- 1.6 The Survivor. They randomly find the five years missing "Carter Winston" who's line delivery is weirdly Shatnerlike, who's fiance coincidentally is aboard because reasons never explained. The coincidence level is embarrassing really. Space is HUGE, and yet the ship that happens to run into his totaled space yacht just happens to have his fiance serving aboard. Riiiight. Also, he sure totals a lot of space yachts. Wait, McCoy has a daughter? Who is the Mother? So this Carter Winston is a philanthropist. I'm so used to TNG post scarcity economics that it took me aback a little. The story of how he's changed and why he can't marry her sounds suspiciously like he fell in love with a male nurse and discovered some things about his sexuality, but clearly they are going for mysterious alien situation instead. Indeed, "Carter Winston" is secretly a tentacled alien who secretly fondle/knock out/duplicate Kirk to make him take them to the Romulan neutral zone, then fondles McCoy to cover it all up. The fiance has a baby doll voice and could harm the image of the man she loved, which I am side eyeing. Somehow the shape shifting tentacle monster is a Romulan spy and it's all a trick to get Kirk and the Enterprise, but magically in three total short conversations the fiance and the tentacle monster spy/nurse are in love because of course they are, so the tentacle monster becomes a deflector sheild to save them from the Romulans, so they let the fiance "guard" him on the way to trial.
