* Antibiotic brain fog or not, today, I did necessary things. Bits of prep for Friday. Bits of cleaning. The surprise time sensitive bureaucracy that turned up last Friday. I was saved by my anal retentive copying of documents. No really. I make copies every scrap I need for the wave after wave of bureaucracy required to keep a household going at this poverty level and to keep all my disability stuff up to date. That means forms. That means documentation of any random thing the various agencies require.

Remember when I went to turn in my stuff to keep my property taxes frozen a the disabled person rate, I'm thinking last Friday? I stopped at the library to make copies of stuff in case they did not make their own. sometimes with the city, they copy what you hand them themselves, but you can't count on it and amoung other things, I was handing them my tax return, which I definitely need a copy of. So I made copies. They made copies. I had a spare tax return and proof of income to fold in with the surprise bureaucracy form, tucked away with all the other bureaucracy stuff I've had in that pouch since the start of December bureaucracy season.

There has been a bunch of extra bureaucracy things this year, because all the periodic reviews for various things happened to align.

Normally, all the stuff would be filed away by now, but I have a rule that I don't do that, until everything is completely cleared up because sometimes things like this come back wanting extra proofs or extra forms or what have you.

Exactly like happened this time.

Seriously, there is a reason I am anal retentive about paper work. The poorer and sicker you are the more you need and the less energy you have to play paperwork scavenger hunt.

This year's bureaucracy stack doesn't go away until the three lesser pending items are sorted and I get the confirmation letter on the bureaucracy I just put in the mail, because these folks in particular like both ambiguous directions and exact things that they do not spell out clearly on their forms. I don't trust them at all.

* It has been rather more excitement than we wanted here at the cat Asylum. I am still recovering from the illness, and while much improved, need a lot of extra sleep and lying still generally. So i did a bunch of that over the weekend, which is why I wasn't avaiable for MUSH and chat and the like. The resting up wold have been fine, except the internet when out at 1AM Monday early morning. You know, right when i was ready to reboot and post evening links.

It was out in our area until 6AMish. Helpful! I did a little housework, took a bath and tried to sleep. Ha! Lots of disruption. From being ill, from going to bed when I wasn't really tired, etc.. When Squirrel got home from work it woke me and it took three hours or so to get back to sleep. Fun! And then there was the phone and outside noises, and... I had theoretically ten hours to sleep in. I don't think I managed five.

Tavy emphatically did not want me leaving the house and kept climbing back on the second I stopped moving which made first meds and dressing complicated. I am of course in extra pain, and bits of me are not working particularly well.

I spent 20 minutes waiting for parking at forage, and no one on their whole block pulled out in that time. I was starting with almost no leg, so walking a few extra blocks wasn't an option. Five minutes to close and still no one even getting ready to leave, so I left, having wasted the gas and having entirely failed to get food. We are running low on things like bread and milk and fresh veg because I've been too ill to go mostly and am barely managing one a week. Did I even make it thee last week at all? I can't remember.

It was early for the dentist so I did the library run and turned in some bureaucracy I owe. I hen checked in at the dentist and read until it was my time. A half hour early is better than late, and also less gas.

I'm not phobic. I'm super relaxed about dentistry. I literally meditate and occasionally nap while my teeth are being worked on.

When I tell you this was a bad one? I am not fucking around. ( horrifying Dental Adventure under the cut: )

I was about ten minutes later than I hoped getting back, but with the vagaries of the bus system they hadn't been waiting long. I'd had the forethought to warn of the dentist and that i might be late if they were behind. I made tea and we hng all the solstice stuff. They will send pics, but not tonight.

Once I got home from dropping them off I took one of my stronger meds so I could eat. I have no expectation of getting through Monday's news, seeing as I haven't started prepping even as I wrote this and it's quarter to one. I'll post yesterday's links and see how far I can get before I crash.

The cats have had too much disruption and are all three in cling mode, poor buttons.

The bakery that sold them closed when I was away at college and I've never seen them for sale anywhere since. I lust after Ukrainian layered homey cake, eaten only once over a decade ago.

I want comfort foods, like latke, which I can make, but I can't safely eat any more. I want Thai green curry soup from that one place that I like but can't afford. I want my Grandmother's almond cookies and my Mother's sritz cookies, and that weird type of cake with the thin chocolate glaze the women of my family used to make this time of year, but I have not name for and so can't even look up a recipe.

Impossible foods. Sigh.

* Today I woke up from a dream about space superzombie NAZIs (fuckers were incredibly hard to kill, especially with space capsule robotic reacher grabber things, about fifteen minutes before the alarm so I might go foraging. Neither my friend nor I were in the mood for crowds or people's bullshit, so were were SOL in that sense, though the forage itself was reasonably successful. After we went and submitted my passport paperwork. Thanks again to the folks who contributed to efforts to get trans folk passports after the election of 45, as there was no way in hell i could afford the fees myself, but my friend handed over the charity sourced money orders and I watched with dismay the birth certificate I spent 14-15 months fighting to get from PA disappear into the bowels of the Federal Bureaucracy, likely for several months. *fingers crossed on the ID project, a five year bureaucratic Odyssey, maybe ending for real this Summer*

(For those not following the ID Saga, the easy bit was changing my State ID and Social security over. Name change was expensive, but is super smooth in my state. Birth Certificate was a fucking nightmare because I was foolishly born in Pennsylvania, which has very simple legal criteria to amend a birth certificate, but it's all a lie, as the actual bureaucrats impose a whole other extremely strict and transphobic system not stated in the law or on their web site. If you are trying to amend a PA Birth certificate and want to know the specific transphobic wording you need in your documents and extra criteria, PM and I will tell you how to work the fucking system).

* Russia is now claiming that Turkey's aggressive campaign to stop oil smuggling in the last year and their fighting against Daesh is all a clever ruse to hide them buying oil from Daesh. Meanwhile, Russian ally Assad is doing it openly, and in such quantity that he is their best customer. *side eye*

* So they found out what happened to that Air Asia flight. It seems that Air Asia refuses to do proper maintenance on their planes. The air rudder on this plane had gone out 23 times in the year previous to the crash, but rather than fix it properly, they kept bodging in back together badly. Pilots lodged repeated complaints that the plane wasn't safe to fly, which the company ignored.

So guess what happened? Yep, the air rudder failed yet again. The pilots, who didn't have the proper training for fixing it, were forced to attempt mid air repairs. In the process of trying to reboot it, they lost autopilot and the plane spiraled down into the ocean before they could stop it, killing all aboard.

I don't know anyone who was on that plane, but I know how angry I am at Air Asia executives just picturing it. I can only imagine how furious the families of the dead are. I wish the families all the best and I hope they get what revenge is available as justice isn't possible in a case like this.

* Today I spent an hour changing the garden over. There are a couple of things i need to do when there is more light, but it was productive and satisfying.

* I watched the NHK men's final out of Nagano. It was mostly mid-ranked skaters, but Jin Boyang, who is just out of juniors and a little immature in his choreography, skated brilliantly and will likely be a God in a year or two, as he jumps like a young Pleshenko and has way better and more graceful everything else.

It was Hanyu who completely blew me away though. Yuzuru Hanyu skated the shit out of a brilliant routine based on 10th Century Japan. He's the total package: athleticism and aesthetics. I had chills. It may have been the most beautiful skate I've ever seen. He got the highest score ever in both his short and long program. I officially have a new favorite skater.

* The South Korean MERS outbreak looks to be leveling off, with only one new infection this week. Twenty four are dead, 166 infected. There is one infection in Thailand. This is a disease that's been on my watch list for some time. It's airborne, which is always dangerous, but not that infectious unless you are spending a lot of time in an enclosed environment, like say a car, or a doctor's waiting room, or a bed/hospital room. The small cluster in the UK was a car trip and a hospital room, if I remember correctly. Most of the South Korean cases were caught in Doctor's offices by people in close contact with a sick person. The main vector is infected camels, which is why it is serious as fuck in the Middle east, but why we've managed for a few years with only this one serious outbreak. It is pretty deadly if you catch it, but we are lucky, this isn't even close to cold and/or flu infectious. I am watching the South Korean outbreak carefully. I am hoping that this really is it, and people haven't carried it out of country. I am very sorry for the families of the dead and for the infected. I am taking it seriously, but you don't see me panicking, even though if there were a serious outbreak in my region, odds are, I'd be infected and likely dead of it. This is because while I do live near Seattle, with it major international airport, I think there are decent odds of there not being a serious outbreak here, absent a mutation that ups the infectiousness. So yes, take reasonable precautions, like you should be doing anyway. Hand washing tends to cut down on things like colds and flu as well. If you are sick, try to stay home and wear a mask when you must go out to see a Doctor, which is just common courtesy. If you have been traveling in an infected area and/or drinking milk from sick camels, definitely see a doctor if you are having respiratory symptoms. Otherwise? Odds are you in no more danger from MERS than you were a year ago unless you have started traveling to infected areas in the last month.

* This is very necessary. Some of you have seen me referring to having to "pioneer a new Doctor." This is that thing trans people have to do, where you go to a new Doctor and get to find out the not not fun way if they are transphobes. Even if they are not shitty human beings, generally we, the patients, are required to educate the Doctor on both Trans 101 stuff and trans specific medical issues. No really. (This goes like quadruple for the mental health provider community, BTW.) Trans patients, regardless of what issue we are going to the doctor for including when we are deathly ill are expected to explain politely about pronouns and dosages. It is often the case that the Doctor knows nothing about trans bodies and has to look up whatever medical situation you happen to be having, which is not particularly helpful the day your blood turns scary viscous or you collapse from an infection or the month (in the case of someone I knew personally) they didn't bother checking if the person was MTF or FTM and reversed all the medications. Even Doctors of good will who do the research when trans patients start turning up are basically teaching themselves a whole branch of medicine. (Doctors of good will will generally get a flood of new trans patients after they treat the first one well, because as a group we have a pretty kick ass word of mouth system because we have to for literal survival reasons. It is super important to know: so and so is excellent with trans women, but discriminates against trans men, so and so is an asshole but will give you your meds only you need to know your numbers and doses because the Doctor will routinely mis-prescribe unless you watch like a hawk, so and so only does meds, so-and-so is full service and treats us like people. People can be seriously hurt or even killed by not knowing this stuff about which Doctors are safe and for what.) Keep in mind that these are medical services people are having to pay for. Psychiatrists think nothing of making patients pay them for the patient educating them on trans issues. Hospitals consider it appropriate and ethical to mock trans patients and let them bleed to death on their doorstep because we aren't really people and so there is no need to provide life saving medical care after car accidents and hate crimes. This is the reality of trans health care in this country and if you don't think that is fucked up you are part of the problem.

(I am still sick, but I am reasonably functional if i don't overstretch and likely not a danger to healthy people). Today I had to mail the late payer and get goosh for Hector. I added in a library run, as it's near the Post Office. By the time I did those things, fed cats and fish, and made collards I was too tired for much else. Somehow between the early evening watering and sunset, the first lily bloomed. They are late this year as their stems are really long. The first lily was a solo bloom in the maroon that is not quite black. Another looks very close, but is on a multiple head stem. I will check tomorrow.
