* I've been seeing talk of labeling racism a mental illness. No. Mental illness is not a choice. It's an illness that can happen to anyone with no more moral component than the cold of flu. Racism is a choice. It is a choice not to educate oneself about things like history and bias. It is a choice not to challenge structures that harm people. It is certainly a choice to go out and deliberately miseducate oneself with white supremacist nonsense. Pretending that these two things are equivalent both further stigmatizes mentally ill people and it absolves the rest of us for our duty to fight this cultural poison and from the hard work of fighting our own cultural conditioning. Fuck that! People are dying of this all over this country. Now is not the time to get sidetracked by this nonsense.

* Arrow totally trolled me. At dinnertime, I watched the episode where they go talk Thea into coming home with Oliver resolving to stop lying to her and tell her wtf already. Seriously, this thing where the characters conceal information supposedly to keep other characters safe, but as a result repeatedly endangering them is cliche and booooooring. Finally, I thought, Thea has the tools to be an effective member of the team, please just tell her already. only next episode, he is lying to her again and still hasn't copped to being the Arrow. So he is still lying to her about lying to her and thus endangering her when he had every reason to come clean. Gaaaaah! The boring romantical problems of rich wife people wasted so much time the first two seasons and just when I'd hopes of the show not going at a snail's pace between that and the pointless refusal of characters to communicate, they double down on the pointless secret keeping. Seriously, it was totally okay for all the archenemies to know Arrow's secret identity in season two, but not his family. Does that make any kind of sense? How did not telling his family that nice Mr. Slade was out to kill them all work out for you Ollie? Pretty fucking awful, so why not take the chance for a clean slate and go forward more sensibly? Fucking A! Does this show ever stop being pointlessly irritating?
