* Planned Parenthood costs .0083% of the budget. For that you get contraceptives, vasectomies and hysterectomies, cancer screening, yeast treatments, Std screening and treatment, AIDS counseling and services, prenatal care, and the only medical care most people in poverty can afford. No federal money pays for abortion. If you want to limit abortions, shutting down the major source of birth control is not the logical approach. Clearly, it's not about the money. If it was about the money, they'd be going after the bonus tax cuts for the rich and corporations, oil company subsidies, and all the military budget things the Pentagon doesn't want or need. It's not about stopping abortions, or they'd be increasing Planned Parenthood funding, as the birth control and education it would be buying would be reducing the number of abortions.
The only thing it really seems to be about is punishing women for being sexually active and punishing the poor by making more of them die from Cancer and AIDS without health care and prophylactics.
* I see John Kyle and other Republicans are lying out right about the numbers about what Planned Parenthood does by using made up figures about abortions, etc.. If their case is so strong, why are they lying about abortion figures? If their case is so strong why are they saying it's 90% instead of 3% of Planned parenthood's services, hmm?
* Today in the forage line, there were no scary misogynists. I was clustered with two disabled guys, one addled and one clear headed, and an able bodied newly homeless construction worker, who was chivalrous to us gimps. (He had come straight from work, with plaster on his hands and beard, and had a wry sense of humor). The talk was all about the immanent shut down and Tea Party/Republican assholery.
* They claimed they had a deal around 7:50ish Pacific Time, but it's not passed yet and there is no word on how ghastly it will be.
* Now of course begins the battle for the debt ceiling and the 2012 budget. As Republicans are demanding an end to Medicare, the EPA, Women's health care, mining safety regulations and health care Reform, as well as even bigger tax breaks for corporations and the rich and even bigger cuts to education, I expect it to be even uglier.
* The Budget matters, folks.
* Yes, I'm aware of the likely election fraud in Wisconsin, and the long list of previous disappearing and magically reappearing ballots by the same Republican official in close races. I am doubting anything will been done as it looks like she's gotten away with it for something like a decade.
* I am startled by gendered honorifics, whether it's sir or Ma'am, it always takes me a moment to realize it means me.

It's not that hard to get close if one rolls back all the massive giveaways to the rich first and is careful about targeting all the rest. Of course, we don't have to contend with the tea Party and congress folk who are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Koch brothers, the oil industry, and Wall street special interests. It's impossible to do if all you focus on are budget cuts, which, of course is the problem. You need to roll back taxes on the rich to Clinton levels to have a hope of solving it. There is no option to rolling back estate and high end income tax too Eisenhower levels, alas, or I'd have had a surplus. I did pull the troupes out of ongoing wars as well, which were most of the cuts I did.
* I see Lindsey Graham has come out against free speech.

* Moment of zen, baby sloths: http://www.epbot.com/2010/05/i-want-baby-sloth.html
As a kid, I spent hours in the small mammals house of the Philadelphia Zoo. right up there with bats and fennec foxes, were the sloths. They were in the same room with the bats, though a different display, and I loved watching them. The babies are even cuter. There is just something about sloths.
* I haven't seen any corys for something like two weeks and was assuming them dead, though dropping an occasional carnivore pellet just in case. I spotted one coming up for air today. Woo hoo! Now if I could get a better look to determine it or their state of health.
* If you are on dreamwith and I haven't friended you back, ping me, I'm Gwydion.

* Hector's been having a good brain chemistry week and the cats have been mostly cooperating, sharing, and taking turns. I still can't catch up with anything. Since Sunday, it's been chilly. I even turned on the cat heater for a few hours Thursday night. Today it warmed up to the point I could move around reasonably freely and I didn't need a coat. Unfortunately, by the time I finished errands, it was too late to walk the cats (Rush hour and the next door girls were out playing on their swing, which is way too much noise for my guys), so I opened a window and let them take turns sitting in it, until dark.
