gwydion: Vlad and Niran kissing (Kiss)
[personal profile] gwydion
* Bradley Manning was literally tortured by her captors and has pretty much given hell by her own government. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the legal case, could we at least respect her gender and use the right pronouns in the press? Given how much of her dignity has been stolen, including things like having to beg for toilet paper each time she went, can those of us talking about her grant her the dignity of respecting her identity?

* Melissa Harris-Perry on a white man hunting unarmed black teenagers "in self defense" because the murderer claims the mere existence of unarmed teenagers playing music in their car posed an existential threat:

* My Beloved Richard Burton doing Hamlet on stage in 1964. (Long time readers will know that I am fond of heavy drinking, wildly talented, deeply conflicted bisexual, mid twentieth century actors. *cough* Spencer Tracy *cough* Richard Burton *cough*)

* The light went out on the tall 20. It was too late in the evening to go downtown looking for a replacement. I did fix up a temporary solution. I then went to make dinner. The butt waited until my hands were full then promptly went over to try to electrocute the fish. I saw him doing it, but couldn't cross the apartment through a panicked cat obstacle course fast enough to stop him. Sigh. So the back up light is shorted out and likely ruined. I haven't been able to check on the fry as you know, light destroyed so I can't really see what's going on in there. The adult fish look okay. (Enough of them swimming at the top). So my plans for tomorrow are changed to involve taking the light down town to the fish store. Sigh.

* I avoided this movie because I assumed (correctly) that it would be terrible, but the recap is brilliant and contains gems like "I prefer to think that the actual Elizabeth Taylor — married four times, a consummate professional, one of the first actors to ask for points on a production as part of her contract, and a woman who saved Montgomery Clift’s life when he crashed his car into a tree in front of her house and was choking on his own teeth by having the presence of mind and lack of squeamishness to reach INTO HIS THROAT AND REMOVE SAID TEETH, like a baller — would have just rolled her eyes.:" http://gofugyourself.com/fug-the-fromage-liz-dick-11-2012#more-680502

* If anyone is planning to order from Twinnings before the end of March, let me know as I have a coupon code and I'm a loose leaf person not a tea bag person.
