This is a bridge I've crossed countless times. The town on the other side of it is one where I did two practicums, where I subbed adult ESL, and one I've passed through every time I go South. This bridge is packed at rush hour. It's incredibly lucky that the bridge was mostly empty when it went and no one was killed or even seriously injured.
The Republicans continue to argue that fixing all of our structurally unsound bridges and doing maintenance and infrastructure is a waste of money. After all it employs people, improves the economy, and keeps people safe. They continue to insist that the money is better spent on corporate welfare and tax cuts for the rich. 25% of the bridges in my State are in worse shape than this one. Whatever state you live in, the numbers are similar or worse. Right now, the government could borrow money to fix every bridge in the country at 1-2% interest. That's well below inflation. Instead no one is pushing hard for infrastructure upgrade. After all, who in DC cares how many commuters die in bridge collapses? Who in DC cares if the only highway that gives a direct route from Seattle to Vancouver BC is severed, sending traffic on a long detour? The Republicans waste time voting over and over on symbolic votes to deny people access to health care and strip women of basic rights on the grounds that actually doing things to improve the economy and keep people safe would be a victory for the President and therefore bad for them politically. Remember that personal power is vastly more important than the public good and the general welfare of the people in this country. Meanwhile, bridges keep collapsing under people. Meanwhile, they keep closing bridges people need to get to work because they aren't safe.

* It was Greenwick's birthday! Happy Birthday, Greenwick! We had cake and pie and cheesey things. The Garou got to go to a moot. They went hunting Frankish warriors. They squished one of the humans and the Tiger killed some Garou (and frenzied), but they brought four back to pay the Rhine Queen. They bought off some water fae that tried to lure them. The fae took three sacrifices, which worries the characters as they are only aware of having given them one sack of sacrifices, not three. They searched the boats, but found nothing missing. They now suspect that they have changelings, but aren't sure who. They sacrificed the humans to the Rhine maidens and made it to the coast where they reported to the war leader, released the refugees to the wild, and gathered rumors. After some debate they are off to the Umbra to find a magic acorn.
