* Our ballots came Friday, I've voted (using the drop box in front of the court house). The rest of halloween is sorted out, except for me needing to do a couple more sweeps for burnt out bulbs. We had two strings short ou, which is normal, and as is also normal, many older bulbs die either when we first pug in or in the next few days. I did an outside sweep today while it was still light out and later in the evening I saw one out. There are several inside, but that's a more involved and dangerous process, so it's likely Tuesday's problem.

The stuff I ordered for the pets with my birthday money came in and I've installed them. The one under the living room box really needed a change These pads turned out a lot smaller, but of the correct type. Once the dirty one's bee washed I plan to use the big pair on the sofa except during washing, and the smaller ones under the accident box, as those really need frequent changes. I now have an emergency back up filter for the tanks. During cleaning I discovered where Tavy had hidden the missing parts for the 30's filter, but the 20 was the one being changed today, so they are switched, but this is likely Wednesday's problem.

The apartment is much closer to clean and though I decided to skip putting up a few things, it looks like Gothmas here in the Cat Asylum, which makes a huge difference both aesthetically and to morale. I was having trouble getting into the Gothmas season spirit, but now everything feels much closer to the way it should. Squirrel really loves coming home to the lights and he loves just looking at Halloween town and the Gothmas trees. I often sit with the other lights off for a while before bed and simply enjoy the interior decorations, the way my late father used to with the Christmas tree.

We were and Addams family sort of family and Halloween was really big at our house when I was growing up, my mom sewing costumes, my dad giving out candy in his ghoul costume, my sister and i in our make up and home made cosumes moving quietly up behind the plastic Halloweeners at doors so they'd panic when they saw us there behind them waiting for our turn at the and bowl. Once I was old enough to take my sister and her friends, I would map out the routes in advance so we could hit the most houses, dropping off our loot twice. Once we dropped off her friends, we'd go with empty sacks to the rich houses to the north.

I love all of it, the decorations, the kids in costumes, the monster movies, the sense of fun in the air. I hate that kids are getting robbed of this Halloween by a plague and our malevolent White House Occupant. I plan to put candy out in bowls with a sign saying one bowl's worth per kids. Even without the plague we don't get many, but if any of the complex kids do turn up there will be candy in the skeleton's lap for them. I have a set of dollar store bowls I don't mind losing if someone steals them.

Anyway, I am exhausted and in pain, hence the weird posting schedule. I have online stuff including the birthday zoom party this weekend, which will eat my time and my brains. hopefully I will have more spoons sometime next week, just in time for physio to start.

* Tuesday: We're extending my antibiotic an extra few days, which makes sense. I was really bad today, but this evening I'm noticeably improved, if still ugh. It's a slow process.

In a renovation plot twist, the toilets arrived unexpectedly, so we now have gorgeous new, properly installed toilets that do not leak or wobble.

Livia and Tavy hid all day in her favorite hide. They heard the Strangers leaving and e making it's safe sounds, so when I looked down their two little anxious faces were peering up at me. i wish I could have taken a picture.

Squirrel and I voted today, as the ballots came in the mail. It was the periodic referendum for school funding and infrastructure upgrade funding. I always vote yes for school and infrastructure funding, in case you were curious.

Remember Folks, vote in every primary and election, no matter how small.

* Wednesday: I did do a bunch of prep and reading Tuesday night, but had to lie down rather suddenly and couldn't post all I had to tumblr, let alone finish off the dreamwidth aggregation.

Today was the dentist, nice older lady I hadn't seen before, who I heard refer to me as a "very good patient" and cool as a cucumber. It was a pretty easy cavity, towards the front and not deep. I'm scheduled for a free revision on the problematic molar in March which I'm looking forward to getting solved.

It was a pretty chill day here at the cat asylum. The emperor was not best pleased by me leaving the bed. The Empress ate her shreds without drama and has been alternating snack/pettins/ sofa back lounging, with sitting in the living room window. She would very much like the Gazebo bird show to come out of hiatus, but he wind is putting on a decent show, so it's not so bad.

So apparently an oversized extended bowl toilet is definitely an improvement. Props to the guy who wrote up the specs for getting me some. I made sure squirrel had the new key before h went to work. I still need to test them myself properly, but my foot is terrible today, so it'll have to wait.

* The lung infection is ramping back up, but I need to hold on until the 29th for medical care. I came out to do lungs and sat in cat pee. She peed into the crack between the other two cushions, all the way to the canvass, so I got to clean both of the other two. This time, I'm trying vinegar and odoban. I wrote this at 7:45 and I've already used most of today's spoons on cat pee.

While I was doing lungs, the neighbor kids were having a water pistol fight in the courtyard. After they finished, they came and peered in my window, the girl crossing the landscape strip to stare right up close. Normally, I'd be horrified, but I know they are huge Livia fan and I think they were concerned she wasn't in her window watching the birds going to bed show.

Don't have money, but still want to help? Volunteer. Campaigns need lots of people to do all kinds of work.

Don't have a Presidential Primary Candidate but still want to help? Try looking down ticket. Have a strong opinion about who should represent you in Congress? Volunteer or donate to them. Who represents you in your State Government is going to determine redistricting. Don't want your state so gerrymandered that you lose all your representation? Volunteer/Donate for State senators/Reps/Whatever you like. Want someone who has your values with veto power in your state? Volunteer/donate to Gubernatorial Candidate. Care about Clean water to drink, whether your Schools teach science in science class, and whether your local justice system favors mental health/drug diversion or just locking people up and taxing the poor? That's your City government.

Don't have particular candidate you like yet, but you want to help save Democracy, Civil rights, human Rights, the environment, etc.? Contact the local branch of the party and ask them what they need.

You aren't helpless, but we're running short of time to turn this mess around.

And now my beloved fish store burned. The scratchy things weren't where they had been so I walked through most of the store looking. I wish I'd walked through all of it, but i had so few spoons left. Fuckfuckfuck. I don't want it to be gone.

* Today my body tried to pull a soft veto, but I had a Dentist appointment and the Library couldn't wait. It was overcast and people were driving a little desperately Downtown. Everywhere was crowed. There was no close parking anywhere. My body is still not all that great. I'm well enough to drive. (It's a thing I can do sitting down that doesn't rely on the small muscles that things like, say sewing do). I was really, really not well enough to stand in a long forage line and do all the extra walking because no free close parking. To get anything close enough for walking to even pe possible involved wasting gas circling blocks. Add in my lungs keep getting worse. I think I am infected, but that the smoke/allergen situation is causing large fluctuations in function, which made the underlying up until this evening mild congestion look like left overs.

Odds are I will be fucked tomorrow, because those were tomorrow's spoons.

I am pretty sure it's bacterial. I am now trying to decide if I take the antibiotics I have from that time I started improving over the weekend instead of deteriorating, or if I try to get an appointment with a floater who won't know my file, or if I make an appointment for next month with the Good doctor. I don't think I can handle fish Store smoke if I go Walk In. Not with my lungs starting to pancake batter. Or the traffic. Or looking at the likely dead fish and lndie record store as I do past.

I am so tired. I realized last night that I've started sounding a little like a rage infected from 28 days Later. If I do this, I'll have to go off my arthritis meds for most of a week. It's really starting to feel like worth it.

Anyway, I did do library, pharmacy, bank, Pay the Small Bill, and get fish food and the replacement for the scratchy thing ruined... was it last month?

I can barely move now. I'm mostly working at the news because bed prep is exhausting and I don't relish how bad my lungs will be when I lie down.

If I get any worse in the next couple hours I'm taking the pills. I can likely get away with first dose even with the arthritis meds in my system.

The Dentist was really long. They got me in the room on time, but there was a scheduling snafu. (They scheduled me for the wrong appointment type, so the hygienist was free, but the dentist was tied up). We did a fancy new whole mouth x-ray that really fucking hurt with my AS, but the pics were fascinating. After she took that and a bunch of extra small x-rays of my front teeth, we just sat and chatted.

She was my ageish with three adult kids (the youngest barely) and amazing hair. My chart lists me trans, so she barely even did a test question before getting into politics. She too is freaked out and furious at 45.

It was get another new dentist. This one I'm dubbing "The Blond." He was quick and competent and took that thing I've been having trouble with since they did the filling in the upper right back molar seriously. He's doing a revision and the usual small cavities from my meds. This will take me into early October.

* In the first half of March, I suspected I had contracted a persistent, annoying low grade infection at some point. This is a normal thing that happen A LOT with people who have the kind of chronic illness I have. (I've also been having hives and mouth ulcers off an one since whatever week the lung emergency started, which is also a normal, extremely unpleasant thing that happens some times with a body like mine. I only mention this because it's particularly fucking bad tonight, and also having two of these bits of nastiness going on is geometrically unpleasant.) Nothing could be done about the infection because my Doctor was booked more than a month out. She took the usual symptom history and sample. I said I was pretty sure it was bacterial, but I'd wait for results instead of starting on the assumption I was right as this thing isn't ramping, it's persisting and the best fit antibiotic is Nasty. If it were something I thought might ramp, I take home the antibiotics and put them on a shelf until I know how it's going to go either from tests or sudden scary ass escalation. Thursday early evening tests came in. I was right again on it being Bacterial. (I am good at thing particular guessing game.)

Today I picked up the Monster antibiotic, listened carefully to the warnings and swore a solemn oath to take all the little bastards. This one has an ugly set of warnings. I've disconned my non-narcotic arthritis meds, which means I get a choice of Tylenol or opioids and nothing the fuck in between for a long ugly week. I need to watch the fuck out of what I eat, because of a hidden ingredient issue that can lead to me having a night from hell if I miss something. I was about 5 1/2 hours in when I wrote this and had already maxed out the anti-nausea meds.

This is going to be a rough ride. It needed to be done though as Thursday evening I spotted the warning signs of a ramp up and it was unpleasant enough by Friday morning that waiting the weekend was out of the question. I'm going to have to white knuckle it.

* I got about three hours of sleep because I had no choice but to get food, since most of the things my stomach is currently accepting were missing at least one ingredient. This was bad because this was day two of what is turning out to be an impressively bad AS flare. Gas first, then what turned out to be an exhausting and not particularly useful forage. Then the North loop for restocking of basic ingredients, then local grocery for a couple things they don't have at the cheap, ethical grocery store. Then home where I had to gimp it all in myself one armed, since squirrel was having radical insomnia and it wouldn't be right to wake him when he'd finally just managed sleep. I also had to change the fireplace tank because it was overdue and couldn't wait a few more days for Gothmas break down to finish, and best to spill and wipe up water first, than to hve fish water in everything,

Today I dragged all the storage boxes out and cleared the closet generally. Onto my bed. There was an exhausting wrangling of flats. As I write this, my bed is still full of boxes and there are stacks of them eating my tiny living room. Trying to get the bedroom window lights down ended up having to be a whole Thing involving storage reorganization which definately needed to happen and led to me finding some things that had gone walkabout, but added more boxes to my bed, ate spoons, and created chaos. Oh, and I dropped an end, shattering a bulb in the approximate area Livia destroyed my Tesla Globe. I keep sweeping and sweeping, but I know full well I'm going to end up with glass in my foot at some point in the next week. My lungs hate all of this by the way.

I came out and sorted the storage boxes in prep for breaking down Halloween town and the trees. The first thing I picked up was the DS-9 space station. My hand tipped and a ship fell. And disappeared. Of course it did. I moved things. No ship. I swept and sorted through the trash three times, no ship. Sigh.

I have this all set up to do modularly over the course of several nights. Hahahahaha! No.

I take apart the the things that have to go in small protective boxes with Styrofoam first, because it's both more efficient for packing them in the big boxes with smaller less fragile things as fill, and because those things are fairly easy to lift out of the display without getting into the rat's nests the trees become. I get the big Halloween village pieces and the associated little pieces into their boxes. The pumpkin is away. I get up to pull the crystal icicles from the mantle, carefully picking them out of the wiring and balls. I have just sat down and got the bubble wrap ready when big tree goes over. I hadn't touched it. I had no chance to get up and save it. I couldn't hve made it around the living roo table even if this wasn't a day when every second standing is agony and my legs barely obey. It flattened the wee white tree (which was literally from the dollar store and very bendy, so unharmed), smushed the side of the big tree and sent big tree ornaments flying. Amoung the casualties were two of my beloved dark purple glass ornaments with glitter spider webs. Dammit. A legacy bear from wee white tree lost his head, but I'll likely be able to fix it next year. Another of the particularly pretty electric blue glass balls with snowflakes died too.

I couldn't leave it like that as it could easily roll off the side and smash. All attempt to stand it up failed, as the balanced was completely borked by the crushed side and too many flying ornaments from one side. Which meant I had to stand there in an astonishing amount of pain and carefully unhook all the lights and support rope one handed (the other holding the damned thing up) so I could sit on the floor with it and take all the lights and ornaments apart. except I couldn't because I couldn't get the one purple connecting light to disconnect one handed from that angle like at all. I did manage to get it loose enough to reach the floor eventually. Only my water and the remote were nowhere near and I literally couldn't leave until I was in the middle of a nest of dis-guarded lighting and ornaments. I very much wished I'd taken a good pain pill before the crash, but I had not. Ooops. Stuck now. Oh, and a bunch of smaller branches and one larger one are now off my irreplaceable big Halloween tree and a major branch is cracked.

It was now 10:30ish. The problem is, once you have that many glass and fragile ornaments lying around you, you are committed until it's sorted out. *facepalm* I had everything but the window lights sorted and rationally packed by about 1:30AM. I needed to sweep for glass again, so I did that. If I took down window lights, I could put all the boxes away and have my bed and living room back. So I took the front window lights down, packed it all up, and put it away. I then broke down all the spare boxes I had from not knowing how the integrated collection would fit together with the things in storage and stowed the flats. Finally! Only not. I'd forgotten the ones in the livingroom from when I realized I needed a larger box from the bedroom instead of two small ones. Flattened and stowed. Only... fuck! I hadn't done the exterior lights when I did bedroom window because boxes were in the way of egress.

Those are officially tomorrow's problem. I think they may fit in Halloween exterior decorations bin, which would be dramatically less work than any other option. Sigh. I have swept bedroom and livingroom again, but am still expecting a glass landmine. Also, I'm kind of bummed out that my Mummy lights are dying. They are permanently installed over the livingroom window and were a gift my first or second Gothmas here. They are LED and like the TARDIS lights designed not to be replaceable.

So that's why Thursday's news is barely touched.

* When Squirrel is at work, LM generally spends her whole evening with me on Mache's old Pettin Throne. When he's home, she spends most of the evening with him, coming out periodically to patrol, graze kibble or the like. She gets pettins between naps. Some time a little before 5AM she generally wanders off to do cat things before coming back for her long pettin and a nap between 5AM and 6AM until her Squirrel comes home to feed her her morning goosh.

Last weekend I noticed her turning up between 5AM and 6AM when Squirrel was home. That's her one on one pettin time with me apparently.

One of the many, many things I miss about Mache was her co-piloting when I was at my desk. They are very different cats personality wise, but I love having LM there as a co-pilot.

* Last night I did manage to do the first segment of an office clean and the fireplace 20 tank. Today I foraged, attempted bureaucracy with mixed results (apparently an office I needed goes to lunch at 2PM. Those poor employees!), hit the pharmacy, and the library. Annoyingly only one prescription was ready.

I also finished dishes and did the first and easiest segment of the bureaucracy packet. (Next stop? The dreaded document sort and scavenger hunt). I caught up the solstice Readings. My headache is down to normal pain levels from last night's unacceptable high, and the queasiness is manageable, though still well above normal levels. The list of phone bureaucracy keeps growing, and a lot of it is east Coast business hours or alternately the weird truncated day that some places have here designed either to save money and/or get workers home in time to greet their kids off the school bus, always a touch of drama for nocturnal folk like me.

So progress, but a way to go yet.

* Re Debt Ceiling hostage Crisis: The last time the Republican Congress toyed with default, it cost the government 1.3 billion dollars. If Republicans are so worried about the debt, why is wasting this sort of money by flirting with default? An actual default is vastly more expensive. In 1979, Congress cut it too close because they said they were worried about the debt, it cost us 12 billion dollars. How is running up all this debt for no reason and getting nothing for it fiscally responsible? If Republicans think wasting so much money for no reason is a good idea, why don't they take the money they plan to waste on their tantrum and actually do something that would help the economy. Imagine if they took the billions they want to waste and buy infrastructure or rehire people hired because of the sequester or gave everyone free health care or created a scholarship fund for hard working students with it? Hell, they could hold a lottery and parcel it out and that would still be vastly better for the economy then running up debt in an argument over whether or not we should pay our bills.

The Republicans have been the party of wild irresponsibility since at least Reagan. Wouldn't it be nice if they decided to do something good for the economy instead for once?

Short version: The computer program that controls intake and disbursement for the US Treasury is the most complicated financial program in the world. The computer programs for the VA and Health Care exchanges are way more simple and programmers had years to write them and there was money appropriated to pay for all that. Republicans are insisting that between now and Wednesday morning we can replace the entire Treasury disbursement program to completely change the way money is disbursed, with no money appropriated to write that program, and look at how buggy those are. Even if it were possible to write a replacement program and test it with no programers to do the work, which it isn't, there is some question as to its legality.
