* Monday I stayed up to get the aggregate out and for phone bureaucracy reasons. I have so many things I need to go before I go into semi-seclusion on May 26th. Assuming I don't get moved up, surgery is June 8th. I can't afford to catch anything, not even a cold, in advance of it of I spend all Summer in this hell awaiting another opening. Yes, head Millennial will still be working, but I am going full infection prevention at that point, so no grocery shopping even masked. No visitors except Head Millennial, who strictly masks in public for my protection in regular life. Windows open and masks when Millennial is here except for quick sips, that sort of thing. Squirrel's work has strict infection prevention protocols, he's triple vaxxed and is strict about masking when he's around Not Us. Given he didn't give me COVID last January, I am not that worried, but still, we will be careful, especially as thing like rhinovirus can linger on surfaces.

When I woke, my body was terrible for a host of reasons, all of them predictable, all made worse by the ongoing health crisis, but none life threatening, just ranging from nuisance to obnoxious. (For example: I lose two options for heading off/dealing with torso spasms, for example because the drugs are dangerous right now. This means for spasms I am left with things like bananas for limb spasms, hot epsom bath for body spasms, etc.. none of these are as fast or sure as meds. Ah well.) I think I counted like 6 things wrong when I woke up. My policy on these occasions is to do what I can to head off big things, which trying to sort out as many small ones as I can peel off. It's... time consuming and really unpleasant.

Still I schlep on. It's what my family has always done.

* We are planning to use most of Squirrel's tax rebate to get a working oven, but the dishwasher is also broken. (The dishwasher is a safety thing because I am medically fragile. Not having a working oven is playing havoc with my nutrition.) My share of the oven plus fixing the dishwasher will likely be in the $600-700 range.

(I am disabled and queer in at least three senses of the word and on a fixed income).

Why not all of his tax refund? he’s in a medical insurance gap and is having an emergent health crisis. He couldn’t have paid for both things anyway.

If you would like to help: paypal.me/Gwydion

* Re: the slow catch up. I am still slow from the covid booster, plus it is allergy season, plus the whole ongoing medical crisis, plus my ongoing attempts to properly cover both the Russian Invasion of Ukraine and the Abortion ban news, which are understandably labour intensives. As you can see, I am making progress. I made it well into the history section this time, with the Aidan laptop back log. Why are their things after the 1970's section? Because I pull out time sensitive things lower in the sort and because i scroll a bunch of stuff, particularly comedy and political comedy and about a third of the fluffier stuff every day or two off Klaus. Klaus and Aidan have mostly different jobs, but they do intersect where it comes to the aggregate post and a few other places, in part as a back up so I don't lose 2/3rd done aggregate posts.

Look, I have a lot of both in put and output going on and this is how work flow shook out after the last computer death a little over a year ago. Trust me, I have a system, which mostly works with my brain design and physical challenges.

If the balance seems weird the next week or two and there is a clump of older, lighter stuff, that is my finally gnawing through the back log. Knock wood.

* Timely. "ILU-486:" https://amandaching.wordpress.com/2012/02/20/67/

* All I really want to watch lately is queer people having adventures and Korean zombies. Why does no one make something with both?

In related news, yes, I watched Heartstopper. It reminded me a lot of the YA Book Boy Meets Boy, even though there is more stress around coming out and social acceptance in this. It is sweet and fluffy and happy for the middle and high schoolers who get to have something so warm and fluffy to watch.

Also in related news, I thought I was out of of Korean zombies, but I found another one hiding on Tubi. It means commercials (Yuck), but it also means I have Korean historical drama zombies to watch before bed. (I have seen Train to Busan, Peninsula, Seoul Station, Alive, All of Us are Dead, kingdom, and the kingdom prequel. I just started Rampant. Other suggestions? At this point I will happily branch out into other quality Asian zombies.

Similarly, Queer People Having Adventures suggestions? I have seen Black Sails. Trust me, my Byzantine Black Sails exegesis is still out there. I have seen Our flag. I have seen a TON of classic queer cinema. I watched Torchwood. Over and Over. Genres: historical drama, comedy adventure, Science Fiction, fantasy. suggestions?

“The American regime has committed an extremely unfriendly act,” said Social Democrat MP Karl Lauterbach, who said that German health workers on the front lines — as well as people around the world — needed to have access to something developed in Germany, and that no country should be able to purchase exclusive access to the vaccine.

You put in a system like my state has where if there is an issue with your ballot, they contact you. It's easier and faster. No lines. Super easy for the poor, workers, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

And it solves that whole tons of people breathing pathogens on each other thing that is a big fucking problem for people with bodies like mine.

Seriously y'all! Coronavirus is fucking with the election. Let's get it sorted nationwide by November.

"But the N.L.R.B., whose five members are nominated by the president to serve staggered five-year terms, had the power to overrule Esposito. With two Trump appointees in the majority, the board ordered the judge to approve the settlement by a vote of two to one. (A fourth board member didn’t participate in the decision; the fifth seat was vacant at the time.) One of the two N.L.R.B. members who overruled Esposito, William J. Emanuel, was a former partner at Littler Mendelson, the firm McDonald’s hired to give legal advice to franchisees, but declined to recuse himself. Trump’s chairman of the N.L.R.B., John F. Ring, whose former firm also advised McDonald’s on the Fight for $15, later issued an unprecedented report finding that each N.L.R.B. member could “insist on participating” in a case even if the agency’s own ethics officials said otherwise. In response to my questions about the case, McDonald’s sent a statement: “McDonald’s and its franchisees agreed to resolve the proceeding in a manner that provides 100 percent of the remedies that those employees were eligible to receive under the National Labor Relations Act.”"

* I managed to catch Elder Kitty easily and lock her in her room, but the Imperial couple strenuously resisted corralling. The hope was they'd run for my room when the Invaders came. Tavy did. Livia darted into the desk corner I can;t reach and so was forced to hide there until I came out for the bathroom during contractor lunch time. She willingly returned to the room for afternoon session.

When I came out in the evening it was to chaos. Apparently they spent part of the time doing Squirrel's drywall, the rest on starting to replace my bathroom walls and putting in real faucets in the bathroom. The third wall, the surround, the shower kit, the dry walling stuff, a massive amount of tools and equipment are now completely filling the space between my living room table and the window. I barely managed to close the window. There wasn't a chance of me working on anything by the benches tonight. There is painting stuff piled on the patio.

I didn't even try to move any furniture back including the ca tboxes, as there seemed no point. One can only hope the little assholes are using them and not going in the debris.

It really is nearly finished though.

The millennial dropped off some supplies in the morning, so I should be okay this week.

* I got rear ended at a different intersection while trying to take Greenwick home. It was nearly the same accident. We were the second car at a light. The person in front braked due to a hazard in the intersection. We braked. The guy behind me had his brakes lock up and rammed us good. I'm in a stunning amount of pain. I'm on the bubble as to whether I should go to a doctor tomorrow. The car has a mysterious rattle, some more bumper damage, and damage more damage to the bumper brackets, but my car is mostly fine. The other car though? Jesus fucking Christ! The front end crumpled like it was made of paper. He had picked his kid up from an after school thing and was rushing home for dinner. The most important thing is that the boy wasn't hurt. The second is that he got to see a bunch of people acting link grown-ups over a car accident, including some good citizens who witnessed the accident and waited more than an hour for a cop plus all the extra time for him to gather data and write it up. It a good thing to model or someone who will be driving in a few years, that in a stressful situation, sensible people can behave decently to each other. We exchanged info and accident stories; we marveled over the extent of his damage; we laughed as he picked bits of my bumper stickers out of what was left of his grill.

I am rather glad I hadn't quite gotten around to fixing the bumper.

Now there's even more exhausting bureaucracy and errands to do. Sigh. But no one was seriously hurt and that's the main thing.

It sounds really romantic, until you remember the King in question was pro-NAZI in the 1930's. People were literally being herded into death camps and he was using what power and influence that was left to the English crown to push the British Government to support Hitler. I don't think being literally pro-NAZI is even vaguely romantic. Sorry, I just don't. Imagine what it would have been like to have a Hitler partisan on the throne while Germany marched across Europe, giving pro-NAZI speeches and stirring people up to vote for Mosely and his ilk. Eeeeeew! I'm glad he abdicated and went into exile; I'm just sorry he didn't take the Union of British fascists with him. (Or was it British Union of fascists? The name changed at some point). This is not Godwin's Law: These are actual fascists, actually pro-Hitler, actual pro-genocide people. So pardon me if I'm not jumping on the Wallis Simpson nostalgia train. I suppose she is a heroine, in that she got that disgusting pig Edward VIII off the throne, but the idea of him as a romantic lead makes me queasy, and I don't want to picture what she did to make that happen. "Over the course of the 2010-2011 school year, 700 students were evaluated for serious mental-health issues, including hospitalizations for depression and suicide attempts. Kids flooded school counselors' offices, which reported an explosion of children engaging in dangerous behaviors like cutting or asphyxiating each other in the "choking game."

I think it's an evil sort of irony that laws designed to encourage bullying and specifically to harm a group of children are always promoted as protecting children. This is why I hate so-called "neutrality laws" as they always favour bullies.

Please, if this sort of thing is happening to you or your child, document it and the school's refusal to act, and get a lawyer. Lawsuits are often the only way to turn a school district like that around. It's better to sue before someone dies or is assaulted. * I spent all afternoon doing preliminary stuff on the hand surgery. There is only a 5% chance of cancer, but it's rapid growing and in a really annoying location. It means most of a week with only my walking hand and crappy hygiene, but not having the growth will be worth it in the long run. Anyway, it's scheduled for the 13tth. No word yet on the vastly more dangerous spinal surgery.

* In the first waiting room, I sat across from an elderly gentleman and his wife as they tried to fill out forms. They tried to remember when he he quit smoking. 1974? 1975? '76? And other dates of the like. He commented to me on how hard it was. I agreed and explained I carried all my pertinent medical documents with me in my medical bag as it was always a struggle to remember which procedure was when, medications, and the like, hence the messenger bag. He agreed that was wise.

* Among the things the Republicans want to cut is cutting meals on Wheels to home bound seniors. Letting sick old people starve to death is just one of the many sacrifices we are asked to make for the bonus tax cuts to the ultra rich.

* Trump, though unwilling to accept Barak Obama's certificate of live birth, when challenged to produce his own, produced the wrong document, a hospital certificate of live birth, that unlike Mr. Obama's official document is not usable for things like passports.

* There's been a second injunction against the illegally passed Wisconsin Union stripping Law barring publishing and implementation. Walker still says he's enforcing it and will be cutting next week's paychecks on the strength of it.

* Michigan is paying for it's economy slowing giveaways to corporations by cutting economy improving unemployment benefits. This is intended to magically help unemployment even though every dollar they are cutting is worth $1.60 to economic growth. I do not understand why slowing economic growth is meant to reduce unemployment. It of cource is also cruel.

* Similarly, Congressional Republicans plan to cut food stamps, which will cause people to starve while also slowing growth to pay for their tax cuts for the rich. Of course, the best their budget will do is slow the GDP by 3% and the economic damage could be considerably worse.

We've tried dramatically shifting resources from the poor and middle class to the rich for the last decade. To no surprise to the economists, this has done damage to the economy, what with people not being able to afford stuff. If people can't afford stuff, the jobs involved in making and selling that stuff go away, those people then can't buy things like food and the jobs making and selling that stuff go away. This process is clearly understood and there's plenty of real worlds recent data backing that up. Then, none of these people can pay taxes.

This is economic 101stuff, things easily explained to high schoolers and college freshmen. It seems to me that as it's so easily understood and well documented, that the only excuse for the Republican budget is that they are trying to deliberately destroy the economic system of the United state to benefit their corporate masters with no care for the large scale misery and long term damage they are doing.

* The Syrian government resigned. O.o

* In Libya, government forces are kidnapping teenaged girls. As they are not being returned, details of their captivity are not available, but I suspect ugly things are happening, especially as they were also rounding up women at check points for gang rape.

* The new pill should fit seamlessly into my existing med schedule. There are reasons to expect it will improve quality of life, so i am not particularly worried.

* Today in the forage line, I was in front of a tall, clean cut, very fit looking man who growled incredibly violent, explicit, specific, and creative threats against the women and children in the line along with muttered misogynistic rants. Charming. I must be reading male today, as none of the threats were aimed at me, though his body language expressed impatience at my lameness. He told a child between the ages of one and two about his plans to dismember and decapitate her. This was not playful, but delivered in a heart felt growl. The women in charge of her snatched her close. His threats against the women were neither sexual nor racist, but deeply disturbingly misogynistic. I kept a subtle eye on him, as did the rough looking, but polite, perceptive, and chivalrous gentleman in front of me. I figured he'd likely step in if the guy behind me tried to hurt anyone. I am not much use in a fight any more, but I was resolved to try if it came to it. It did not. It was a very long hour, not helped by being rained on.

* Breakout Kings has really grown on me.

* Today I started the first season of White Collar, I'm already liking it better than I did trying to jump in in the middle. I have two entirely personal issues with the leads that have nothing at all to do with their talent, the quality of writing, or anything else, just little things to do with old associations. It's stuff I can very likely get over, and I'll have a clearer idea if the show is worth watching for me after I've seen a few more episodes. It is unfortunately opposite something else I watch in my time zone, but the other show being Canadian, only appears in limited runs, so I can watch them in the gaps, though likely not in proper season order.

* Watching Kucinich and Weiner debate the intervention in Libya was like listening to the debate in my head. O.o

* In Syria, the government send men to beat protesters to death over the weekend.

* Newt Gingrich says we should vote for him because the atheists are taking over and planning to let the country to be dominated by radical Islamic extremists. O.o He shows no sign of understanding how utterly illogical and delusional that sounds. Atheists by definition wouldn't want Shariah Law. Um... duh. Perhaps he should look up Atheism in the dictionary. Or Islam. Is someone so ignorant, delusional, or hypocritical that he accuses Atheists of being pro-theocracy really suited to high office?

* Trump is now justifying his birther stance on the grounds that no one has come forward remembering the birth of a random baby in Hawaii more than forty years ago. All the documents are no proof. What are the chances anyone involved in my delivery remembers my birth specifically all these years later? Yours? It's not like they knew he was going to be president.

* Lawrence O'Donnell has pointed out there is more proof of Obama's birth in Hawaii (birth certificate, period announcements in the paper, and personal memory of the Governor of Hawaii who was friends with his parents), than there is of Lawrence O'Donnell's own birth.. Come to thgi8nk of it, there is more proof of Obama being a natural born citizen than there is of my own Mother's birth. She happened to be born in service member family housing in DC during WWII, so they didn't issue birth certificates, lest the NAZIs use them to figure out how many families were housed there. Instead, she has a proof of citizenship saying that she was born in American, but vague on the details. Of course, Lawrence O'Donnell, my mother, and Donald trump are all white, so above questioning by birthers.

* Gov. Walker's Union Stripping bill was supposed to cut 6% from the budget, yet actually will add 1%. "Budget repair" my hairy ass.

* Even though the law was passed illegally, is under a stay while the courts decide if the illegal vote makes it law, and not published by the office that publishes official laws, they are already "adjusting" pay checks to reflect it. * I finished Late Eclipses. hardly any spoilers: )

I am really looking forward to the next one as the teaser was mad entirely of win.

* I spent all morning waiting for a tow truck that was meant to come 9-11. It arrived 12:30ish. Of course. I still feel like crap, which isn't helping. Also, how the fuck did I sprain an ankle in my sleep? The cop car coming to tax the poor with tickets for parking in front of their own homes trolled by just after the tow truck left. It was a close one. I wasn't able to salvage my car stereo this time, which seriously sucks, but the flu and fiances made rescuing it impossible.

* I really miss the car and it's only been gone since one. Rest in peace, Chevy Celebrity, you served well.

* Deusabscondum came last night and we ended up watching Velvet Goldmine and Lion in Winter Accidental gay culture movie night.

* I am fascinated to see how this intervention in Libya will play out, particularly if the French take the lead, given their own problematic history in north Africa. *cough* Algeria *cough* I am also waiting to see how the Arab League ends up responding, as that makes a huge difference one way or another. A mostly NATO intervention is one thing; and Aarab league/NATO intervention is something entirely different.

The UN has declared Libya in violation of the resolution because they are still shelling civilians.

Reports that the four reporters were freed turn out to be false.

* In Yemen, they are shooting unarmed, fleeing people in the head. In Bahrain, government attacks on Doctors and the wounded continue. The government is killing protesters in Syria.

* In Japan, their experts are arguing with international experts on what to do next.

* A judge has imposed a temporary injunction on them stripping union rights in Wisconsin. We'll see how it works out. After all, it would be unfair to tax proportionally when you can punish the working poor.

* The latest Conservative backed poll is showing 63% of Wisconsinites want Walker to compromise. Meanwhile, the ethics violation case moves forward against Walker, and they have about half the names they need to hold recall election on five Republican senators. The Republicans pulled all the budgetary stuff out of their budget bill, leaving only the provisions to strip rights from Unions, and passed it without allowing 24 hours notice or Amendments in violation of the open meetings law. Democrats are contacting the state Attorney General in the hopes of blocking the law on the grounds that it was passed illegally, but I'm not sanguine as the AG is also Republican.

Really, I can't see much in the way of winning without recall elections. There is no point in negotiating with someone who has proved he won't bargain in good faith. Walker's said outright he is willing to win by any means necessary, including lying and dirty tricks, and the legislative tactics are ugly and now outright illegal. I don't think they can trust anything Republicans tell them at this point.
