* BP had recently racked up 760 egregious safety violations in a period in which Exxon racked up one. O.o They don't expect any luck on stopping the spill until maybe August.
* It's hard for me to get my head around Atlantis being retired.
* Il_volpe may be taking me here when I'm in Seattle! http://www.soundexp.org/index.php?page=our-ship
* I was reading Karjack's recent meta post on MUSHing. I love IC drama. I just like all my drama IC if that's possible. I don't like dealing with OOc politics and hassles. I want to have pleasant chan chat, with most of the conflict out there in the game. I know every one doesn't necessarily like everyone and conflicts are bound to happen, but I aim for as little of that as possible. Torture my character? Fine. Abuse my character? Fine. As long as that's not all that's going on, I'm all for it. Hassle me OOc? Make my life hard OOc? No fun. I can separate the two. I make characters broken in very specific ways on purpose. i kow my characters are messed up. I'm not surprised if people react to them as what they are and based on what they do. Like karjack, I'm poking the human condition with a stick.

For the record, I tend not to count women who cross dress solely for the chance to fight in a war or the like, but I do count folks who live as a different sex for a substantial amount of time, like Albert Cashier, who spent his whole adult life presenting male. (He was discovered to be female bodied due to a traffic accident in old age, with tragic results). One has to use caution when assigning gender identities to people who lived before the vocabulary got invented. I'm against coopting folks like Sarah Edmonds, who belong more properly on a cool women of history list.
If folks are interested in female bodied folks fighting in the Civil war, check out They Fought Like Demons, which is a solidly researched study of the same.
* I got a short notice call to meet up with my local BPAL buddy. It was fun as always. I'm wildly excited as she was kind enough to lend me a large collection of event exclusive rares to skin test and review. Imagine the trust. I'm a little blown away. It's a complete collection of Conspiracy Theory imps. This is hard to explain to non collectors. Think of this as lending an acquaintance 100+ dollars of something irreplaceable which you collect to use gently and trusting them not to damage lose or sell it.
* Normally, I'd post a dedicated Memorial Day thing, but I talked about military/veteran related stuff this weekend, I'm out of clever things to say, so I'll just link you to the traditional "And the Band Played Maltzing matilda." Long time readers know why this song and this war and what it symbolizes for me, but I don't want to go into the whole metonymy thing right here, right now, this year. Just listen and weep with with me for when ones who died and are dieing and being maimed or traumatized. For the survivors and for those that did not. For our personal dead and for other people's. Anzac, American, turkish, Iraqi, french, English, Canadian, Russian, Spanish, whatever. Potential lost and bodies ground down, sometimes for all the right reasons, but so often for sakes the rich old men in power.
