They would each have their own room and space for their interests. Henry could herd a small flock of sheep and Louis could make keys. Every one would be careful not to touch Charles VI, and the cook could make soft foods for Charles II. Everyone would be kind to each other and none of them would be asked to deal with things like war and politics and they would be so much happier than they were in life.

Henry VI in particular just breaks my heart every damned time.

* I am of the opinion that all the selfie hate in the media is all about the misogyny. When it was mostly male artists and photographers doing self portraits, it's high art. When teenage girls do it, it's proof of shallowness and vanity and therefore wrong. It's yet another way to shame girls for taking control of the image they present and expressing agency.

* I was mulling a theory that Slenderman is speaking to the zeitgeist of people who grew up on Nightmare Before Christmas, but am a generation too old to test it in my own head.

* Is it just me, or were last weeks two episodes of the Librarians actually watchable?

* I really appreciate the way last weeks Elementary talked about addiction. I've seen friends go through that point, where the grinding tedium of it and knowledge that this is the rest of your life gets discouraging. It's generally not considered dramatic enough for fictional representations, but it's important and hard and something it is good for people to see, I think. I like the way it's slow built all season. I really appreciate the way that they don't let the addiction drop or be magically cured, and that he can't just special snowflake his way out of it. Elementary's plots don't generally live up to what I would like in a mystery show, but they do things with the characters and relationships that are fresh and interesting. I think the theme of agency for Kitty is going interesting places. I have always liked the way Joan stands up to Sherlock. The way they handle addiction here... it speaks to so many of my incredibly clever often atheist friends struggling with the program. Being incredibly bright does not make staying sober easier. It's a good thing to see a show that routinely includes that.

* The Library sent me the start of Penny Dreadful, so I am finally getting to see what the fuss is about. I'm still mulling the first episode. It looks like they have house of cards and Orange is the new Black Season one in, so I'm on the wait list for those. Yes, I know about Netflix, but since Hector broke the speaker plug in it is a major PITA for me to try to watch things on the laptop.

* I came back from spending all I had on meds to realize that nearly all the goosh cans left are flavours Hector has decided are inedible recently. (For months Poultry platter was his favorite flavour, now he insists it is poooooison! Mixed Grill is slightly cheaper and he was willing to eat it up until last week). After three months of mostly being off fish, which used to be his favorite, he wants fish based pates again. I've been trying to fob off LM with the flavours he's rejecting, but he's also having a bad dementia week, which means more food waste. We have enough kibble for LM, but Hector can't chew it, only having fangs left.

We likely have two days of Hector food left. I should have checked before splurging on an second course of antibiotics. I know that. The coughing has been wearing me out and I didn't think.

* Yesterday we brought in another car load and a half from the storage unit. I managed to sort and absorb a massive amount of miscellanea. This cull is particularly brutal. I am going to be getting rid of books along with a massive amount of mementos. (I found a birthday check I lost in 1993 from my long dead Grandmother in a card. I found love letters, and wedding invitations, and cards. Nearly all must go). I hate selling books, but it must be done. I have enough books for a whole other apartment this size full of bookshelves, library style, and am unlikely to live anywhere larger. It is still a little like slicing off bits of flesh. Some of these were parent's or grandparents, and I started buying books for myself in lower school.

Today Hector was particularly nightmare prone and I kept having to wake up and calm him down. About halfway through the sleep cycle I had that thing where I could barely turn over for the pain. Apparently I sprained my ankle yesterday at some point. (High pain threshold + plush constant widespread pain= i hurt myself all the time without noticing.) I ended up doing the serious muscle relaxant thing and lounging in bed with hector watching Boardwalk Empire thing. (I'm in season 3. Please don't tell me things I haven't seen yet). I am picking at the book boxes, sorting and moving things about.

They mention them using the wrong Loa. I don't think they are nearly as angry about that as I am. No, it's not my religion, and I'm pretty ignorant about it, but even I spotted that it was not the right name on the Loa, and that what they were doing is incredibly offensive. I didn't speak up at the time, because it's not my religion and I wanted to hear what practitioners I correspond with had to say. Having heard how disgusting this twisting and appropriation is for my correspondents who practice, I can only say that as angry I was when I watched the first episode with the loa in it, I still wasn't angry enough. They would not do something like this to Christianity, and I strongly suspect they felt safe doing it because Vodoun and Voodoo are a minority religion in this country and religion mostly practiced by People of Color. You add this on top of all the other messed up things happening around race in this show, and the picture isn't pretty. It's stops being in story (individual characters being racist), and starts being structural (The people writing the show are maxing decisions to not only shit on the characters of color but are shitting on the religious beliefs of real human beings in the real world in a way that lies about their religion in an incredibly damaging way, while making all the in story racism seem appropriate, which it isn't. Fuck that! It's creepy and it makes me complicit for having watched it). And yes, there were a whole lot of interesting things going on with themes relevant to my interests such as fame and fandom, and yes, it was well acted and beautiful designed and shot, but that doesn't negate what a vile piece of filth I swallowed by watching it. I am sorry I ever laid eyes on it.

I can tell it's laminate, not hardwood, but it looks good. I have faith in them finishing Monday, given how far that guy got on his own. The living room here looks a little naked with three book shelves gone and most of what was left on the remaining shelves emptying out. (The good shelf is in the new place, and the unfinished shelf is getting painted before it goes over. One of the collapsible particle board ones went home with Greenwick, so they can use it in their new space at the flea market. I plan to buy ceiling high book cases to fit available space at the end of the move. Squirrel gets first pick of my collapsibles and then Greenwick and Djinni will get the rest.

* I was exhausted so went to bed early. It was to no avail as the Con Crud is really ramping up on me and I was too sick to sleep. While it is certainly horrible that anyone died, given the violence in the lead up to the election and the over a thousand who died in the previous one, this is a huge improvement. * I left the house at 8:30AM into a real pea souper. Luckily, people in this region are as good at fog driving as they are bad at snow driving. It was still periodically scary as Hell as it was still heavy at 11AM when I went into the the bowels of the most brutal bit of bureaucracy where I spent three hours with screaming children and uncomfortable chairs. Why 8:30AM? The Post Office near Social Security opens at 8:30, so I could mail my box and be the second person in line for papers. Then I did the long loop, which involved more line waiting, but which turned my trip to the notary into a fast phone call I can make tomorrow, and solved a couple other things on my to do list for this week. Then was the purgatorial wait I mentioned. That was a mixed bag. I managed to multi-task it, which cut tomorrow's two hour voice mail buck passing phone call out entirely, in favour of a fast no. Sigh. I needed to wait the three hours anyway as it was also EBT reup time, so think of it as cutting five hours of bureaucracy into three. I needed to pick up some things that end of town and doing it after was cheaper in gas than a second trip, and I ate out, as I needed food by then and I knew I'd have no spoons by the time I got home. Then I went to the library as it needed doing today and picked up a replacement fish eater as the murina I bought as an experiment is a piece of crap. I suspect this is the root cause of my blue guppy colony not taking. They no longer make my usual type of heater, but were carrying the new model from the reliable company, so I'm trying that. The fish already look more active. I'll tinker with it more tomorrow. I got home a little after 2PM, dumped my gear and crashed. I did turn up late for my play date, but so did everyone else, and as I'd told them yesterday I wasn't coming, I don't feel bad about it. Tomorrow is Greenwick. Let's hope I'm more together then.
