* Friday: We now know what's wrong with my shoulder. my belief it is the AS colonizing another joint ad not a normal injury proved correct. In part. In the middle of the bad episode the last two months i stared getting what felt like tendinitis, I assumed in response to the whole trying to function with a fucked up shoulder. It looks like a tendon is sort of fucked now. Not normal injury fucked, so much as a year and a half of trying to cope with the weird ass bone and cartilage stuff happening in my shoulder causing slow secondary damage fucked.

This means neither of the likely treatments will work. (One for a normal injury; one for AS join damage).

She's trying to talk Medicare into some physio. We'll see. So this is basically my life now.

* Livia, who has never seen a real mirror because she doesn't go up on the bathroom sink, just had a fight with her reflection in the patio door. I've usually lowered the curtain by now. I don't think she's noticed her night reflection before. When I went over she meeped plaintively at me to let her out to kick mirror cat's butt. They are now having a staring content. That's literally the biggest cats she's seen since she was weened. That strange cat is on the patio where the human does weird things to plants! Clearly that is imperial territory.

In other cat news, yesterday she learned she can still just fit in the little bookshelf for a nap.

The BPAL Dragon Caver virtual flower swap got complicated. I found my archival tape, so fixed a bunch of things with it before I could forget again. It dawned on me that I need to empty and swap some shelves before I continue unpacking my bedroom. Hector would not shut up because reasons.

Tomorrow is a downtown loop for library, Post Office, and Pharmacy. Also, hopefully, unpacking lots of things.

* When We Wake was every bit as good as promised. The start was a little slow, but it was worth bearing with it. It's also nice to see a prominent PoC character and a well handled interracial relationship, along with the matter of fact handling of lesbian and trans characters among the most important characters. The politics in this are important, but not preachy and it does some interesting things with fame and image management. I am looking forward to more books by this author.

People keep asking me for recommendations, so here's some I gave Tib tonight off the top of my head:

YA Suggestions: (The really good stuff doesn't have movies:) Franscica Lia Block (Magic Realism in LA. some gay characters, but mostly het. She has a fantasy series that's more uneven), Tamora Peirce (Don't get Circle of magic since those are for younger kids. Fantasy novels with strong female protagonists), David Leviathan (Mostly gay lit, but he has Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist which has a straight couple as main characters, the rest is gay main characters). My favorite of his is Wide Awake named after the Bright Eyes Album), Chris Crutcher (I suggest Iron man. His writing is a little stilted, but this is the best of them). I think there are movies for Walter Dean Meyers, who does decent work on inner city guys and sports. Laurie Halse Anderson rocks socks, but no movies either. (Speak=date rape, Catalyst=bright girl with issues, Prom=Working class girl tries to save Prom even though she's not going.) Slave Day by Rob Thomas is one of the most complex things I've seen for teens on race and gender. A Parcel of Patterns does wonderful stuff with the Plague. Bradbury's Dandelion Wine is a classic, really. I'm also fond of Something Wicked This Way comes. Hinton's Rumble Fish is good. Most teens have likely read The Outsiders for school, but not the others. Some other excellent LBGT teen lit: Keeping you a Secret, Talk, and The Order of the Poison Oak.
