I'd like to mention that meningitis is not only not an STD, but it's more than one disease. It can be viral, bacterial, or fungal. Basically, it means something got into your nervous system that shouldn't. Depending on what kind you can get, it can arrange from annoying to deadly. Some kinds are contagious much as flu is, other kinds are harder to get, like the fungal strain that killed all those senior citizens recently through contaminated arthritis injections. Given that the contagious sort is a risk at schools and really little kids get it, not just high school and college students, it would be a really different sort of problem than it actually is if you think about it a little. Seriously, injecting a moral component in this sort of thing is irresponsible and counter productive.
In general, any sort of meningitis is going to be more dangerous to the very young, the very old, and people who are already sick, or who have immune issues of various types. If you are in an area with a contagious meningitis outbreak, it's a good idea to check how virulent, how contagious, and what symptoms to look for with the particular type and strain. Panic is no help at all. Do take it seriously if there is an outbreak where you are and have symptoms. Do wash your hands often. Do wear a mask if you think you have a contagious disease, again just generally.
