* 5 people dead and approximately 600 are injured in Egypt as Morsey has sent in the army along with tanks against Democracy protesters. It’s heartbreaking and my heart is with the moderates who are desperate for a secular constitution and a real chance at moving their country forwards.

* 75% of the crops in Compestela have been flattened. They are still pulling injured survivors and the dead from the rubble. The death toll continues to rise. The desperately need food, clean water, and medical supplies. Given how many people have lost quite literally, everything, they will likely need help for some time. * I got the car sorted. (Two trips as I had to circle back when something started dragging under my car. The nice mechanic bodged it back together free). I also saw Anna Karenina, about which I have thoughts, but I'm too tired to deal with. Tomorrow is not enough sleep and too much shit to do again. Sigh.

* Mohamed Morsey is refusing to back down on his takeover of the Egyptian government and the plan to introduce a Shari based constitution. The army and protesters continue to fight. The moderates refuse to negotiate until Morsey gives up the extra judicial powers and agrees to delay the constitution.

* I got rear ended at a different intersection while trying to take Greenwick home. It was nearly the same accident. We were the second car at a light. The person in front braked due to a hazard in the intersection. We braked. The guy behind me had his brakes lock up and rammed us good. I'm in a stunning amount of pain. I'm on the bubble as to whether I should go to a doctor tomorrow. The car has a mysterious rattle, some more bumper damage, and damage more damage to the bumper brackets, but my car is mostly fine. The other car though? Jesus fucking Christ! The front end crumpled like it was made of paper. He had picked his kid up from an after school thing and was rushing home for dinner. The most important thing is that the boy wasn't hurt. The second is that he got to see a bunch of people acting link grown-ups over a car accident, including some good citizens who witnessed the accident and waited more than an hour for a cop plus all the extra time for him to gather data and write it up. It a good thing to model or someone who will be driving in a few years, that in a stressful situation, sensible people can behave decently to each other. We exchanged info and accident stories; we marveled over the extent of his damage; we laughed as he picked bits of my bumper stickers out of what was left of his grill.

I am rather glad I hadn't quite gotten around to fixing the bumper.

Now there's even more exhausting bureaucracy and errands to do. Sigh. But no one was seriously hurt and that's the main thing.

* You know, I went something like a decade since my last car accident (Also a rear ending, this time right before the merge point at the bottom of an off ramp when a tailgater decided my break lights were a bluff). Could people stop rear ending me now? Two in a few months is way too many. It's exhausting, time consuming, and it really hurts.

Seriously, if I want my ass rammed, all ask.

I am finding this inaccurate.

Actually, black was the colour of mourning from at least Roman times, so the English nobles would buy black outfits for villains and have them come to mourn loudly. The pay for the elaborate mourning was they got to keep the clothes. The black dye was usually cheap on the free clothes so they quickly faded to grey. Also, some orders of monks and nuns had mostly black clothes. Medieval people did sometimes wear black. They are making that entry up.

Similarly, in most places black for mourning in the 19th century was custom, not law. Oh, it would be bad if you broke the custom and there would be social consequences if you didn't follow the customs regarding levels of mourning in dress over time, but no one would arrest you for switching to gray too soon or wearing deep mourning for distantly related cousin of whom you were fond.

Also, trust me, in the 1980's you could find simple LBDs similar to the ones in the millennial picture. Yes, you could find more exaggerated examples, but if you stepped into one of my dances in high school, more than half the girls would have been in simple LBD variations.
