* Meta Media Moment: It is always fascinating watching the BBC presenter trying to explain why the US is creating these dangerous and expensive financial crises for ourselves and potentially the world when there is no rational reason sane economists can grasp. He tries. He tries so hard to break it down into simple terms and make sense of it, but of course there is no sense to it. Under the calm there is this sense that he's sweating whether or not economic self interest will trump Faith based Nihilism.

* Glee 5.1-3:
Love, Love, Love: Never date anyone ashamed to be seen with you, Artie. Good for Tina standing up for Artie. That thing where the boys think they need to intervene because Tina is expressing justified anger and standing up for herself? I keep thinking of rm talking about the price of being a girl on Glee. I'm also thinking about the way the racial subtext reads and it's striking me as kind of creepy in a writers being deliberate sort of way. There is this sense that they are all trying to push her back in a box.
Both Blaine and Kurt have cheated before: Blaine on Kurt; Kurt with Blaine. I suspect more cheating is in the future. I have a whole lot of stuff going on in my head re: Blaine's proposal and the choir unity thing, but I'm having trouble turning them into anything coherent. I am charmed by Sam's enthusiasm. I am also, interested in the ways various reactions in the choir room fit together with the mix of reactions at the end of last season, but again, it's all half formed. Oooo! The missing Warbler is right in front for the pitch! Kurt planned his own surprise party at 10? That... kind of makes sense.
Tina in the Sky with Diamonds: Wow, this episode is saying all sorts of things about female ambition and how people react to it with multiple characters and in both locations. This one clearly also will need more braining.
I am adding this episode as a data point on the Sam has serious self esteem issues underneath his I'm okay surface theory.
I hope Santana's new potential relationship gets properly fleshed out and has a physical side.
The Carrie sequence was hard to watch.
I am thinking of Kurt lifting his chin up and owning his prom. They wanted to humiliate him and he stood tall. They convince Tina to do something similar,but there was a creepy live doll quality to the dressing. I like that she has a whole posse in instead of Kurt's narrow support. I love her defiance as she remounts the stage.
I found myself watching Blaine, who has been through this before in more ways than one, from multiple angles. When he speaks up to convince her "to be that girl?" Talk about history piled up behind those arguments. (The Sadie Hawkins gay bashing, two proms, Sebastian's slushie, and a world of microagressions he deals with every day). He's so beautiful as they march back in, so full of joy and the triumph of surviving. He's come such a long way.
I have watched "The Quarterback," but I'm not going to write about it here. (I reserve the right to comment on things others have written.) I have buried two lovers and most of my family and the near absence of a forth wall means I can't really talk about this as art right now. All I will say is that there was a time I'd had given my left arm for a certain grotty grey long coat to wrap myself in. I can't help but empathize with all the folks still grieving Mr. Monteith out in the real.
