* I am long on record with my opposition to Angela Merkle's financial policies, but I'd like to say I admire the hell out her for standing firm on helping refugees during the crisis and now for her remarks about the Holocaust. I wish the leaders of my own country were as honest and forthright about our own history of genocide. So I will likely never agree with her on economics, but I do applaud her grit and political courage.

* The Freedom Caucus (These are the Tea Party just want to watch the world burn members of the Repulican Party) say they will not endorse Ryan for Speaker despite some of them supporting him. This was one of Paul Ryan's conditions. There are enough votes to be Speaker though if he wants it. They all have 'til Friday to change their minds.

We’ll see how it falls out in the end.

* Climate change has fucked up the weather so much here that I'm still needing the air conditioner full time to sleep and a second crop of lettuce and tomato plants are growing. As much as I like more lettuce and tomatoes, I'd rather have the cold windy season back that we should be in the middle of now, and I miss our short, crucial Winter which we haven't had in about half a decade even though it used to trap me in my apartment. It fundamentally freaks me out that we are on track to not having any seasons this year.

* I am trying not to freak out about the cat situation. Hector is not doing well. I moved heaven and earth to feed him the last two weeks. He seemed to rally a bit after that bad episode, but tonight he is scaring me again. I love him so much and I think he is failing. he was really ill tonight. Of course there is a chance that he's having a really bad arthritis day (I have been), but he's having such a hard time with his back legs, stumbling, messing up low easy jumps, sliding an struggling with balance on smooth surfaces. It's definitely the back left that is the problem, and possibly a little bit back right, but it's noticeably the back left that isn't working right. I haven't money for a vet, and honestly, given his decline over the pst two years, his age, and the nature of his malady I do not think there would be anything a vet can do. He is getting plenty of fluids. He was throwing up a lot today but there was also evidence of a hairball. I've seen him eat small amounts multiple times. Not enough food, but he does that and he's three days or so in on the tummy trouble. Because of his arthritis and his trauma related food issues, it can be hard to tell how sick he actually is, but he's scaring me. I've seen a lot of old cats go. I know, I thought last year would be his last Winter, so all this has been extra time, but I love him so much. I keep checking to see if he's still breathing. I keep checking to see if he's crawled of to die. He heard me crying just now and came to check on me, Wee Beastie. He's such a good little guy.

* GoT Season 3 Rewatch: I'm not saying there weren't problems in the first two seasons, because there were so, so, so many problems, but I think Season Three is the point where all their random and/or not getting the point in the novels and/or misogynist changes reached the snow ball to avalanche proportions, by which I mean the first two episodes make noticeably less sense than previously. I know I've been saying since the start of five that the shark has been jumped, but I'm now wondering if this is the moment. Of course it could just be that it is an issue of a whole string of dog fish being jumped one after another instead of a Great White. I told myself I'd try to rewatch through four because there were things that would be useful for research and or critical purposes, but these first two episodes were ashes and teeth pulling and I may give up. Either way, it goes back tomorrow as there were things I was let foot draggy about watching so it's now due.

* Walking Dead: I think the last year or so Carl looks more and more like Carol. Especially last Sunday. I know they are not blood relatives. I don't mean it like that. I was uncomfortable with the image of a white person with a black one on a lead for all the obvious reasons. I'd already been thinking about the racial narrative what with Carol and Morgan's dynamic and that... made it pretty explicit even though I understand the plot reasons for doing it. I do not trust their racial agenda at all, and I can't not read RL history and racial dynamics into the narrative, especially right now. I do not trust their racial agenda at all, and I can't not read RL history and racial dynamics into the narrative, especially right now. Otherwise, I do think this was a particularly strong episode.

* Is it just me or did the Jack the Ripper sleepy Hollow episode make no sense at all?
