Contractor is my ageish and he was so impressed by it, he says he may get himself one. It's a really clever design. You can fill it within an inchish of the top as it has a wee trough there to prevent over flow.

It continues to absolutely stun me that the city is doing something as compassionate as giving me this tub. It is going to be so damned good for my AS, and is actually more accessible as I can sit on the edge, and once all the bars are in place I'll have a way easier time getting in and out without the horrible metal frame. I'll still need to save up for a shower curtain and bar, as Squirrel is using the old shower curtain to make a privacy screen and airlock for when he has his swamp cooler on. I mean, yes, technically it's mine, but I hardly ever shower because it hurts and is dangerous, but at the same time I'd like the option for emergencies, like when I spill tea all over myself or the like where I really want a quick spot clean instead of a whole bath. So another thing on the list for long term.

The apartment is a mess, of course, dust and plaster everywhere and they are still working on the dry wall which needs to be done and painted before the floor goes back in. My furniture and belongings and some of there tools are piled in odd places, but Squirrel and I dragged the bathroom and Kitchen things back where they go so I can cook properly and do laundry, which became rather pressing when I discovered just where Elder Kitty had pooped. (I have an old cover up thing my Mom left on her last visit that I drape over the light box, which Livia often likes to sleep on. Apparently LM hid her disgrace by pulling at the cloth hiding it in the folds.) I am double washing it, because Eeeeew.

In any case, the Imperials took turns at watching the gazebo birds from the living room window sill once they were sure things have calmed down. My floor has been double washed and my room fumigated. I did NOT quite manage to pay my car tab renewal because I left the bill on my desk when I went out. D'oh! And the property tax bill came in for the apartment today, so that's all next week's problem.

I am in quite a lot of pain, but having the door, window, and all the fans on high all day really did help with the fumes and dust, so my lungs aren't that bad considering. Really I need to save up for replacing all the air filter filtery bits because it's really doing extra duty and it's over due, but that will have to be spring's problem.

I am like two weeks behind on LGBTQIA+ news and who knows what else. I can make no guarantees about how long it will take me to catch up as I had to medicate myself rather heavily to manage dinner and I have to tackle the plaster/dust tomorrow for the sake of my lungs whatever the rest of my body insists. I have obviously been prioritizing Election, Autocracy, and wherever I have energy left epidemic news. I will keep doing that and squeeze in whatever else I can manage concentration wise as I go.

I want to thank everyone who helped keep the Cat Asylum running the last two months. It's been a nightmare between nearly two months with this lung and sinus pathogen, the foot and double extra bad AS stuff, the sleep disruption, the extra physical challenges, the chaos, the stress, the extra bills, etc.. I really could not manage without all of you.

* Saturday: I had really annoying spasms waking me up over and over, but I had a bath in the new tub once I'd waited the requisite time and OMG is it better. A whole new world. It's not finished yet and I need to futz with the settings, but bathing in what is effectively a mini jaccuzzi is heaven. The walls are still ripped out and likely to stay that way another weekish, but as of this afternoon, I can bath again. I am so clean. Also massaged by jets. It is really helping with my AS and I am immensely grateful my city agreed to install one as part of their renovation of my apartment.

* I got a call mid sleep cycle from the city liaison guy because he wanted to come over for a meeting. They've worked out the electrical estimates and are now submitting my bathtub etc. to the council that decides these things. It leaves abut $580 contingency with the floor repair. i told him to just fill in the triangle with an edging strip in something a couple shades darker so it looks deliberate, because ripping up the floor is way more expensive and the floor pattern is discontinued. He thinks that'll work budget wise. I made super clear I haven't more money to put into the renovation. he submitted the changes this afternoon.

* I logged on quick Sunday to check email and discovered all my links gone. IDK. It does this randomly sometimes. I hadn't time to futz with it then. I just spent a couple of hours reconstructing what I could, but odds are, things I was working on were lost. I'm sorry.

We actually accomplished quite a bit. The bedroom is as ready as I can make it and still have to remotely livable. As it stands, I moved some things to the closet side drawers and I'm trying to remember to dismount that side, which is harder than it sounds when I'm barely awake and trying to roll out for a quick stumble to the bathroom. I nearly broke something (one of my legs, the light box and it's contents) the first time I woke up and went the wrong way. The cats are very distressed. Livia has lost her second favorite hide, and the big body pillow Livia likes to sleep on is now on the window side, which means all of their various mesting locations are scrambled and no one knows who owns which of the 6 or so popular sleeping locations. There was quite a bit of stress blerping, but they are a touch more settled now. Because of the bed literally taking up most of the room and the placement of small objects habits I developed to deal with the lopsided clearances around the bed, I keep is covering stupid things, like when i get up, I pull the covers the wrong way and Tavy dismounts the wrong side and is so in the way of my flailing uncoordinated exit. My first meds protocol was thrown up by having the big pillow the wrong side. It's all stupid little things, really. I need to remember to try to push the bed further Wednesday morning before he arrives, but if I do that early, I lose access to things like my underwear. I have hopes of getting him another six inches. It's still going to be scary tight.

We finished breaking down the 20, cleaning and stowing it, and about half the mantle's cleared. The rest needs packing away and I need to find somewhere safe for the boxes of fragile. I am currently storing pictures we had/have to pull down on top of the dryer. I've a friend coning Tuesday to sort it, as it's all ladder work. I'm trying to figure out where the benches are going, and I've a nasty suspicion I'm going to have to squeeze them between plants on the patio, possibly with some chairs on top of them, but that is a tomorrow problem.

I found three dead fish yesterday and did another massive change. I think one had been from the big die off and trapped under the fish furniture, but the other two looked freshish. Sigh. I've confirmed fifteen alive today, which doesn't mean that's all there are. (Note: This is actually more fish than I spotted the night of the die off. There is a lot of fish furniture in there and I literally can't see all of the places they an be.)

There was sweeping. So. Much. Sweeping.

We also made it out to the home depot a half hour to close, my friend taking notes, and me with my measuring tape. I have emailed the contractor a tub suggestion and asked some questions about toilet seats and paper holders. We'll see. If they let me have this tub it will be heaven. We aren't budgeted for a walk in, but this one is actually deep enough, with an edge I can sit on when I get in and out and jets. They didn't have any surrounds matching, so I have no way of telling if we can get a surround in budget.

We'll see if they let me get it. If they do it will be a massive help with my AS, especially with a new water heater. Trust me, there is nothing like a good hot epsom soak when it gets bad, and this thing is actually deep enough to do that properly. We've already ordered an accessible shower/faucet/spout set, so that part's set.

Once the tub/surround and the toilet details are settled, it'll be all ordered and moving. First wave repairs start 9AM Wednesday.

The Contractor's been a saint, helping me find things that work inside the specs and we've been going back and forth with links. There was literally one toilet we could get from the three suppliers that fit the specs, and the sweet man found it. When he noticed I kept picking black fixtures, he even checked to see if the toilets came in black, which they do! :) Seriously, I could not have managed this without him because no way would I have been up to finding the needle in the haystack there, and no way could I have done that much walking in Home Depot and Lowe's.

* The thing my friend commented on yesterday was how much autonomy the are letting me have. Most programs for the poor and disabled don't give you choices or cater to what the specific person needs. They tend to do one size fits all things picked by someone who is and has never been poor and/or disabled. They tend to infantilize and assume we are incapable of making good decisions for ourselves in our best interest.

They didn't say the word "Dignity," but I thought it. Assuming that I'm competent to pick my own energy efficient washer and dryer within a certain range of specs and under a particular budget according to my needs and aesthetic taste is treating me, an impoverished disabled person who literally nearly fell into a fish tank Sunday because standing is hard, like an adult and not an incompetent. It feels nice. The cynical part of me suspects that this is because the program is for people who could afford their own home before they got old and/or disabled. It's easier for tax payers to sympathize for someone who outlived their savings or had a horrible accident or catastrophic illness than for people who are victims of the refusal to make minimum wage a living wage and 40 years of Republican tax policy, but here we are.

* Today I was actually up and about to do errands at a reasonable time, though forage was closed for MLK and I couldn't solve the wiper situation because there was literally no room for my car in line.

Did I mention some asshole broke off both my rear wiper and my front passenger side wiper during the week I wasn't driving? Because they did. Uh, thanks? At least they left me the driver's side or I'd have been fucked. at least I was able to price the passenger replacement today before I went to play small bill. (They would very much like me to start paying more every month, given how much I owe them, which is understandable. I had, in fact budgeted more for this month, but most of the extra is going to buy a passenger side wiper. I'll just need to learn to live with the back one being gone. The small bill people were surprisingly nice about it, all things considered.

Anyway, I got the meds I discovered I was low on over the weekend and spent the last of my EBT on the way home, so it wasn't a total loss.
