Apr. 12th, 2011 12:16 am* The Republicans plan to increase the deficit in the new budget by 2.9 trillion dollars by rolling back taxes on the wealthiest to 1931 levels. Hence the need to abolish Medicare to pay for it.
* Fukishima is being upgraded to a Level 7 (Chernobyl level) disaster. This is no surprise at all.
* The Republicans are demanding the US government be made to default on it's debt. This is expected to through us into another Great depression and will likely crash the world economy. They don't care. Ideology trumps the misery, chaos, and destruction this is likely to cause.
* The Budget agreement included blocking DC from spending local funds (not federal Funds) on Planned Parenthood. So it's small government to prevent them spending their own money on Women's health. DC does not get a vote in congress, yet Congress oversees them directly.
* Because we refuse to put in place proper safety standards for oil rigs, American oil workers are 4x more likely to die at work. The agency issuing permits says they are not planning to tighten standards or demand a redesign of blow out preventers so they work as advertised. After all, learning from what's going wrong here or what has been going right in Europe or Canada would be foolish when they can just rubber stamp dangerous operations.

* For those wondering about my mother, she's in the process of moving into her apartment at the assisted living place. It's physically too much for her, and I've been talking her into getting more help and rented a wheel chair. It sounded like I've talked her around. I wish I still had friends in Philadelphia, or I'd beg them to help. The problem is, she only has four hours of oxygen in the travel tank and can't really stand up enough for all the unpacking. She can't move her compressor until it's safe to stay there which requires a certain level of order. If I weren't in a bad place for travel medically, I'd ask them to send me to help sort things, but I can't travel with all the surgical stuff.
This isn't an emergency, it's just she really needs to be in her own space and trying to get there is stretching her physical stamina.
To be clear: My sister and brother in law have gone above and beyond. They have been resurfacing the floors in her house to get it ready for sale and other repairs. Do not take this as a complaint that they are neglecting her. They are not; they simply don't have enough hours in the day to do everything she needs right now.

* According to Republicans, we don't need Planned Parenthood as women can get everything they get from PP, from Walgreens. O.o Really? I've never seen a stirrup table at the Pharmacy, nor women getting breast exams and Pap smears there, nor men getting prostate exams. Wouldn't there be a problem doing that in a Public Place like that? I've certainly never seen anyone getting a pelvic exam in the cosmetic area, where my local Walgreens does the flu shots.
* I don't know where Foo Fighters stand these days, but I've never looked at them the same way since I found out they were AIDS deniers back before antivirals. Even with the current meds it's irresponsible to encourage bare backing. back in the middle of the worst of the plague with so many dead and dieing and crappy AZT as the only available meds, using celebrity to increase the infection rate... I have no words for how pigheadedly irresponsible that was.
