gwydion* Republicans Promise to Gut Social Security if Elected in 2016. Jeb Bush and Chris Christie are coming out strongly in favour of cutting back already inadequate social security benefits and raising the eligibility age under the pretense that social security is insolvent even though it objectively isn't and a simpler fix to would be to repeal the Republican "reform" that capped social security contributions so the wealthy don't have to pay the same percentage of what they make as the other 99%. Remember, in the current economy, ever dollar spent on social security is worth about 1.50 in economic activity and tax revenue for the government. By contrast, give aways to the wealthy such as tax cuts are only worth .30 on the dollar. As a result, going back to the old system and using that money to give the elderly enough money every month to actually live on is not just fair (they paid in their whole lives), compassionate (allowing the elderly to live in dignity intend of scrambling for subsistence), it is sound economic policy that helps the whole community by increasing local economic activity and creating jobs. Give aways to the wealthy only suck money out of the economy, so why not simply ask the wealthy to pay the same percentage in taxes everyone else pays? But no. Instead the republicans would like your parents and grandparents to work themselves to death or become homeless because protecting the .1% from paying their share of anything is their only priority for economic policy. It's 2015 and they are still running presidential candidates on the Mitt Romney vulture capitalist gut the economy to pay the .1% model.
* Meanwhile, John Beohner, incensed that the 1% still need to pay taxes when they inherit their billions floated a bill to abolish estate tax for the 1% entirely, but don't worry, this will only carve a 20 billion dollar whole in the budget and those of us not born millionaires or billionaires will still be paying our inheritance tax. After all, Republicans believe that while those working full time at back breaking jobs don't deserve a living wage or enough healthy food to eat, people who have never done a real day of work and benefit from workers not being paid what they are worth need to be protected from paying anything back into the system they are robbing. After all, the government not only subsidizes the very rich by taxing them the least, they subsidize the corporations they own by letting the corporations they own not pay their workers fairly, thus causing the government to have to make up the difference in things like Food stamps/EBT. And yet, somehow it's not the rich and the corporate welfare cheats that get demonized, but the working poor who can't survive on $8.00 and hour.
