* DC has had a balanced budget for 18 consecutive years and has a sizable rainy day fund, yet they can't pay their employees thanks to the Republican Tantrum, because they are legally barred from spending their own money.

* Re Debt Ceiling hostage Crisis: The last time the Republican Congress toyed with default, it cost the government 1.3 billion dollars. If Republicans are so worried about the debt, why is wasting this sort of money by flirting with default? An actual default is vastly more expensive. In 1979, Congress cut it too close because they said they were worried about the debt, it cost us 12 billion dollars. How is running up all this debt for no reason and getting nothing for it fiscally responsible? If Republicans think wasting so much money for no reason is a good idea, why don't they take the money they plan to waste on their tantrum and actually do something that would help the economy. Imagine if they took the billions they want to waste and buy infrastructure or rehire people hired because of the sequester or gave everyone free health care or created a scholarship fund for hard working students with it? Hell, they could hold a lottery and parcel it out and that would still be vastly better for the economy then running up debt in an argument over whether or not we should pay our bills.

The Republicans have been the party of wild irresponsibility since at least Reagan. Wouldn't it be nice if they decided to do something good for the economy instead for once?

Short version: The computer program that controls intake and disbursement for the US Treasury is the most complicated financial program in the world. The computer programs for the VA and Health Care exchanges are way more simple and programmers had years to write them and there was money appropriated to pay for all that. Republicans are insisting that between now and Wednesday morning we can replace the entire Treasury disbursement program to completely change the way money is disbursed, with no money appropriated to write that program, and look at how buggy those are. Even if it were possible to write a replacement program and test it with no programers to do the work, which it isn't, there is some question as to its legality.

* I last saw the original Tomorrow People... I guessing early '80's, so my memories are a bit dim. Still the reboot feels like them pissing from a great height on the show I remember. I don't like the chosen one cliche. I am so sick of straight white male saviors. The reboot pilot was so boring I kept forgetting I was watching it and I had to watch some scenes three times as I'd have wandered off and missed things. I don not like the set up or where they seem to be going. Screw this, I'm out.

* How much do Republicans love the troops? If they continue with the shutdown, wounded veteran's disability payments stop in November. That's how Republicans show their much boasted love of the troops and their patriotism.

* Meta Media Moment: It is always fascinating watching the BBC presenter trying to explain why the US is creating these dangerous and expensive financial crises for ourselves and potentially the world when there is no rational reason sane economists can grasp. He tries. He tries so hard to break it down into simple terms and make sense of it, but of course there is no sense to it. Under the calm there is this sense that he's sweating whether or not economic self interest will trump Faith based Nihilism.

I have watched "The Quarterback," but I'm not going to write about it here. (I reserve the right to comment on things others have written.) I have buried two lovers and most of my family and the near absence of a forth wall means I can't really talk about this as art right now. All I will say is that there was a time I'd had given my left arm for a certain grotty grey long coat to wrap myself in. I can't help but empathize with all the folks still grieving Mr. Monteith out in the real.
