* As you've likely guessed due to my posting another Black sails commentary, I'm well enough to concentrate properly. Unfortunately it's just in time for me to start working on setting up Gothmas things. That's likely going to eat a few days, so no promises on how soon I'll get XVI out. Today was Dentist part II. (I'm waiting on cancellations for the actual filling, alas). I've been going there since the turn of the century. I loved my original dentist there. There was something lovely and soothing about listening to the women chat warmly in Spanish while getting my teeth worked on, but she left. The replacement was this condescending asshole who assumed my physical disability meant I was childlike and incompetent. What with all the disruption (medical, financial, and habitation wise), I hadn't been back in a year and a half. They generally resist the switching of dentists, but I talked them into it. The new dentist, which I saw a couple of weeks ago was pleasant and professional, though alas another white man. the hygienists today were also polite and professional, but there was no chit chat and I had trouble telling them apart. (I often have that problem with conventionally good looking blondes of either gender). I missed my old dentist and her hygienists, but this will do, and the women were thorough. After were some quick errands, and I got out the Gothmas trees, Geoff Peterson (named after Craig Ferguson's co host), and the gothmass boxes, which are now taking up way too much of my living room. I'm not allowed to do external decorations yet, but I like to have the Gothmas trees and Halloweentown up before the Gothmas presents arrive. My plan is to sort the gear and set the exterior stuff aside until the 1st, then do up the interior displays. it is weirdly pleasing seeing the black glitter trees and the skeleton in their new to this year display locations.
* I just started rereading "Assassination Vacation" today. I find Sarah Vowell delightful and she's on my short list of celebrities I'd like to have dinner with IRL, because she is exactly as geeky as I am about history, only about different things. These different things are interesting, and I can easily imagine us geeking away conversationally. The way she is about historical presidential assassinations at Dinner? That is me about historical epidemics....
