* What is going on with the news postings? Basically, between the War and my health stuff, I not managing to post fast enough and I've got a ridiculous amount of the non-war links piling up. I am doing my best to rectify it, particularly where it comes to election, legislative, coup attempt, and LGBTQIA+ news, bit it always comes down to a race between the stuff already scaffolded, the stuff prepped, and the stuff coming in. I'm going to have to cut off the aggregate without most of the LGBTQIA+, science etc. news, but I am too tired to do that as of 4/1. I must sleep sometime. * Re: Cawthorn's Orgies: 1. Madison Cawthorn is a known and frequent liar. That being said, 2. He has corroboration from admittedly very shady roger Stone.

3. This is from the '80's and I have zero ways of knowing if it is still the case, but I knew a guy who used to do gigs as a bartender/sex worker at DC Parties involving lawmakers and the claims Cawthorn is making. Before you ask, no, I don't know which lawmakers of the period went to these parties as he never named names. He just said Republicans and democrats hired him. Again, hearsay from the late eighties, so take it with a grain of salt. I'm just saying that it is possible that Cawthorn's claims are at least partially true. This is not the same as saying they are, just that I wouldn't be surprised.

4. I admit that the way the republicans are reacting looks more like panic at getting called out on something at least partially true than innocent people reacting to lies, but again, this is a subjective response.

5. The contrast between this total freakout, whatever the veracity of the claims, and their lack of reaction reaction to literal Nazi and Nazi adjacent statements and behavior within their caucus is in itself a kind of indictment. Just saying.

* Our best reconstruction of what happened was the injury Wednesday caused serious inflammation, which caused bits to pop out again. I iced it and when the Doctors offices opened, i phoned in my symptoms to the surgeon. They ordered me to the emergency room. By the time they'd imaged me my bits had popped in again.

This is likely to keep happening if I'm unlucky or careless until the surgery sorts it. Sigh.

The cats were terrified, poor things. I kept seeing Livia's panicky face popping up over or around furniture to stare at me. Tavy was in the rarest of modes, the Angel Mode. He guarded from a distance for the three hours of the really bad stuff, and once things calmed down, very carefully stepped onto me, avoiding the damaged areas, made pillow biscuits instead of clawing my chest and stomach in hopes of milk, and settled sweetly in for a cuddle nap while I waited for phone time. he didn't hurt me even accidentally once.

I basically needed to spend about 36 hours in bed, only getting up for essentials like food, meds, and hydration. I still need to lie down at random with little warning, but I'm recovering.

* What with various emergencies, disruptions, and most of a month lost to quarantine, we got pretty far behind on myriad things here at the cat asylum. As of Sunday evening, the Head Millennial's pay is sorted, they have caught up on the back log of essential things to keep the household running, and they have gotten things cleared and planted so that the container garden is ready for spring.

They really went above and beyond this week, coming in for short shifts on more days to make sure I was all right during the medical emergency.

I tire easily, and for safety's sake am not bending or lifting, but my shift is considerably more together. I hate this, but I think the time bomb could have gone off at any point in the last couple of years. It just happened to be at the end of a particularly shitty two years medically. Ironically, none of my medical stuff was COVID which is absolutely a miracle of science and kindness on the part of the Millennials. Let us hope things improve and we can avoid further excitement until my surgery slot opens.

The real answer is English Teachers. They hire English teachers to teach Core instead of hiring English Teachers to just teach English and Social studies teachers to teach History in a lot of places in the US school system.

English teachers are not trained how to teach History well; they are trained to teach English. A lot of them don’t like or care about history, so they just teach whatever often ancient text book the underfunded school system hands them in a half assed way.

If you are hiring one teacher to teach both subjects, see, you hire the English teacher because Republican “Back to Basics” school reform is designed to emphasis English and Math and do everything possible to fuck up Social Studies/History and Science teaching because the last thing they want is an educated electorate well versed in things like research, evaluating evidence, analysis, and critical thinking.

They’d abolish both disciplines if they could in public schools. They are actively trying right now with the wave of censorship laws that make it illegal to teach students anything factual about US history. see also the endless attempt to ban evolution being taught and “teach the controversy” bullshit intended to give parity to religious texts in science classes. It’s all part of the same thing.

People who are dual certified in Social studies/History and English are rare and most of those come from an English Literature academic background instead of having a bunch of history degrees like I do. Those of us who really love teaching Middle School History/Social Studies have an extremely hard time getting hired, since we aren’t getting hired for core positions no matter how good we are, which leaves those schools that separate their English and History. My strong academic background in history made me a less attractive and more expensive hire than a mediocre English teacher with no teaching experience for those core jobs.

So there’s the real answer.

English teachers are not the villains here by the way. They need to eat and pay back student loans too. It’s just they are trained to teach English. That’s where their passion is. I’m angry at the policies that fuck over generation after generation of students.

I had more medical issues last week that didn''t require the ER, but I lost most of two days. I'm okayish. It's just exhausting. The wound drains my energy. I can't sleep properly and i won't until after the surgury, plus friends were moving and I needed to help a little with my car and there was lots of extra standing and walking even though I lifted nothing.
