The self-declared “presidency” of Jeanine Áñez has revived the old oligarchy’s race hatred and the barbaric practice of Indian killing, the collective punishment of the nation’s Indigenous majority for daring to defy a centuries-old racial order of apartheid and oppression. Since the ousting of Bolivia’s first Indigenous president Evo Morales, security forces have carried out at least two massacres of Indigenous people protesting the military coup."

* It has been rather more excitement than we wanted here at the cat Asylum. I am still recovering from the illness, and while much improved, need a lot of extra sleep and lying still generally. So i did a bunch of that over the weekend, which is why I wasn't avaiable for MUSH and chat and the like. The resting up wold have been fine, except the internet when out at 1AM Monday early morning. You know, right when i was ready to reboot and post evening links.
It was out in our area until 6AMish. Helpful! I did a little housework, took a bath and tried to sleep. Ha! Lots of disruption. From being ill, from going to bed when I wasn't really tired, etc.. When Squirrel got home from work it woke me and it took three hours or so to get back to sleep. Fun! And then there was the phone and outside noises, and... I had theoretically ten hours to sleep in. I don't think I managed five.
Tavy emphatically did not want me leaving the house and kept climbing back on the second I stopped moving which made first meds and dressing complicated. I am of course in extra pain, and bits of me are not working particularly well.
I spent 20 minutes waiting for parking at forage, and no one on their whole block pulled out in that time. I was starting with almost no leg, so walking a few extra blocks wasn't an option. Five minutes to close and still no one even getting ready to leave, so I left, having wasted the gas and having entirely failed to get food. We are running low on things like bread and milk and fresh veg because I've been too ill to go mostly and am barely managing one a week. Did I even make it thee last week at all? I can't remember.
It was early for the dentist so I did the library run and turned in some bureaucracy I owe. I hen checked in at the dentist and read until it was my time. A half hour early is better than late, and also less gas.
I'm not phobic. I'm super relaxed about dentistry. I literally meditate and occasionally nap while my teeth are being worked on.
When I tell you this was a bad one? I am not fucking around. I should have realized something was up when they switched the young just took her boards hygienist out in favour of a more experienced one after the Novocaine. The second hygienist explained some new tech they were thinking of using. Red flag number two. Then she explained what she was about to try to do and why.
So it turns out today's cavity was around an old filling, which about 2/3rds of mine are. It was also in the top back molar, right at the gum line. She spent half an hour trying to get a medicated cord into the gum. I have a high pain threshold. I also have partial expression of the gene that makes people with two mostly immune to Novocaine. I just have the one, so it is less effective, wears off faster. I've had a couple teeth drilled with nothing. I had seven stitches put in my thumb as a kid after the Novocaine wore off. I could have asked for the extra jab, but I had a person coming over for later and it was still sort of numb, which I judged to be fine. For a normal filling. I could feel her mangling the gum just fine. She kept apologizing. When I could talk, I told her to not worry about the pain, just do what she needed to do. She tried everything. Different positions and angles, with and without cheek guard, etc.. She gave up and we sat together listening to the patient ahead of me bellowing.
She alerted him that she couldn't do it. They give him the hardest stuff, because he is the most experienced dentist they have, so I hadn't seen him before. So he started on trying to get the cord in with her to help with extra instruments and the magnifying lenses. I'm guessing another teen or so minutes mangling my gums, plus a complicated set of experiments to get things in place for the drilling, which hurt worse than the cord based mangling. They kept apologizing. I kept telling them to just do what they needed to do.
The drilling? Not at long as getting an impacted wisdom tooth extracted, but the second longest single tooth procedure I ever had including having the back bottom two molars basically reconstructed. It hurt of course, me being only half numb, but I did not want them delaying or worse, moving any of the apparatus. So I did that thing I do when the pain is bad, but nothing can be don't for it, which is basically a semi meditative state, which I think alarmed the hygienist from her reaction. It was not as bad as the second time I had a tooth drilled without bothering with Novocaine, but worse than the first.
I admit to actually saying yay, when they finally got to the resin. It was not ironic, but a spontaneous expression of relief. When it was over I really did thank them again and tell them one last time that I appreciated how hard it was etc.. Like really, I wasn't kidding. I think I successfully hid my pain from them, as she kept trying to tell be how damaged my gum is.
I was about ten minutes later than I hoped getting back, but with the vagaries of the bus system they hadn't been waiting long. I'd had the forethought to warn of the dentist and that i might be late if they were behind. I made tea and we hng all the solstice stuff. They will send pics, but not tonight.
Once I got home from dropping them off I took one of my stronger meds so I could eat. I have no expectation of getting through Monday's news, seeing as I haven't started prepping even as I wrote this and it's quarter to one. I'll post yesterday's links and see how far I can get before I crash.
The cats have had too much disruption and are all three in cling mode, poor buttons.
Update: I actually caught up on the Monday essentials.
