Republicans are lying that this is a sweet heart deal. It's slightly more harsh than the average citizen. Meanwhile they are lying that Drumpf is somehow being persecuted unfairly for being investigated for a bunch of geometrically worse crimes related to various attempts to overthrow the US government where he either was caught on tape of publicly admitted them or where there is a mountain of evidence and where he doesn't get hand cuffed or mug shots or have to spend time in jail pending arraignment, and where the FBI and DOJ foot dragged and refused to even consider investigating for over a year, because those institutions don't believe that there should be equal treatment under the law for Drumpf. The Republicans agree with him that he should be allowed to shoot people in broad daylight with no consequences so even the most deferential treatment and mild consequences are unfair.

Yes, Hunter Biden made some bad decisions, mostly around his addiction, but this is penny ante stuff. He didn't kill anybody, or take bribes while in public office, or steal classified documents to compromise national security, or repeatedly try to overthrow the government. The disparity in the way Drumf is being treated vs any normal person doing similar things is massive, but Republicans are pretending that the scandal is that Hunter Biden is only getting slightly harsher than average treatment for the minor stuff he did and not being changed with the imaginary crimes they want him to have committed, and not Drumpf getting all these extra privileges.

* My garden makes me happy, tiny as it is. I love the way it smells of basil and tomato leaves and rosemary and spearmint. I love the lushness of it compared to the sterile looking landscaping management insists on. It feels like the glorious chaos of nature fighting back every time seeds blow out of my container garden and sprout amongst the deliberately barren patches beyond my porch border. I love being surrounded by green and all those vegetable plant flowers.

This is already shaping up to be the best year ever for my tiny strawberry patch. I likely would have been the best year for asparagus, judging from the early growth, but the compost sprouted such an abundance of other things that I fear the asparagus hasn't a chance. Maybe next year. The day after New Millennial brought over the Pride Pinwheel they painted, my beloved carnations started blooming. Some of the early tomatoes are already growing on the bigger plants, which gives me hopes of this year being as good as last year for tomatoes.

* Tuesday, I met the new, alas temporary Doctor. Today's medical theme was arthritis. For those following along, but medical records are on the scale of the complete unabridged writings of Aquinas, as it's impossible for anyone to get a handle on them quickly, so we are doing a series of appointments each centered on a major theme to help get things on track.

I have warned her about the opiods and anti-psychotics both artificially inducing hallucinations and paranoia in people of my family and how it happened to me post surpery in percacet last year so she'll know if I get in a car accident and start hallucinating so they give me an anti-pscotic which together may induce psychotic break. Brains are fun.

I have a new replacement referral for the wheelchair/mobility assessment. It turns out there is now literally one allergy doctor with a tiny practice left in the whole city, which is why we are all so fucked. Peacehealth closed two other essential specialties in which they had a monopoly, fucking over all those patients too, the bastards. she's going to check our county and the county just south for me. It's worth blowing my medical transport credits on. They just way upped the limit anyway.

Medical science has moved forward a lot in the last 10-15 years. One of the early rheums said I likely had fibromyalgia, but it wasn't worth pursuing as medicare didn't believe in it and the treatment would be the same as my way easier to document arthritis and visible to the naked eye spinal damage.

So we are trying a new class of meds to see if I can tolerate them without my brain and/or body flipping out, as so often happens when one introduces new meds to it. I'm at a sub clinical dose to test tolerance, but I can feel the difference. I also feel a bit peculiar, though I'm adjusting.

Long time readers know the drill. I am weird, but if you spot anything obviously weird for me, way off my usual sort of postings, nonsense, irrationality, that sort of thing, give me a heads up that new meds may be driving me off the rails. Squirrel and my usual chat buddies know the drill and I'll let the millennials know what to watch for. Odds are it will be fine. I'm more likely to get stopped by physical side effects on this one, but it's always good to have more spotters.

* Wednesday, Squirrel lent us his cat for errands and then we hug out. We are still looking for a better sobriquet for New Millennial. Head Millennial will henceforth be called Goth Millennial.

* I managed to get a few hours of sleep which was not nearly enough, but very much better than no sleep. Squirrel's car wouldn't go, so we couldn't take it. It turned out to be just as well. a Squirrel friend came over and it turns out to be something he can fix tomorrow himself. I made it exactly on time, as it they were unlocking the doors as I pulled in. They estimated an hour when they figured in cooling time so they wouldn't burn themselves. The actual work of cutting a new cable etc. and installing it was half an hour which sounds right given the car's anatomy. I had tea in their waiting room then went and joined the line just in time to catch a bench spot sitting down. I got the last open spot when they came with the Car, so that too was a win. The fix it price was under estimate, but not by much. I scraped it together, but the insurance auto-draw is now imperiled as well as a bill not paid to make it work. I'll check when things clear to see how bad, but my current shortage is likely in the 120.00 range. Part of that is legitimately my fault for buying... was it toilet paper, meds, and litter? at the beginning of the month. I remember the meds were extra high as I had to buy a sliding scale thing on top of the covered and small copay things. the sliding scale thing was a 6ish month supply, but one has to buy it all at once since it's a tube instead of pills or ampules. I'm going try to get it together to set up an auction over the weekend. I'm far too tired to do it properly today and tomorrow will be the same.

Anyway, I made copies of some useful lineage charts at the library before returning Margaret of York, luckily they fit on two legal sized pages. I got food away, messed with the garden, and a tank cleaned before it got too hot to move about much. I made good progress on the big box of late '90's Vertigos before I reached the "I can't stand another minute point. I filled up a the dinner meds organizer with a month's worth of doses. First meal ended up being bread and the last of the snack nuts as it was too hot and I was too tired by that point to make anything. I feel like I did pretty well for three hours of sleep in the unkindest season as far as my body is concerned.

- Chain of Command (parts 1 & 2 Combined). How to undermine crew morale and battle readiness. It is particularly hard watching TNG Ferengi in the current political climate. I had somehow misremembered this as being in season seven, so wasn't emotionally braced for it, Picard's torture and interrogation being strongly reminiscent of my childhood interrogations, because it was the first thing I ever saw that got that it is fundamentally about getting the victim to agree to the lie, a that is how they break us. At the same time this episode was much of the impetus for the rewatch, as a quarter of a century late it still haunts me. This time I am thinking about how this trauma interacts with his earlier violation at the hands of the Borg. I had honestly forgotten how philosophical this is. I do appreciate the ethical discussion. The mind games are always the hardest to watch for me. Picard's defiance and cleverness speaks to me on the deepest level. When this first aired, this was not a thought I was capable of having, but now I am pleased that he voluntarily went for therapy at the end.

* I am disappointed in Dirk Gently. I adore Douglas Adams and I keep wanting someone to make a good adaptation of really any of his things. I love the Dirk Gently books and they seemed ideal to adapt. I thought they could start from the ones that exist, plus the fragment and spin out from there, once they'd established the world. Instead, they've put the books as back story and are doing Dirk Gently in Seattle. It's not terrible like the mess
Hollywood made out of Hitchhikkers, but it's not what I wanted. Dirk Gently is not the Dirk gently in my head. There are lines and elements I recognize, and it is clearly vaguely inspired by the books, but it's not Douglas Adams, just fragments of him embedded in something else.

I wrote that hours ago, but it is still astonishing me. The thought process had to have been: The main audience for a Dirk Gently TV Show is clearly people who want to see the books turned into a TV Show, so why don't we make a show called Dirk Gently, but refuse to adapt the books. Surely people tuning in specifically to watch an adaptation of the books would prefer we didn't.

Unusual world design, didn't go the way I expected from the set up (It looked like once she meets the vampire it was going to be standard tropey supernatural romance, but it veered off quickly for something way more interesting), rare supernatural genre novel where poverty constantly is a Thing, and strong Woc protagonist. I'm worried that the rest of the series will ruin it, but I'm going to cross my fingers and hope it doesn't head where I'm worried it might. I'd love for this time to be different.

* Republicans Promise to Gut Social Security if Elected in 2016. Jeb Bush and Chris Christie are coming out strongly in favour of cutting back already inadequate social security benefits and raising the eligibility age under the pretense that social security is insolvent even though it objectively isn't and a simpler fix to would be to repeal the Republican "reform" that capped social security contributions so the wealthy don't have to pay the same percentage of what they make as the other 99%. Remember, in the current economy, ever dollar spent on social security is worth about 1.50 in economic activity and tax revenue for the government. By contrast, give aways to the wealthy such as tax cuts are only worth .30 on the dollar. As a result, going back to the old system and using that money to give the elderly enough money every month to actually live on is not just fair (they paid in their whole lives), compassionate (allowing the elderly to live in dignity intend of scrambling for subsistence), it is sound economic policy that helps the whole community by increasing local economic activity and creating jobs. Give aways to the wealthy only suck money out of the economy, so why not simply ask the wealthy to pay the same percentage in taxes everyone else pays? But no. Instead the republicans would like your parents and grandparents to work themselves to death or become homeless because protecting the .1% from paying their share of anything is their only priority for economic policy. It's 2015 and they are still running presidential candidates on the Mitt Romney vulture capitalist gut the economy to pay the .1% model.

* Meanwhile, John Beohner, incensed that the 1% still need to pay taxes when they inherit their billions floated a bill to abolish estate tax for the 1% entirely, but don't worry, this will only carve a 20 billion dollar whole in the budget and those of us not born millionaires or billionaires will still be paying our inheritance tax. After all, Republicans believe that while those working full time at back breaking jobs don't deserve a living wage or enough healthy food to eat, people who have never done a real day of work and benefit from workers not being paid what they are worth need to be protected from paying anything back into the system they are robbing. After all, the government not only subsidizes the very rich by taxing them the least, they subsidize the corporations they own by letting the corporations they own not pay their workers fairly, thus causing the government to have to make up the difference in things like Food stamps/EBT. And yet, somehow it's not the rich and the corporate welfare cheats that get demonized, but the working poor who can't survive on $8.00 and hour.
