* Some of you may have noticed that while I've linked to discussions of the Black Lives Matter/Bernie sanders stuff, I haven't commented directly. There's a reason for that.

Way back when there was the big Makah whaling debate, I was in the Middle of my second Master's degree at a very left college, where this was an issue causing great distress. In one of my classes we were asked to pick a side and explain briefly why. I was one of the few who took the Makah side and I spoke last. I no longer remember my exact words, but it was something along the lines of "Given the horrific quality of decisions white people have insisted on making for Native people against their will, I feel it is my job as a white person to listen when Native people need something for their spiritual well being and cultural preservation and get out of their way."

Yes, I support Bernie Sanders candidacy and feel that his policies would be better for America than anyone else currently in the race, but I also think that given how many people are being murdered by police thugs in this country, it is my job as a white person to shut the hell up and listen when black people speak about their anger and pain and what needs to change in this country. I hate tone arguments generally. They are so often used against my people too. I particularly hate when people use the angry black person stereotype to try to silence voices that absolutely need to be heard. The Black Lives Matter and Say her Name messages need to be heard and I honestly think that as a white person it is my job to listen and get out of the way. Am I happy to see more candidates being challenged? Yes. But I also absolutely get why people so often silenced will take any platform they can find in hopes of being listened to, and honestly Bernie Sanders is way more likely to actually listen and adapt than the candidates on the right, particularly the openly Nativist ones. This is why I've mostly just been signal boosting, because I feel like signal boosting is the best thing i can possible contribute to the conversation.

* I have lost track of how long I've had this infection. I'm thinking April? I can't go back to my lung guy until I pay my back copay, but my lungs have just moved from lacy to thick. This has been the Summer of endless fever. Still no word from the government. Either I'm fucked or I will be able to finally catch up on basic things I can't afford like medical copays. They said June or July, which I took to mean August, but as August burns past.... I need this settled.

I am sick enough now that between that and the heat I am in random sleep pattern where I get no say in when and how long I sleep. Hence the random availability and posting times.

* I often do this thing I call "slow film festivals." This is where I pick a central actor/director/theme and order films from the library at a rate of two or three at a time, mostly working through the county catalog, but also ordering important items as necessary via ILL. I generally have two or three slow film festivals going at once, and depending on the number of items and availability, an individual slow film festival can take as little as a month or in one case as long as two years. (I have been doing personal non-fiction research projects of a similar type pretty much since I learned how to read, whether or not I am in academia. Sometimes these coincide as with my 17th-18th, mostly Restoration era drama/Poc in England project, but sprawling across two centuries on tangents that occur to me thing. Look, I'm a geek and I never claimed to be otherwise, for all my wild personal life when I was still well enough to have one.)

Anyway, as I had to quit Hannibal in season two because it got too triggery and I really liked A Royal affair, and people were saying interesting things about Valhalla, I have been doing a Mads Mikkelsen slow film festival. The more I watch, the more impressed I am. his rage is stunning and he is so precise and often deadpan playful. He does this interesting thing with his eyes, where one moment they are warm and inviting and the next flat and dead. I still do not know how I feel about some of the films of his I watched (movie about a delusional and relentlessly optimistic preacher and wildly problematic art film about Vikings in the New world, I am looking at you), but his performances utterly fascinate me. I think he's now on my short list of best actors in my rough age rage, possibly the top of the list. So far my favorite is Flame and Citron: twisty and complicated and often ambiguous movie about the Danish resistance in which it is hard to tell who to trust. Seriously, this film is fascinating and I expect to be still poking at it quietly in my head days from now.

* One of my long term complaints about US movies and TV is that so much takes place in California or New york. Yes those are important places. Yes, that is where the big name actors are. It is also sort of boring both narratively and visually. Yes, there are plenty of good stories that are specific to New York and LA, and that is fine, but specific is the key here. By making nearly everything about these two places they become vague and generic. Sure, the boom in shooting in Vancouver and Toronto added some slightly different vegetation and the idea of mists, but really, because everything is shot in a few places often pretending to be others, you lose specificity. A generic California Park looks nothing like anything actually in Annapolis, Maryland. I was bored in Annapolis a little over two years, trust me, I know. (I'm looking at you CriminalMinds). Reusing the same New York Street soundstage in California over and over makes it into Wallpaper. Each city has it's own look and feel and voices. Each city has stories and visuals and accents that can make a thing look specific, feel specific, and be more interesting instead of bland to the eye, the ear, the mind. What do I mean? Things like the Wire, where it really is Baltimore and a lot of the talent is from there so you get a variety of real Baltimore accents mixed with the more generic north east ones. Things like The Only Lovers Left Alive and It Follows using the unique look of Detroit's ruins and lost in time neighborhoods. Things like the Killing being so very PNW. Things like the Six Sense being a very, very Philly movie in look and feel and accent. Imagine if we shot more movies and TV in New Orleans, or Chicago, or Charleston! Imagine if we really spread out and told stories about all sorts of places around this country.

I think there is a similar problem with most of the stuff coming out of England when I was growing up. It was all shot at Shepperton, or a handful of same locations. (Look! Another seen at that quarry! Look, that same forest they shoot all the forest scenes!) The voices and faces were more diverse than Hollywood was shooting, and there'd be the occasional more lavish production, but there was often a sameness about things, and certain accents were waaaay more common than others. I love that that's been changing, that shooting in Cardiff became a thing, that shows and movies are getting shot in more cities and on different bits of landscape, that I seem more lead actors with regional accents in stories not specifically making a big deal about so and so being Welsh or Scots or whatever.

Which brings me to the Revenger's Tragedy. (I'm on a 17th and 18th Century UK kick just now. I'd read the play before, at some point, though the sense memories of things like sitting on fairly generic PNW apartment stairs reading it are not helping me pin it down further.) It's a Jacobean tragedy, a strange transitional thing both in language and style of drama, full of fury and deep class based anger. Imagine my delight on discovering they made a Dystopian future version shot in Liverpool with Eccleston, Izzard, and Jacobi, and a mostly Liverpudlian and northern cast and crew. All those rich northern accents that are closer to period pronunciation anyway! All those fascinating specific to Liverpool instead of generic looking locations! Absolutely wild Repo Man the Genetic Opera adjacent costumes! ILL delivered a copy into my sweaty little hands this week and I have been enthralled.

I am not at all surprised they had trouble getting backing, because it is not an idea that plays to generic "things we know worked already" studio head thinking, but wow, does this work! The class tension, the North vs. South tension, the raw old school punk style fury echoed in the costuming and sets work brilliantly together. This is a violent, angry play, with some stunningly beautiful language tucked in between the macabre bits and the ultra violence. This is a visually arresting movie and the visuals work beautifully with the theme. The Northern voices flinging and winging that dialog are just perfect. I am now having trouble imagining how any conventional staging could compete with this. The specificity of setting it apologetically in Liverpool made this film and made clear the way a 400ish year old revenge play still pretty damned relevant. Bravo! This was such a brilliant idea for a film, and not one I would have thought of in a million years.

* The first two white lilies bloomed yesterday. They are massive and smell amazing. The lobelias have been joined by a bunch of the salad greens and herbs that are flowering just now. * I think FOX news getting to arbitrarily decide who gets to run for President on the Republican side is a terrible idea. Look, the currect primary system is a mess. caucuses are terrible for reasons I've written about elsewhere and Iowa and New Hampshire are not representative of the country as a whole. (I think we should have five states, one in each of six regions, be first on a rotating basis. it would be a lot fairer and make more sense). Letting Roger Ayles personally pick between candidates with significantly smaller poll gaps than the margin of error is vastly worst.

Here is what I think they should do, and I'd be suggesting the same it it were the Democrats with a field of 20+. It would both be fairer and make for pretty amazing television. Take the whole field of vaguely credible candidates. Figure out what a manageable number per heat would be. I'm going to say six here, but someone better at this might adjust that. Assign a number from most popular to least. Pair them up so that the say, top three and the lowest three are in the last heat together. The next highest and lowest are together in the second to last heat and so on. Run a couple of heats a night until you run out. Everybody gets a chance to have their say and a little spot light time. Everyone gets a chance to be brilliant or terrible or whatever. The people get a good look at what they are like under pressure. The mid-level candidates get a chance when eyes are fresh. Odds are the last debate will be _fascinating_ and get lots of attention. It's fair, it's democratic, and it's likely going to make great sound bites to please the network and the pundits. Can we do that please?

* The crop of maroon lilies was huge this year and they looked glorious backlit by sunlight. the last of them is dying now, but the white and pinks are in various stages of getting ready to bloom.

* I've been of the opinion for a number of years that Spiderman and Superman need a ten year moratorium on reboots. They are boring. No one has thought of anything new or clever to do with them in movies. I would make an exception for a Poc Spiderman that weaves in new themes that could go with that, but yet another Straight is WASP Spiderman is dead dull. The other day I thought of a thing they could do to make Superman interesting to me again. Hear me out.

The answer is not to make Spiderman gritty and assholish, which was what DC was doing last I checked early in the comic book (New 52 Reboot). No, the answer is right there in the origin of the character himself. Two Jewish teenagers living in a mostly immigrant community in the 1930's came up with him. 1. They were worried about the rise of Hitler in Germany. They were worried about bullies on both an individual and an institutional scale. Later, Superman fought the KKK. Seriously, they used actual KKK passwords and ritual to mock the real KKK and by fictional Superman fighting them, correctly depicted the Real world KKK as the villains they were and are. Bullies, ant-Semites, segregationists, lynch mobs. Superman at is best has always been standing up for people who have less power against those with more power and privilege trying to use that against people. Superman at his best is about justice. 2. Superman is an undocumented immigrant, who came to this country fleeing a cataclysm that destroyed nearly his whole race, something of very immediate and personal importance to those writers. Superman in his origin is both a refugee and an immigrant. He came to this country, worked hard, and attempted to fit in. DC's ideal super heroic American is a working class immigrant who loves this country and fights constantly to make it better. By fighting bullies.

Can you think of any hard working immigrants being bullied who are in need of protection from modern racists and modern Lex Luthors trying to exploit and harm people who work for a living? Because I an think of a whole lot of groups that could use super man right now. I can think of a whole lot of working people, both immigrant and born here who could use justice right now. So why not do that? Put the justice back into the Justice League. Make Superman relevant again. Cast someone with a Latino, a South Asian, South West Asian, or North African ethnic background. Have him stand up for ordinary folk: for voting rights, for people striking for a living wage, for people being attacked for how they look or what they wear or what sort of accent they have. We have plenty of real life 1% super villains out there. Why not spin a little of that evil in to modernize Superman's enemies. I think it could work, and it would actually get me to shell out scarce coin to see a Superman movie.

* I am having a little trouble connecting to this season of True Dectective, but it is growing on me, mostly because I was right about the CHiP guy and the woman cop is growing on me. I thing the first one was so visually intense for me and both the language and the images were so poetic that it is hard for the more sprawling and less poetic sequel to compete as far as initial impact. That doesn't mean it' not interesting, just that it's not talking to my hindbrain the way something with the right sort of visual textures does. Could someone with better eyes and/or a larger television tell me what that guy's teeth said? I couldn't read them.

* I tried to watch the Canal, but was thwarted by the shit quality of the sound recording and editing. The child was entirely incomprehensible and the adults were so soft and mumbly compared with the background that it took huge concentration to try to work out what they were saying. Given the extremely poor sound quality, the artistic choice to forgo subtitles of the spoken dialog in favor of rapidly scrolling, but admittedly creepy mildly tangential ghost dialog was an unfortunate one. If seen creepy whispered ghostly commentary on the main action work before in film to good effect, but it would have worked better if they had fitted it in the gasps in main dialog instead of running in in competition with it. I could not process both at once. Really they needed 1. Way better sound quality. 2. Proper captioning. 3. Way less ghost dialog, preferably in the main dialog gaps and with clear delineation of speaker also in the subtitles. As it was it was wildly disorienting and exhausting to try to follow and I simply gave up about when they showed the first ghost film fragments. I am not sure if the sound in the screen version was so badly done, but the DvD is outright impossible and I suspect serious flaws in the manufacturing process.

* I finished Point of Dreams today. If Knives was the weakest of the books, this is by far the strongest. I loved Hopes, as you will remember, but Dreams had the advantage of not having to carry the weight of nearly as miuch world building. Hopes had to slide a whole incredibly rich culture and unusual magic design in, along with character development, politics, and a really complex mystery. Hopes managed it deftly, but Dreams was able to elaborate on that firm foundation without having to carry nearly as much weight and as a result could focus more on another complex mystery and solid character development. Dreams also had the advantage of taking placer in a 17th-18th century style theater environment which is inherently fun. I love how the magic system works and we get to learn more about it here, along with more about the way the politics and society work. There was one flaw, which was several passages were repeated in different chapters, which irritated me both times I caught it. Likely it needed another editing pass with fresh eyes. There was also a continuity issue with Mirremay and the Court of Knives, which couldn't really be helped as Point of Knives was written later than Dreams, but took place before it. Otherwise, this was brilliant, and mostly took two days to read because I had things like needed to spend all afternoon and early evening today on foraging and the Doctor.

* I'm pretty sure I have heat exhaustion again. Ugh. And I couldn't sleep at all this morning.

I was on time for the appointment. It took an hour and a half to get me to a purgatorial exam room with a broken exam chair. I ended up spending most of my hour wait on the floor as it hurt to much to sit in the thing even if I could spin in it. they were actually genuinely sorry about the wait, which was a surprise. I'm not used to Doctors caring how late they keep you. Anyway, my hearing's still not quite right in that ear, but the drum healed clean. I have the usual outer ear infection which he actually insisted on treating and even gave me free medicine for. I nearly always have an outer ear infection and generally only bother with meds if I have a middle ear infection or serious sinus infection as I pretty much always have a sinus infection anyway. I consider them minor inconveniences I have to put up with like random fevers, constant pain or limbs randomly not working. Still a hundred dollars of free ear meds is free ear meds so I am taking them. Apparently I need to get my head examined. In this case he is trying to get pre-authorization for a head CT scan as I haven't had one in ages and they might actually be able to do something about the chronic sinusitis. CT is so much nicer than MRI. I get a lot of MRIs, which are loud and terribly boring. CT is nothing.

The hives are so bad and widespread it is hard to find skin in the correct areas for the electrodes. There is no undamaged skin at all in the target area on the upper left, so I have to put the new applications on top of rash, and soon I will be out of areas with plain rash instead of hives. Right side is doing better. the worst hives are lower left, but are more localized. The rash is turning up on random bits of left arm, though I put no adhesive there, which is worrisome.

* I had no interest in seeing Gravity when it was in theaters. It looked like all special effects and cheesiness from the commercials, but having a chance to watch free a few weeks ago, I gave it a shot. It was better than I expected. They didn't do either of the two extremely boring things I expected. Sandra Bullock definitely had the acting chops for this sort of demanding performance. It gave me the good bits of what I was expecting and hardly any of the bad. Was it great art? No, but it was beautiful and one of the better disaster movies I've seen. Gravities commercials mildly misrepresented it in hopes of tricking a general audience in. It clearly succeeded admirably at that.

I mention this, because I watched Interstellar this weekend, and their commercials clearly misrepresented the film to a huge extent. We are talking Lady in the Water level of commercial completely failing to convey the sort of film actually in the theater. To me, the commercials were a bit boring and were a strong disincentive to spend money on a movie when I was scrambling for ever penny just to feed my elderly birmin. The commercials said: here is a nothing special space movie.

The commercials lied. This is surprisingly complex and suspenseful, despite me guessing the two big plot twists well in advance. This is a movie with a great deal of heart and a lot to say. This movie was both way more thoughtful and a way better action movie than I expected. I love that it took time with character and world building in the fitrst third so that we actually give a shit about what happens in the other two thirds. Thank you, Tibicina and her gentleman friend for convincing me that this was worth while, as I would have missed a real gem otherwise.

* Personal Clarification: while it is never okay to out trans people, I am as out as I can manage. In all my social media I am clearly labelled non-binary trans. Therefore, it is okay to point someone to me on social media as a non-binary trans person. Similarly, I am completely out RL and walk around wearing buttons to that effect all winter long. (I would wear them in summer, but they do not stick well to my messenger bag). My pronouns are ze, zir, zim. (If I owned buttons with my pronouns on them, I'd wear those too.) I don't mind you correcting pronouns when I'm not around. I generally don't bother with the pronoun thing with service workers as it's frankly exhausting to everyone involved, but otherwise, have at. Again, this is just me. I have next to nothing to lose. I'm federally disabled and so can't get fired for transness. I live in one of the safest places a trans person can live, and what danger there is I willingly accept. Most people are not in my position so best to be checking individually with your trans friends as to their preferences.

There is one exception to my open door policy: I prefer people not cross the streams on my RL and online persona. I prefer that random internet people not be given my last name or information about my specific address, etc.. I like to decide which identifying details I give out. This is because I have been tracked that way before, and while it turned out all right, there is a chance it might not next time. Some of you know me rl and on the Internet. A handful of you who I've known a long time on the Internet have my personal details. I like to be the gatekeeper of who has my legal name and physical address. Beyond that? Again, have at it. I live a very transparent sort of life.

Just keep in mind that the the outness/safety balance is one every single LGBTQIA person has to decide for themselves and robbing people of safety (Except in the case of rabidly anti-gay gay public figures, where it becomes a community safety issue) is never okay. Never out private people. Never out public figures who are not posing a clear and present danger to the rights and safety of the rest of us.

* The bureaucracy was mostly an exhausting failure. Because my doctor didn't take five minutes to fill in two simple lines and a signature by 3or4 PM Tuesday, I had to go back and get her to do another thing because they changed requirements on the first. Neither of my doctors were in, so I wasted gas and more than an hour on failing to get my parking tags. I did manage to get some fees returned by the bank, but not all of them (enough to get detergent and my shoes fixed when it clears), and picked up margarine and pie cherries while I was out, so it wasn't a total failure, but it took literally all morning in pain and in the heat while burning gas we couldn't afford to achieve very little.

* I am really liking the Crimson Fields so far. I know, I know, hospital drama is really not my thing, but I also have thing thing about WWI. (It was this massive generational trauma that pretty much shaped the course of the 20th Century and yet we barely teach it, barely study it. My theory is that it was so damaging people simply tried to pretend it didn't happen and by the time people were ready to talk about it and analyze it, society had been overtaken by a whole new set of shocks. It is hugely important and mostly overlooked). Anyway, I'll generally give a WWI thing at least a try. This quickly won me over with strong characterizations, a willingness to talk about class and gender issues, the horrific treatment of people with PTSD, and all sorts of associated societal and psychological issues both explicit and hinted at. I'm two episodes in, but am hopeful it will continue strong.

* I grew up on the original 1975 Poldark. Indeed, I used to own both series on VHS, which my Mother gave me as a gift. What with VHS being long over as a format, I haven't seen it in a while, but I'm very familiar with the old version. I was incredibly excited when I heard about an Aidan Turner reboot, both because I like Aidan Turner and I think Ross Poldark is perfect for his acting skill set, and it finally started airing on PBS. I am two episodes in, so I can only comment on what's happened so far. Aidan is exactly as good as I expected and honestly, I think his Ross is better than the original because it is more nuanced. I say this honestly as a fan of the original. The huge physical difference between original Elizabeth and Verity and the new version was rather a shock, but once I got over it, they really grew on me. I decided that new Elizabeth in particular is in an improvement because this actress and framing really sells the way Elizabeth is constrained by societal norms and finances, whereas old Elizabeth read more as an indecisive drip. Seriously, Mom and I never could see her appeal in the old one, especially once a kick ass alternative showed up and started being awesome. This Elizabeth is tortured by her conflicting desires, needs, and expectations. She is more person and less object and thus more sympathetic. It is subtle, but it makes all the difference. With Verity and with Prudy, I have no strong opinion yet, though I somewhat favor old Verity, who felt better developed, and old Prudie who actually had a part instead of being overshadowed by her husband. They feel backgrounded, deemphasized, even in the second episode where Verity has major plot. As a result, it felt rushed. I dramatically prefer old Francis to new. Old Francis was charming and thus fundamentally tragic. New Francis is practically a non-entity. I like Old Jud, way better. I get that softening the accent makes it easier to market in the Americas, but I like my Jud slurring a thick Cornish peasant accent, a goblinlike echo of Joesph out of Wuthering Heights. I just do. The Warleggans in the new version really work for me. Daddy Warleggan is very like the old. This George Warleggan is more subtle, a different interpretation, and one that works beautifully with the way the new show is designed. Old George Warleggan is just right in the '70's show's context; this George works best with this version. I haven't decided about new Demelza yet. Her line readings are very like Old Demelza's, but she's taking longer to gel, I think because they so deemphasized Jud and Prudie. She hasn't got enough to bounce off of and Demelza really needs that to shine. The bits that are there are adequate, but in the old show, we loved her right away; here I don't. I look at her and think, "You used to be my favorite, why aren't I feeling anything for you?" Either this is a massive problem or it's deliberate. I can see artistic reasons why they might want to do it, but it still is rather painful for me as someone who is an old school fan. *fingers crossed that when they do make their move it is stunning* So overall, I am really sucked in, but it's Demelza that pretty much makes or breaks a Poldark retelling, and I'm not sold on her yet the way I am on this version of Ross Poldark.

If you chum the water for fishing right next to where people are flailing about in the water like tasty seals, the occasional shark will get confused and accidentally attack a significantly less delicious human. Killing the sharks is terrible for the environment and it is cruel to invite them with lots of bloody bait and flailing and then murder them for following their instincts.

* I'm really struggling physically, and can't leave my room until the evening cool. On the upside, we captured another incident on the monitor. I'd prefer we caught at least one more between now and the fifteenth, which sounds terrible, but they can't address problems they can't see and there is a threat of another forty days and I'm raising new welts every day now from the adhesive.

* During my heat confinement, I read Point of Knives and watched the Theory of Everything. Point of Knives is a novella bridging point of Hopes and Point of dreams. It has a neat little mystery in it and has a nicely handled gay romance element showing how we get from "too bad he's straight" in the first novel and what I am told will be a full relationship in Dreams. The book is spare as the heavy world building was deftly folded into the first one and the mystery is less epic, but I liked it well enough to read in two sittings.

Theory of Everything was quite good and I appreciated it addressing agency for people with disabilities and the issue of sexuality. So often our culture desexualizes people with disability and this doesn't. It was also beautifully shot and acted. Still, Imitation Game spoke to me more intensely. It had a much tighter plot and theme. Not inappropriately, the "Theory of everything" was a bit unfocused and sprawling. I suspect it is a matter of taste, and I honestly think they were both very good.

The Supreme court blocked the Texas law intended to close nearly all the women's health clinics. Yay! They also blocked the EPA from limits on power plants. Boo! To my horror, they are allowing the states to continue using the drugs in three botched execution last year on the grounds that the death row inmates did not suggest an alternative, the fact that it is a slow "cruel and in human " way to kill people being immaterial.

* So today was the suck. I had so much trouble breathing that the four hours sleep I had scheduled were not restful and I hurt myself holding my ribs in guard position and breathing with my abdomen in my sleep. (Seriously, the human body is not good at holding the ribs at full expansion for 4-5 hours. All sorts of muscles are badly strained.) I dragged myself up and out into the heat and pollen. I'm been bad with heat since I got heat stroke in '86, and I am very light sensitive. I did pick up MrBumblepants and his roommate on time and we all went foraging. The line was massive and the heat and light were rough, but the dude in line in front of us was more stressful. I want to be clear that he was not dangerous and I doubt this was flirting. He was just the human equivalent of an untrained Labrador retriever: no sense of boundaries, not to bright, aggressively social, well meaning, exhausting, and in my personal space. It is nothing personal at all. I do not like being touched by strangers. I do not like being touched in the heat. I do not like being touched in the heat by people I am fucking. now imagine how much I don't like being touched by exhausting strangers in wilting heat on a day where I'm not sure when I'm going to suddenly not be able to breath again hen I am in serious pain and the sun is assaulting me. He only did it a couple of times and one was accidental. Again, it was social touching, not sexual harassment. He clearly just had no idea of the socially approved physical distance between strangers in this culture and was lonely and wanted to be in a conversation, OMG! And the thing is, if he had been sexually harassing me, or if he had pushed it harder, or been a predator, or done something more egregious I would have
given him what for. If he'd laid hands on my companions beyond the hand shaking *shudder* that we are all forced to endure periodically, even if for me that is intense and about as intimate as a blowjob. (I am super touch sensitive because of my sensory wiring. I'm not autistic, but I have the sensory wiring that generally goes along with autism, and things like seams and textures are a big deal for me.) The thing is, it was a long fucking hour in the heat, and I put this guy in the class with the lonely older people who want to talk on the bus and touch your arm. Getting him (and thus his elderly and frail Mother who he lived with to take care of her, seriously, she almost passed out in the line and I was worried by her condition, and her sitting inside in the shade while he waited was fair as fuck) tossed out of the forage line because he couldn't read social cues and was lonely for conversation with someone not related to him felt like an asshole thing to do, given I could endure it, and given how pretty clearly unintentional it was. So I was polite about it and made sure he focused on me and wasn't crowding the other two. Unfortunately, he stuck close to them once we were separated inside.

Anyway, I got enough cat food for hector to eat for the week on the way to taking them home, got to the doctor on time, but had to wait an hour in the hot waiting room. I was so wilted I forgot to hand her the simple disabled parking renewal form (I qualify under two criteria. The renewal form is super simple). The heart thing turns out not to be too much of a certain med. There is worry my hormones may be trying to kill me again, so more blood in September instead of waiting the usual six months. Then library, and post office, oil for the car as it's been burning hot, and fish store for micro-pellets. It was this point I remembered the damned disabled parking permit paperwork. They were still open and I took it back, but she had no time to fill it out, as she was now two hours behind. I had to relinquish it and hope they will not forget it. Then home to the oven like apartment. I did manage to put the forage away, do dishes, do basic stuff for cats, fish, and plants, but it was too hot to eat more than a snack for meds and with the power outage situation, the TV was out, and I felt like shit.

So, yes, we are having frequent power outages. I am hiding in my room from heat and pollen. As a result I'm going to be behind on nearly everything.

I did manage to get the litters and buckets done and a salad when I briefly emerged, but I'm cutting my losses and going to try to get a shower and sleep. If the world burned down tonight, I missed it. I did finally get to watch the Imitation Game. (If a movie came out after last June, odds were I had not money to see it until it turned up at the library. The line for the Imitation Game was 200+ people long when I joined it). It was really good, but I'm not up to being coherent about it. Good Night, Folks.
