I'll most likely be incommunicado until Sunday or Monday night depending on how tired I am when I get home.

I'm planning to go down the afternoon of the 7th, and return Sunday. The plan is currently for me to share a room with Greenwick and Ninjakitten and Ninjakitten's friend. If anyone else needs crash space speak up.

* I am still catching up on international news and am aware of the Saudi Arabian disaster for example, but am not far enough along in catching up to say anything intelligent about world news.

* The Red Cross is still desperate for blood and money donations to help Sandy victims, both here and in the Caribbean. If you have a little extra of either to give and are legally and medically allowed to, now would be an excellent time. The Red Cross is very much against the illogical homophobic blood ban and it is cruel to punish them and the injured for our government being homophobic.

As I've mentioned before, CNN keeps an excellent list of reputable charities with donation links so you can pick what you think best without having to do all the research here: http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/impact.your.world/

I know I keep doing this, but donations start trailing off as attentions turns elsewhere and it's worth repeating, particularly this has been a terrible year for both war refugees and global warming related drought, fires, and deadly storms. It's only going to get worse, as global food prices were projected to rise 15% and there are sections of Africa that have had more than a year of drought even as our midwest and a bunch of grain raising regions across Europe burned or shriveled this year. There's likely to be a fuck of a lot of people quite literally starving to death in the next year.

I know supplies were desperately low for global aid organizations before Sandy ran over the islands and then came back to level our coast. For those of us lucky enough to be dry and warm with indoor plumbing, medicine, and full bellies, it's a good time to think about the folks huddling in wreckage or refugee camps who have none of those things.

* Election Meta Moment: I listen to a hard rock/metal station out of Vancouver, BC when I am in my car. I was amused to discover they were doing hourly election updates for the US election. The Disc jockey did a little intro explaining that our election effected them as Canada is our best ally except maybe Great Brittan and that what happens here will effect them too. His words were carefully neutral as to which President he wanted, but his tone said, "Oh please God don't let Romney win or we're all fucked." I feel much the same, Sir, I feel much the same.

* Apparently I'm not the only one upset by lack of representation and blatant insensitivity to the point people felt unsafe. In this case it looks like the target was autistic folks. * Last night before bed I discovered the body of the cichlid with the dot. The light and feeding schedule in that tank got switched to simplify it for Squirrelk, so that may have been too much for the poor wee thing. The pale cichlid and the pleco seem fine. I did a water change before I left for errands and I'm doing filters in a bit. The body was a touch nibbled about the fins, which means nothing as fish are enthusiastic cannibals, so that could easily be post mortem. I had not seen him since I got back, but I hadn't had much time for watching. There was no sign of dropsy or any other obvious cause of death. I know I've only had them half a month, but I'm quite fond of them. I am going to see how things continue. German blues are not hard to find and if things are still okay later in the month, I'll look for a replacement. I still need to do a comprehensive welfare check on the tanks, but the bettas look healthy, both plecos are fine, the five corys that were here when I left are still bumbling around. (I lost one three or four weeks ago). The orange olony is doing well with the fry looking alert and active. The blue platys are active and eating (no fry yet, but I live in hope as some of them look pregnant). I haven't counted the tetras, but the school looks the right size. The blue guppies haven't been fairing well and I need to do a nose count, but that's an ongoing issue and nothing to do with the weekend.

Errands went well today, with everything scheduled accomplished.

* I forgot to mention there were a lot of cool costumes at the con, including a dude who bedecked his wheelchair with zombie and biohazard warnings and did himself up in some kick ass zombie makeup. The ones most eerie in their beauty were the two ladies dressed as bio-luminescent jelly fish. Dude!
