Mar. 23rd, 2012 02:31 am*The President has caved on a portion of the oil sands pipeline. just to recap, oil sands pipelines leak way more often than ordinary oil pipelines, and the spills are dramatically harder to clean up. We are currently a net oil exporter because we are at a record high level of drilling. Current high prices have to do with commodity speculators and tension with Iran, not actual shortages. The oil sand pipeline is meant to ship Canadian sands to Mexico for processing for export to China, so will not effect US oil supply and will create very few jobs after the building is done, but the bulk of the spill risk will be to the Mississippi river and environs. If they started building the pipeline tomorrow, it would not lower gas prices in the US.
* Rick "man on dog" Santorum gave a standing ovation to an extremest preacher who called for the deportation of all us non-Christians from the US.
* They are talking top down investigations in that Florida police department. The state level black caucus is putting state level pressure. They still haven't arrested Zimmerman for his stalking and murder of an unarmed teenager. The footage of the hoodie protests is really moving.
Seminole State has withdrawn Zimmerman from it's general ed program citing safety concerns.

* I really need to get stuff done tomorrow. The list keeps expanding.

* Seanan MacGuire found, the most inappropriate book cover ever (NWS): http://www.goodshowsir.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Princess-Bride.jpg
Her description is priceless: "First off, no matter how bad a cover your book gets, it will never win the bad cover lottery. That prize has already been claimed by this not-safe-for-work edition of The Princess Bride. What is that I don't even. Flesh-snakes are attacking her lady bits with the intent to burrow their way into the promised land. Presumably the promised land has a cover that makes sense. Also, I do not remember Buttercup using a falcon as a cunning hat. Maybe somebody was hitting the cold meds a little too hard when they approved this one? I don't know." It's from here if you want context: http://seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com/433388.html
