* There is footage of masses of bodies of people murdered en masse by the Syrian government. it's heart rending.

* The Mississippi law designed to outlaw birth control, accidental miscarriages, fertility treatments, and all abortions, even in cases of ectopic pregnancy that would kill the mother over an enviable clump of cells.

* The Mississippi voter suppression law has passed. *facepalm*

* In Ohio, voters have restored union rights which republicans tried to take away.

* The man who wrote the Arizona "Papers, please" law looks to be out, defeated by a more moderate republican, though it wasn't official when I last checked.

* Congratulations to Mayor Annise Parker of Houston who looks to be keeping her seat. I believe she's out only out lesbian mayor of a major city, and her bio looks cool.

* In wake county NC., where republicans put an end to school integration, voters have gone back to the old policy of integrated schools.

* The Maine voter suppression law, designed to disenfranchise large numbers of poor, working class, young, elderly, and brown voters has been voted down, despite last minute advertizing campaigns labeling early voting as "gay." No really. Mainers were told that early voting, intended to make it easier for folks who work for a living to get to the polls was actually part of the insidious gay agenda. I'm at a loss for words, really, so I'll have to just leave it there.

* Good luck to any of you in states with close governor, state representative, or mayoral races that can effect balance of power where you live.

* I'm really tired and am trying to get various things done around the apartment, so I'm not following the election results closely, which is unfortunate as there are a number of key state races going on. I'm not even looking for Washington state results yet, as we're a write in state.

* I am moved that the Mobile protest is now camping on someone's lawn to try to slow foreclosure on a family of five. I do not really think this will work, but I wish them all luck. I am too tired to list the cities kicking them out of parks.

* Cain is claiming he never met the latest accuser, despite evidence to the contrary. He is not only lying, but claiming the woman is mentally ill in an attempt to discredit her. Y'all know how I feel about this sort of thing. It's insidious and unfair both to actual people who struggle with mental illness and this sort of dismissive treatment to women in general. he's also claiming women sexually harass men as much or more than men do women. After all, it's the men who are the real victims, right? No! Yes, I am against same sex sexual harassment and women harassing men, but statistically, Mr. Cain's claims are utter bullshit, and pretending it's not does disservice to both the truth and to people actually injured by this sort of thing. I think the list of lies issuing from Mr. Cain's lips continues to argue for the veracity of the women.

* The number of women who have made accusations against Herman Cain is now up to five. The fifth woman has a story similar to the forth. Some news organizations are using the names of the women who are still bound by the confidentiality agreements and so not legally allowed to speak for themselves. FOX and the Cain campaign in particular are going in for hardcore character assassination. I think it is cowardly to strike at someone who can not strike back, and that goes for words as well as fists. Just saying.

* Speaking of sexually inappropriate behavior from men in power, I am aware of the child rape case going on with that Penn State coach. I know nothing personally about the case. However, My Uncle knows Joe Peterno and program in question and has a rather strong opinion. Keep in mind that my uncle, is a sweet, gentle, and rather naive man. He was a football player in college, but an injury ended his career early. He has a high opinion of the character of other football players, because other men behave well around him, so he has missed a lot of the sexually aggressive behavior most of us associate with football players. My Uncle was and is a gentleman, and being well liked, people try to live up to his standards. My Uncle swears to this day that OJ couldn't have done it, because football players don't act that way and would never hurt a woman. My Uncle has a whole rant about the coach and program in question at his old Alma Mater, and there is no doubt in his mind that everything they are accused of happened, and worse besides. My feeling is, that given my uncle's biases and contacts within football 9some of the guys he was friends with went pro, and his specialty had him helping many injured players of a more modern generation of athletes), he must have serious inside knowledge which he can not mention, so I'm inclined to think my Uncle is correct, and there needs to be serious jail time involved. Also, when you have that many accusers, I'm having trouble thinking there is nothing to it.

Y'all know how strongly I feel about keeping children and teens safe from this sort of predation, and the strength of my age taboo, so I suspect you can guess who angry I am about this person.

* While I am all for treatment instead of prison for non-violent drug offenders and I honestly think there needs to be less racism and more compassion in the system in general, I also think rapists need to be locked up for everyone's safety, and those who knowingly allow and condone rape are complicit with those actually doing the raping. That goes double for people abusing the power and trust they are invested with, be it priest, or coach, or doctor. This is one of the many reasons I oppose charter schools, as many of you know. State and Federal background checks can't weed out people who haven't been caught yet, but it sure helps cut down the number of dangerous people with access to kids in schools. Charter schools, like private schools are usually except from background checks, depending on where you live. It doesn't take a genius with a lot of ed policy knowledge to know why that's

* Usually autoclaving is a two to three day job. I'm still at it. The problem is, I must be around and awake to check on it, and I'm also having trouble remembering to start the next set as soon as I'm done the previous one. Really, I need to finish and clean the twenty so it's ready to go at need. Really, I should be breaking down the ten by now. Really, I should be sorting and packing right now, but my spine and legs are done. Really, I should be cataloging a partial bottle lot for ebay. (I've picked out a set make sense together, but every time I stand up, I get mobbed by all four cats, and by the time everyone's calmed down, I've usually forgotten what I was doing. (It took two hours to call my sister, between cats and the tape holding the wires into the wall needing replacing, so half the time it'd fallen out again by the time I sat back down. I haven't bothered as I'm moving the phones over Monday. Yes, we have to tape anything we plug into the wall down to hold it in. The state of the wiring in this building is scary, and it's a miracle there has been no fire, what with the water in the walls and how loose all the plumbing and wiring is.) *facepalm* Pardon me while I rock back and forth and repeat over and over "It's going to be okay in a few short weeks," and "Safe place to live. Safe place to live."

The removal of furniture is turning up larger and more egregious mold patches than even I was aware of. *shudder*

* I really just want to sleep for a week. And massage. Lots of massage. Hours and hours of massage. Also, for the spiders to stop biting me, Ouch. No chance though.

* The goosh seems to have calmed the beasties down. Finally. Hector would like to strenuously protest the window mesting shelves, as those were his, dammit!

* I've been really identifying with the hungover owls lately, even though no hangovers are involved in my case. This is so me this evening: http://hungoverowls.tumblr.com/post/12511261190/oh-god-even-my-face-is-curled-up-into-a-fetal

* Melissa Harris Perry has some pretty interesting things to say about societal response to the cain scandal;
