* 45 is holding the Health Care System hostage for Tax Cuts for the 2%. 45 hates working Americans so much, his current plan is to bankrupt hospitals and collapse the entire American health care system by cutting off all government health care payments until Trumpcare passes and 24 million people lose their insurance to pay for the tax cut for the richest 2% he is demanding.

Seriously folks. Congress is on recess. Not only are there the Saturday tax day protests all over, but now is an excellent time to turn up at town halls and Congress Critter's district offices, and/or call to insist health care should be a right. Do not forget to thank Congress critters who are displaying back bone on this topic as we know how apt their spines are to jellify if we don't keep on them.

* ...And the foot thing is postponed til nearly the end of the month. It is nobody's fault. A family emergency on the part of my doctor requiring travel. I really wanted to get it over with and the reschedule doesn't give me the weekend to recover, but family absolutely does come first and it's better she go. I managed to resprain the ankle I mildly sprained... whichever day it was I scored the starts. It's bad enough I'm using the crutch around the houe and it's not the ankle attached to the foot I cut open, which means I'd likely have had to get the wheel chair out if they had been cutting my foot open in a few hours. It is very annoying that my ankles sprain themselves when I'm just shuffling around, but it's an ex athlete thing. That decade I spent distance running over rough terrain and concrete and endlessly injuring them when I was young, coming back to haunt me. I don't have a lot of cartilage and they are fragile. I'm lucky I never hurt myself dancing. That's a good way to take out a knee, for example. I knew athletes who started knees surgeries in high school. The running destroyed my ankles and the AS is gnawing my spine and hip joints, but my knees are doing pretty well given the pounding I gave them with the running and dancing and Wing Chun.

* TOS Rewatch, Season 1:

- "Devil in the Dark:" This one starts pretty well, actually. The set is above average, they quickly establish the terror of the miners and create suspense. The first death is before the credits. It's so weird when ToS is actually competently executed. Of course, it's an all human sausagefest in the mines because in the Federation only men mine as was established in the first Harvey Mudd episode, and ToS is extremely human centric even by later star Trek standards. I don't know how to feel about Kirk and Spock exchanging positions on the Horta. Nimoy's performance really is haunting. There is a reason this one is on most favorite episodes list, because this one really does work as an entertainment and a message.

- "Errand of Mercy:" A cold war episode. Prime Directive? What Prime Directive. Let's go introduce ourselves to a Medieval tech planet and damn the consequences. Yes, I know there is more going on than meets the eye, but the Feds and the Klingons don't know that. When the locals point out they are not really being given a choice they aren't wrong. For all the pretty talk from the Feds they are colonizers here, just politer ones than the Klingons. They consider themselves in a position to judge whether this culture is worthy. Kirk's fury at pacifism and his foolishness in somehow not being aware that bugs and hidden cameras are a thing even though that's old tech when these shows were made and I doubt the Federation has completely lost the skill to make and use surveillance tech. Why even would you send Kirk on this mission given how completely incapable of impulse control he is and how he doesn't do any diplomacy that doesn't involve sticking his Dick in something. I do get that they are poking at the idea of how similar or different Feds and Klingons are but it's just slow and clunky, especially compared to the much easier to watch horta episode right before it.

* So I'm trying a Wonder Woman rewatch. Keep in mind that I saw them first in real time when they were brand new, to the point that I remember all the little girls twirling on the playground, singing Wonder Woman and pretending to transform. These were so important when I was a kid, in an era when boys liked to pretend only white boys were allowed to be superheroes and everyone else had to be villains or damsels to rescue. Diana had a job and was a superhero too. It was incredibly important and exciting to see her on TV I watched them in syndication into the '80's, but I likely haven't seen them since...I'm guessing 83? '84? The pilot rather cheesy by modern tastes, I fear, and the dialog is rather wooden. You can see the direct line from the Adam West Batman to here, though this isn't that kind of funny. Oddly enough, I had forgotten it was meant to be WWII and they were fighting NAZIs, this despite me clearly remembering everything else about the plot of the pilot. It is just so very seventies in look and feel and content, that I kept forgetting watching it that this is supposed to be the '40's. I am not impressed with the male sidekick, who is no where near her caliber, and I have other qualms. It has not aged as well as one would hope, but it was actually watcheable unlike Green Hornet, and I've hopes of it smoothing out a little next episode. I just... It's hard to separate the reality from how incredibly important it was to a generation of little girls.

* Health Update: I'm about half as sick as I was this time last week, which is a more functional thing. The steroids did way cut down the amount of gunk in my lungs, though I'm also clearly still infected with something. I am really struggling with things like food, though there is no real way to tell if it is the infection, the steroid's after effects, or the ravages of antibiotics. The Doctor prescribed a new long term lung treatment, but I'd already spent two hours at the Doctor and the pharmacy's usually overwhelmed that close to close. I also forgot to check if any money had cleared before I left. I've called a few more things in and will go pick up the mess another day. I am still heavily medicated even by my standards and the infection leaves me exhausted.

There were no tomato or basil starts when I went to the co-op and it turns out I can't even order a gravy flat as I'd planned to as the distributor wasn't even selling them. Sigh. I did get dried mushrooms there and emergency perishables on the way home, but my dream of tzaziki and naan will have to await another mission on another day. I do have a nice set of greens planted outside and have radically reorganized to take best advantage of the sun. My choice to leave the perennial herbs up high on the shelving has proved an excellent idea as the sage and sorrel are thriving and quite happy to poke up through the bars. I'm being liberal with the sluggo even though I haven't seen slugs yet as they are brutal with young greens, and I have a lot of fragile volunteers seeded out of last years crop. Let us hop we get tomatoes and carrot too, as last year was a bit of a disappointment in the carrot green department.

Next time you see someone mocking a woman for posting pictures of her breakfast, take a moment to imagine the time and energy men used to spend painting picture of theirs.

* Black Sails XXXVIII: Orpheus and Eurydice and Ambiguous Oracles.

I have a lot of feelings about this one. I'm normally a fan of ambiguity and unreliable narration, but in this instance I am left with a fury so deep I'm not sure what to do with it. For the record, I am agnostic on the Schrodinger's Cat situation. I leaned one way after first watching; I lean another way after deep analysis, wavered back and forth, but I am not really convinced either way and honestly wish they had not left us all with this mess. I will explain my reasons and thinking in the analysis, but I suspect I will not leave anyone happy. I know I'm not, but I do feel better having chewed it over at length. I do mean at length. Edited to add: I am leaning towards team live cat after the edit at the bottom and literally more than half a day writing about it.

Side note: Can we please have this cast in all the things? There are so many incredibly skilled actors here. I know Mcgowen and Stephens have particularly strong careers, but can we please put the rest of them, particularly Ms. Kennedy and Toby Schmitz in lots of projects, but really all of them in everything?

* The next piece in the MacMillian sampler was the Judas tree, which it turned out I HAD seen a production of before, likely at the turn of the century. The music is as aggressively modern as the ballet is aggressively misogynistic. The one woman in it is explicitly a Madonna/whore trope and they rape her death. The choreography is excellent and both the dancing and miming were first rate, which makes it wore in a way. I am not convinced that making gang rape/murder/suicide exquisitely beautiful is a thing we ought to be doing. It was sort of peak MacMilian in every sense, really both in his obsession with ritualized violence against women and the very best of his choreography. I have no idea how to feel about something so terrible in it's conception so well executed. The ancient Greeks had a word to express this exactly, but we don't.

The final piece was Concerto. This was sort of a cut rate Balanchine in my opinion. The simpler costumes were an improvement over Elite Syncopation, but there was nothing particularly interesting or moving going on, and it suffered from the same sloppiness of execution and unevenness of skill that the Elite Syncopation suffered from, only this time the problem was more general. The women in the four lead couples were so different in line and extension that the effect was very ragged. Everyone's turn speed, timing, and lines were subtly different in the group numbers, but not enough different to look deliberate. It was like everyone was dancing individually with no reference to what anyone else was doing even when they were doing obvious formations. It was all very raggedy ass and sloppy. There was maybe one good pas de deux in there and a reasonable solo, but the whole thing was very amateur hour, which is weird because the Judas Tree proved they could dance when they want to and the women at least were much better in ES.

Why even WAS Kenneth Macmillan when Ashton and Balanchine already were?

* My culture didn't grow well, which is a thing that happens. My Doctor has decided that a forth antibiotic so soon might endanger my system, so we are trying a low dose of steroids again in hopes that the problem is inflammation. I'll likely be steroid sick the rest of the week, but on the upside I got a free bottle of sudafed out of it which means rationing is over.

* Today I finally finished the autoclave and sterilization of the bathroom tank, as I am well enough to bend over. The cough is unpleasant, but manageable today, though I'm starting to get steroid sickness symptoms. I don't think Tavy has been here for a sterilization before and it was all very exciting to him. That is his favorite tank after all and he spent hours every day perched up there watching the fish. He was so sad when there were no more fish to watch and he'd stare balefully, hoping to see one. he's had a umber of accidents during the cleaning process that involved him getting his beans wet as he jumped or fell in the open tank. The last couple days, he's been hiding in there with the last of the dirt being dry. I had trouble keeping him out of it during scraping and cleaning and was riding around on my shoulder during sterilization and the evil human accidentally spit water on his but during rinse cycle syphoning. I need to finish resetting the tank and catch some test fish to put in to see if the cleaning of the new type of filter was successful, but not tonight as I'm now dizzy.

* Apparently, I can no longer tell Mike Meyers and Jimmy Fallon apart.

* The MacMillian sampler came. On paper, a ballet based on Scott Joplin is so up my alley it's like they were thinking of me. Alas, in execution Elite Syncopation proved hard to watch. The costumes were a real problem for me. That many bright colours and patterns all in motion is something I flat out don't do well with. I kept getting distracted by things like arrows on the butt cheeks of a lady's skin tight spandex unitard, or the star on that lady's pelvis to match her ass cheeks or wincing at a particularly nasty clash between horrible outfits. I get it, meant to be light and funny, but I kept thinking about how rapey/violnce against women the full length ballets are said to be. (I've seen parts of Manon and Meyerling, but not the whole, so grain of salt). Anyway, this felt like forced wackiness and my physical discomfort with the costume choices made that some how worse.

And it wasn't just the costumes that were the problem. The women in the featured roles seemed fine and worked well when I could notice the dancing despite the costumes. The men though? The skill level difference between the four male leads was so extreme it completely ruined the quatre. If you have one guy jumping about two feet higher than the worst of the four in a dance that demands unison, it stands out. Two of the guys danced crisply while the other two were noticeably more sloppy. It ruined the effect and the costumes being so complicated colour and pattern wise and different from each other only emphasized the differences in quality of the dancing. It just... never jelled, even though there were some lovely pas de deux, and bits of dancing singly and in groups by the women. I honestly can't comment on the choreography as I was so overwhelmed by the mess that I couldn't really find brain space for thinking properly about what they were trying to achieve.

* The Wing Chun dojo where I studied intensely while it lasted was descended from Bruce Lee's Seattle period, before he branched out to make his own style. (My Sifu's Sifu studied under Bruce Lee directly). I have seen his movies more times than I can count, but all I'd ever seen of the Green hornet were the clips. I was born too late and unlike Batman it never made it to syndication. I got really excited at the chance to finally see what they were like. I've been trying to watch the pilot and it's... not good. I know, blasphemy. it's not Bruce lee's fault, I want to make clear. I think I can see what went wrong. It's like no one involved in writing, directing, or editing this thing had any clue why A. the Adam West Batman worked, or B. why Bruce lee was good. The result is neither campy fun NOR martial arts fun. I'll take either, you see. I'd love both. Instead it's just boring white guys trying to say complicated exposition really, really fast, between fight scenes were only one participant actually knows how to fight and everyone else is going through the motions. I'm go to try one or two more to see if they improve, but so far it's unwatchable to the point I keep literally forgetting I'm watching and go do other things.

* I spent so many years trying to fight Doctors who were trying to gaslight me into agreeing that I wasn't sick, including that time I spent half a decade trying to convince someone to do something about Heberton, the tumor colony that was literally killing me, that even after years of dealing with a practice where the Doctor's are willing to actually treat me, it is always a huge relief that they do instead of making me waste huge amounts of energy I haven't got fighting for treatment. Decades of training has made me used to being told I am imaging whatever happens to be actively trying to kill me, which of course plays in "fun" ways with my childhood abuse. I really have no words for how I feel every time a Doctor just tries to fix what wrong instead of trying to retraumatize me out of laziness and/or prejudice.

The lab results weren't back yet, but the x-ray was definitive. This is the first pneumonia I've had in the half decade or so since I was vaccinated against it. I used to get it most years, so the vaccine was so worth it. I started antibiotic number three this morning, one of the alarmingly strong ones. At least it's only once a day, and I'm off my arthritis meds for the duration as I don't like making holes in my stomache. My body pulled one of it's little chronic illness rebellions this evening, though it is hard to tell if it's the pneumonia or the antibiotic or both or neither. They made need to change antibiotic depending on what strain it tuns out to be, but odds are I won't. This has been a bad one, acute more than half the time between the beginning of February and now. In it's own way it's been worse than the six months of lung MRSA.

In other news, Squirrel is recovering well from the influenza and Tavy has been trying terribly hard to be good, poor wee beastie.

* I feel like people get intimidated by "elite" culture. People with a lot of time and money to devote to things like studying Shakespeare or classical music or high end art have a very human interest in making these things into something only the very wealthy and highly educated have a right to enjoy because they are the ones who can tease out the nuance. The thing is though that music, art, dance, theater have mostly been available to everybody to some degree. Shakespeare was for the Groundlings as well as the toffs. Church music had to reach the peasant and the rag picker as well as the Queen, King, and the Princes of the church. Art had patrons and sure, the stuff in palaces were for the very rich, but the same painters put the art on public columns and in churches too where everyone saw it. Music and dance have always belonged to everyone even if certain types were more common in one setting or another. even opera had cheap seats when it was new. The barrier between the art of the rich and the art of the poor is a very modern thing, even though we all grew up thinking there was this line between popular and high art. It is bull shit. If you like something and enjoy it, there is nothing wrong with that. your tastes may change with age and exposure and/or study, but never let any one tell you that something that gives you pleasure isn't good enough, and a hundred times that never let anyone tell you you aren't good enough to understand and enjoy something. If it makes you feel something, than that bit of music/art/theater/dance/poetry/whatever worked on some level. That needs to be enough.

It is also absolutely valid NOT to like something, even when everyone seems to be telling you you should. Everyone has a right to their own taste and don’t like anyone tell you different.

* As is often the case when a sample is needed it suddenly becomes difficult to produce one. I tried at every waking from 5AMish on. I am currently well enough to sleep about an hour at a time with the right medication, which was timed to wear off about when getting a lung sample would be useful, so it wasn't a bad plan. Nothing. So much nothing. I had reached the point where I decided to just bring the thing with me and go get the x-ray, and had dresssed, when Squirrel came to tell me he needed the car quick, which was fine. I started serious hydration as sometimes that helps.

I literally had just put the key in the ignition when eureka! I quickly labelled it and drove down there to turn it in, masking up first lest I infect everyone. There was the usual wait, but they have good phlebotomists, so the line moved quickly. I popped in at the library on the way to my x-ray which trip involved a bewildering array of back roads, since my small city has something like five competing grid systems all radiating out o the original five towns that got swallowed up into one sprawling, but not even a little dense metro area.

I had correctly remembered which building in the medical district I was aiming for and I swear either the signage is better or the lower amount of vegetation at this time of year made it all dramatically easier to see. As usual, there was trouble with my paperwork, even though the labs were properly submitted. There is always trouble with my paperwork when I go for things like X-rays, MRIs, Cat scans, etc., so I wasn't even a little surprised. It wasn't my doctor being overwhelmed with emergencies this time (50%) chance, but something to do with mis-routing at a central hub (the other 50%), resolved fairly quickly with a fax from my Doctor. It was painful and left me with bruises (from low lying obstacles to trip over, but done.

I have Doctor at too damned early tomorrow, at which point I'll find out how bad it is and what if anything we are doing about it. Let us hope Pharmacy will take my handful of change as a copay. I have enough for full coverage, but not sliding, though now and then Pharmacy waves copays for sliding scale patients if you really need the meds and their quota for the month isn't full. this is why I go there with the limited hours instead of a real pharmacy because they are cheapest and sometimes they will rescue one when all else fails. *fingers crossed*

* Wednesday was rough, but sweetened by people being kind. I had a badly timed Doctor's appointment about my ongoing lung infection (Month two!), that meant I had two hours to sleep, which realistically meant one, given how long it takes me to get to sleep. I was down there for ages. They decided to wait on a third course of antibiotics, given how rough that is on the body and it's not bad enough for me to suffocate when I sleep. If it keeps getting worse, we'll sample it and do targeted antibiotics like we did with the lung MRSA, This is pretty much what I was expecting, but I always check in when my lungs get lacey as it speeds the process way up if it all goes pear shaped. (I can call in and they can order labs in advance, so can just turn up with a sample and drop it off.)

I then did a library and Post Office run as they are right there, stopping at the Co-op to order a flat of the soup I like when I am sick, reserves having been depleted by February's illness, and pick up the low sugar and sodium Ketchup I like. I came home and put things away before attempting yet another two hour nap (again, really an hour given how long it takes to get asleep), so I could make my forage meet up. I took my friend to pick up stuff at the feed store and then paid the tax bill. I'm going to end up short on bills later in the month (I need to calculate how much, but not today), but housing is safe until Fall. We then went up to the Winco, where I got necessary cleaning supplies and some seeds. After dropping my friend off, I picked up some other cleaning things with the last of my cash. By this time the beautiful warm weather that had me out without a coat had turns rather suddenly to pissing down rain and hail, catching me nicely on the way out of the dollar store. Unloading in the hail was "charming." It was coming down hard enough and I was exhausted and soaked already so their didn't seem a point to waiting it out. This was a miscalculation, as by the time Squirrel came out to carry in the forage, it was down to a light rain. I did manage to get everything squared away and the fish maintenance done, but it was a near thing. Another kind friend sent me dinner, so I could lung while I waited, then went off to bed, hence the relative silence. I will do my best to catch up to things, but odds are they won't be normal 'til Friday or Saturday.

Thanks again to both kind donors who sponsored Wednesday's missions.

* Way back in the dawn of cable TV, when Nikelodean was brand new (Nik at night wasn't even a spark of an idea yet), they didn't have a lot of programming yet. They filled up the spaces with a lot of things imported from Europe, plus running the few original shows, like a lot. So basically everything they had foreign or domestic got rerun over and over. When your age is in single digits, this is a feature, not a bug. They had a whole stable of French and Italian shorts, a few original things like pinwheel for the very young. For my age group, they imported a lot of UK programming for older children. This is why I saw all the original Tomorrow People episodes, as they rand them every afternoon for several years. They also had a set of three mini-series that they would rotate aimed at middle grade audience. I have lost the names of the other two (one had a family of aliens that would revert to blobs. If any of you know what the hell that was, I'd love to know. We are likely talking made in the seventies of very early 80's). The one that made a huge impression on me was Children of the Stones. Even at that age I knew that the child acting was uneven (The girl was pretty good, but the lead boy and his friend, not so much), and some of the dialog was stilted, but the images and ideas were the sort to stay with one and rather brilliant. Standing stones that may or may not be people moving around when no one was looking. Creepy idealized Stepford villagers slowly assimilating new comers, creepy Morris dancers, mystic and SF goings on. The library even had a copy by a miracle, so I watched it again. The clothes are '70's ugly, and it's a slower build than a modern show would have, but is good the way the original Wicker Man is good, despite it's flaws. now if only they'd make Blake 7 in U S format, as I haven't seen that in decades either.

* I want to thank the person who recommended Pride. I never even heard of it, but oh did I ugly cry multiple times in the second half. i'm guessing a lot of you haven't heard of this one either, but it's really well acted and based on events that I was only vaguely aware of being American, but which I think modern activists really need to know about. (I kept think during the election that we needed modernized Harvey Milk tactics and not the crappy ones the democratic party was going with, by which I mean, Mr. Milk went around to all the Unions and did all this workers and the Queer community United campaigning for issues that mattered to both groups). Pride is about a group of London Gay and Lesbian activists who tried to help support the big 1984 Miner's strike and how they ended up having each other's backs against the evil that was Thatcher and her Conservative agenda. The cast is amazing. I didn't recognize the younger actors, but they were excellent and really caught the spirit of the age. It also had folks like Andrew Scott (best known as Jim Moriarty, but here playing Gethin, who was my favorite), Dominic West (from the Wire), Imelda Staunton, Bill Nighy, Joseph Gilgun, Russell Tovey etc.. I loved the women in this, even though the really flash roles were the men. I love that Sian ended up an Rl MP. I loved the way the Welsh village not only had to adapt to the Queer characters, but the queer characters had to adapt to the Welsh miners, that relationship was reciprocal and that just this once people kept their promises and turned up when it counted. The '80's were such a terrible time and the things that were terrible about it (AIDS, Thatcherism) weren't lost or lampshaded, but the movie still managed to be so fucking hopeful.

I think this is a movie we need in the age of Brexit, Trumpism, the rise of the National Front, etc.. This is a movie to remind us that it is worth fighting and that e need to make alliances wherever and whenever we can. Some of us won't survive this, much as so many didn't survive Thatcher and regan, but we need to grab life and hope where we can and we need to keep reaching out and fighting together win or lose.

* I went out for another twenty dollars worth of meds I can't afford for the upper respiratory infection that is currently causing the problem, as I need those if I want to sleep instead of just coughing my lungs out. In the end the antibiotics cleared out the deep lung infection, fever, and the nasty one in my mouth, but It's looking like the sinus infection and half the cough are viral, which is a thing that happens with me. It's looking like I can tolerate short bursts of extremely low dose prednisone better than the normal dose which is super good to know. It's not something I'd do to myself voluntarily except as an extreme measure, but I wasn't trapped in bed like last time. In any case that is over with, today being final dose. I catch one thing and other things take advantage and move in. I can sleep if I prop and take the meds, so out I went. The short trip to the OTC drugs and book drop post rush hour was also a trial run to see if I am safe to drive, as the streets were lightly trafficked. I have doctor tomorrow again. We'll see how it goes.

* I've been craving Mountain Goats and Bright Eyes pretty much constantly since early January. It finally dawned on me that I am mourning. Oh, not the acute stage. I want things like Cohen's Hallelujah for the memorial service and things like the Pogues for the Wake. No one is as good for a wake as the Pogues, I've found. No, Bright Eyes and Mountain Goats are for the long slow moths of grieving. After my Soldier, I'd sometimes wake up to discover I'd put "Easy/Lucky/Free" on auto repeat at some point in the night and had curled up around the boom box like a fist, my ear pressed to the speaker. I'm not entirely sure why they suit that stage of grief so well, but this time I have a theory. Alexander Adams once said something in a concert song intro about working with At Risk Kids and how they liked the darkest songs the best. I think it's the same phenomenon. Songs like that aren't pretending everything is all right. As beautiful and intricate as the poetry is in "Tallahassee," it is in the service of describing in the most intimate of detail exactly how bad things are. The incredibly vulnerability in a lot of connor Oberst's work (I have often wondered what it must be like to sing over and over about a failed suicide attempt in concerts, for example. Is it torment or catharsis?), and the raw pain in his broken voice juxtaposed with often soothing melody line really does feel like working through some serious shit. This is the music of things gone terribly wrong, and yet, and yet it helps to have the pain and fucked upedness validated. It rather helps me get on with it anyway.

I've been morning my country instead of yet another dead lover, but it's the same principle, really. Of course "If you're still free start running away!" and "The Cellar Door is an Open throat." I wish my boom box still worked so I could curl up Around "Easy/Lucky/Free" again without the neighbors wanting to kill me.

* The new meds regime bought me four hours of sleep. I woke to find I am already sick from my allergy to prednisone, which doesn't surprise me at all. I do not know how bad it's going to get, as this is a tiny dose and it's been over twenty years since the other time. It is bad enough I'm already having trouble with basic functioning. If I drop stitches as it were, it's because I'm having trouble with things like stringing sentences together, keeping the prednisone shakes from interfering with things like typing, and sitting up. Unfortunately, lying down isn't an option either with these lungs as I'm already having to take way more drugs than I'm comfortable with to win four hours of prone breathing and I'm not willing to do more than that in a 24 hour period.

They have postponed the dolphin festival until March for me, which is terribly sweet of them, especially as I didn't ask them to, having thought at the time (Friday evening) that I'd be together enough to run my first event today. They cleverly saw better than I. No way am I well enough for one on one, let along the mental and physical demands of events. It is taking a frustrating long time just putting this together.

I fucking hate prednisone. I took the second pill anyway. Two more days of this to go.

Anyway, I apologize in advance for the commitments online and off that I am likely about to blow off by accident and what is likely to be shitty service in my feed. I can't remember exactly how long it took me to recover last time. I think I missed a week or so of work, but different doses and a was still an athlete then.

* The worst thing with prednisone for me is the combination of dizziness, heart palpitations, and extreme weakness. (I am not kidding when I say this is a drug i am really, really not supposed to be on and did not consent to lightly). There is a reason that even the very short trip to the bathroom is an exhausting ordeal when I am on it. A very kind Internet has sent me what looks like two or three days worth of Thai food via Vikingfoods, for which I am incredibly grateful. Thank you, my benefactor! It is a huge load off my mind that I won't have to cook like this.

* The sleep attempt failed, as every time I started to drift off to sleep, it was like sand was filling my lungs. I managed to score an emergency Doctor appointment. they nearly forced me to go to the emergency room instead, but I pointed out that's an 8-12 hour wait on a Saturday with me coughing in the waiting room with no access to treatment, which would not be pleasant for anybody. They ended up adding a couple more meds, one of which I am allergic to, but she thinks we can get away with four days at a low dose. (Not anaphalactic, but the last time I took it I was still a healthy athlete and was bedridden for a week, barely able to make it to the bathroom). I did manage a couple of cough interrupted hours of sleep with the new meds. They kept me all afternoon because they were worried about oxygen levels.

Poor Tavy his having a really hard time with it. He just wants to curl up on his human for a cuddle nap, but the human is making terrible sounds and was gone for hours and is not following the schedule and is clearly sick and can't lie still. It's starting to freak him out, I can tell.

* A few of you have asked recently, and I suspect others of you are curious, so here is the basic FAQ on the main things wrong with me (there are others, but these two are why I'm Federally disabled).

I have Ankylosing Spondalytis (which is an autoimmune disease similar to lupus and rheumatoid arthritis) and cystic fibrosis carrier syndrome, which means my lungs are weak, prone to damage, gradually degenerating on their own, and I catch basically everything airborne I'm exposed to. AS and CF Carrier are a bad combination as the CF carrier rules out a lot of the meds that help slow AS degeneration, and the AS means that my immune system is way more interested in eating bits of me it doesn't approve of like the cartilage in my spine than in fighting off the invaders my genetically borked lungs let in. There is a particularly brutal bronchitis going around. They are dropping like flies at area nursing homes. Like nursing home residents and AIDS patients, people like me tend to get hit hard in epidemics like this. It's normal. One day, I will catch something like this, my lungs will collapse and i will die. This is how my Mother went and her Aunt Ruth. My mother's sister with full blown CF died in college of pneumonia. Before antibiotics, people with cf carrier tended to die young of things like pneumonia, bronchitis, etc.. The antibiotic revolution let folks live a lot longer. Aunt Ruth was in her 70's. My Mother was 70. Not a bad span, but the quality of life is a lot lower. It is in the nature of it.

This infection is very serious, even by my standards, and I had MRSA in my lungs for six months that one time, but this isn't the one that will kill me.

Side Note: this is why it's Ableist to mock people for doing activism at home, not that any of my followers are likely to do such a thing, but it might help you explain it to friends. Not only is it physically painful and exhausting to me to go to things like protests and rallies in person, jeopardizing my ability to, say, feed and bath myself that week, but it also exposes me to pathogens in quantity my body flat out can't handle, and the more damage serious infections do, the more scarring on my lungs, the more undermined what passes for my immune system is, the more years I lose not only off my life span, but the more years I lose off my doesn't need a portable oxygen tank time, etc.. Rev. Barber, for example, is already a fucking hero if you are only counting the work he's done with moral Mondays. When you consider he is doing it with AS, and likely his every step is agony... yeah. I honor those of us with disabilities who go out there at greater cost and risk, but not all of us can do it. And that's just me. Consider someone who is agoraphobic or has serious anxiety or whose autism or SID make being in crowds incredibly fucking difficult. (I also happen to have SID and I really don't deal well with Strangers touching me which happens at big protests and marches). It's ablest to treat folks with extra challenges like this as lazy and mock us for choosing the sort of activism that better suits our strengths and doesn't come with a massive extra cost other people don't have to consider. We aren't slacktavists, we are people who are trying our hardest and it's a shitty thing to attack us for wanting to be able to, say walk to the toilet under our own power tomorrow, or not deal with a week of serious sensory over load when the person doing the mocking never has to make that kind of choice, and it's not like there aren't a whole host of things, like phoning Congress critters to complain that are also effective.

* Legion has a really interesting aesthetic, but if you are planning on watching it and haven't yet it includes attempted rape, suicide, and a lot of things that might be triggering around gas lighting and institutionalization. I really liked the Aubry Plaza character, which I am told is a middle aged man in the comics (which I haven't read) and they deliberately didn't change anything else about the character except age and gender, which is rather brilliant. I am not sure how I feel about the way the Institution is depicted and I am generally wary of the trope where a person is not mentally ill but institutionalized for power. I do plan to stick with it, because it's well executed and they really have gotten me interested in the mauin character and the hell is going on.

I am exhausted because I'm too sick too get much sleep, so I thought, ill go to bed early. I took all the precautions. I did a lung treatment, I took a hot epsom bath, letting the steam loosen things up. Unfortunately there was a drama with Tavy that undid the bath, but I had reasonable expectation of sleep. I carefully eased my way down to sleep position so as to stress my lungs as little as possible. I did everything right, but my lungs kept doing this thing that sounded like sucking up the last of a milkshake through a straw which felt terrible and hurt like you wouldn't believe, but I tried the controlled breathing trick, because sometimes, if I hold it long enough I can sleep with my ribs expanded. It hurts, but I often get a few hours of sleep out of it when things are bad. I drifted off to sleep, but I'm apparently too ill to keep that kind of physical control while unconscious. I woke up suffocating. I sorted that out, tried again, woke up suffocating with the feeling like someone had taken knives to the inside of my lungs. I propped myself up into the safest lung position and was tired enough I managed to drift off sitting up. Woke up suffocating immediately. Tried a couple other angles of sitting up, woke up suffocating.

Me: So if I fall asleep, I get knives in my lungs. Isn't this basically the plot of Nightmare on Elm Street?

I spent a couple of hours with the disciplined breathing trick, came out for some magic soup and Popsicle because I forgot and chewed a bite with the wrong teeth. I can manage as long as I stay awake, but how long can that last? I have to make it to Wednesday for a Doctor, or alternately if the antibiotics kick in for the lungs, I'll be fine. How bad does it have to get to constitute an ER grade Emergency? Squirrel's at work, so I couldn't go now even if I wanted to. If one goes and it isn't what insurance calls an Emergency, then they don't cover and I can't afford that. I am so fucking tired and i haven't had proper sleep in a week.

* Bronchitis/Sinus infection/Mouth Infection update: It rained and I was able to score emergency cancellation doctor appointment Thursday. I had next to no sleep, but it was clear I'd be in the emergency room if I didn't grab my window. I had to lie down all evening to recover. Squirrel drove me, but it was still a lot of shuffling about while coughing. Thanks to donations the car tabs are covered and I'm only projected to be about 80 under on my bills this month.

Today a friend dropped off some magic soup. I managed about a third of it, and will be eating it all weekend, which is normal for me. (Magic soup is a last resort and thus something I only do once every few years when it gets really bad. I think last time was during the MRSA). My mouth had healed enough overnight for me to chew a little, though I had to take a pain pill after.

The antibiotics are starting to work, but it'll be a couple of days before I know if these are the right ones for this infection set. However, I can't hear my lungs growling, etc when I am still, so that is real progress. I am pretty sure this antibiotic is working for the sinus infection and the sores in my mouth. The small ones have healed over night, the medium ones are down to nuisance and the really bad one is no longer very hot and tasting of serious infection, though it is still swollen and a bit mauled. It's the lungs I'm not sure of. I'm okay if I stay completely still except for my arms, but that is hard to do.

Tavy figured out with previous infections the difference between a normal cough and serious problem losing control of my limbs cough and also the sound I make when I am suffocating. Being a clever little button, he is up and off right away and when it's really bad he waits it out in another room. This is incredibly helpful as there is a lot of uncoordinated flailing and I could kick or fall on him if he clung. He sensibly waits until I quiet to come hang out. When I do get up, I make sure he gets lots of wild rumpus time with the strings to make up for all the still and quiet he's having to be. I'm still to sick to sleep properly, but overall, progress.

* They are censuring Elizabeth Warren for impugning Jeff Sessions by reading Coretta Scott King's letter from his last confirmation hearing in which Republicans found him too racist for the Federal judiciary into the current congressional record as part of his confirmation hearing for Attorney General. True things that are pertinent to his fitness to serve are being considered a slur, basically. If the truth is an insult, isn't that rather disqualifying? How can they hold fair hearings if evidence is barred on the grounds that it that shows he is unfit? How does this make any sense at all?

A white man silenced Coretta Scott King and censored her words during Black History Month.

Mitch McConnell, a white male Republican, wants to remind you that accurately pointing out evidence that someone is a racist is way more offensive than being one and taking away the right to vote from citizens of colour because of that racism.

Grrr.

I am a couple hours in on the Black Sails Commentary, but I can't guarantee speed with my head the way it is.

I am officially sick enough that medicinal tea tastes really good, and I am longing for magic soup because the queasy would be worth it to be able to lie down and breath without interruption.

* I keep thinking about Naomi Kritzer’s Libertarian Seastead Dystopia stories as I listen to him rant. Seriously, he thinks instead of proper clinical testing, we should just put new drugs on the market and see how many people die. "Trump FDA pick a 'seasteading' advocate, no medical background:"

* My lungs are at the full blown infection needs antibiotic stage. I HAD a Doctor's appointment tomorrow, but we had snow. So much snow. Leaving the house is out of the question dangerous for me given the physical realities, so I'm just going to have to hang on until Wednesday a week. Which is not good, given the Dolphin Festival where I have commitments. *facepalm*

* Me watching Father Brown: Ah. First episode and we have a predatory bisexual rapist trope.
Several episodes later: Father Brown sure is on site for a lot of murders. Are we sure he's not a serial killer? How big is this town anyway.? I mean that is a lot of murders for a small community isn't it? Are we absolutely sure Father Brown isn't a serial killer? How about Lady Felicia? I mean, she finds a LOT of bodies.
