Nov. 5th, 2013 03:06 am* Elections: The odious Christie won as expected, alas, and is now free to continue his war on the working poor and middle class people. They did raise the NJ minimum wage over Christie's objections. In New York, Bill DeBlasio won the Mayoral race, about which I am quite pleased. In Virginia, the wildly corrupt Democrat beat the wildly corrupt homophobic misogynist, Ken Cuccinelli. Along with him, men believing in banning birth control and arresting women for miscarriage lost also. This bucks a thirty year trend of Virginia State level offices going to the opposite party than is in the White House.
* Re: Ender's Game: I choose not to give my money to people who will turn around and use it to deny me my civil rights whenever I can help it. People have a right to give money to someone like Orson Scott Card (or Mel Gibson, another person I boycott for being a violent racist anti-Semitic misogynistic homophobe). To get on my "no money from me ever" list, you have to have done something pretty terrible or show a pattern of doing and saying terrible things, rather than making one or two minor mistakes. Orson Scott Card is on that list for me. You draw your line where you want, but I'm not contributing to someone who campaigns actively and vociferously to harm me and people like me.
* I wish I'd had Valerie's letter to read, back in the dark of my Grim Little War when I was endlessly punished for living my truth. I'd have clutched it to me no matter how hard it cut. "Valerie's Letter Day:" http://lettersfromtitan.com/2013/11/05/valeries-letter-day/
* Still nothing close to enough sleep, but I got through about half my bureaucracy, met with the condo people, mailed out a package, paid for my new floor, went paint shopping with the painter, and set him up with keys. He starts tomorrow and will be working through the weekend while I'm out of town in the hopes of him finishing before the floor guys start next Wednesday. (Paint before floors is the safest option). I also got a good start on taking in the Halloween decorations. I'm going to call this progress.
* Re: Walking Dead (Show). I don't agree with Carol's decision, but I understand it. Rick? I have no use for.
