Kenna, Skull Gazer, and Gwallog needed level quests and the others were absent, so that's what we did. A Faerie hound tasked Kenna with freeing Mahon the Huntsmen from a dungeon on the Mercia side of the Marches. A Questing Beast asked Skull and Gwallog to get some of Orddu of the Upland's blood. The Owl led them, the Moon going backwards in it's phases. They tried to land in the courtyard of the Keep where the Fearie huntsman was imprisoned, under hail of arrows. Kenna tried to luff her way in, but the Celestial Chorister in charge did not respond well to her declaring for Odin. Under threat by Fangs and under hail of rrows they flew back up. The Crow went through an arrow slit window to confront the Mage. The other too, being two big, flew to the roof. This nearly killed the bear who was taking damage faster than he could heal.Skull's flame thrower didn't do enough damage to wipe out the roof sentries at once and the Bear hadn't much time, so they legged it through the trap and down the stairs with guards on their heals. It occurred to them that rolling down the stairs was blunt damage and they could heal about as fast as they got injured. They made a wheel and rolled, taking the guards coming up from below with them. Meanwhile, Kenna had gone invisible with a gift the Mage couldn't counter, so the mage did the same. Kenna called for guards in the Mage's voice, ordering them to search for an invisible foe, but the Shifter avalanche swept them away, which was not what Kenna had expected. She stealthed to the door and flew after the furry catastrophe. They had hit bottom by then and had gone to ground under a trap in the Great Hall that lead to the dungeons. Skull went down the stairs into the torture chamber and on into the guard chamber to slaughter guards, capturing keys on the way. The Bear held the trap Door for Kenna, who flew through the gap. The Bear then held the trap closed against the guards. The Wolf and Crow freed prisoners in the labyrinth, but none were the Huntsman. A prisoner told them that he was in the special prisoner's chamber, which he led them to. They didn't have the key to this, but Skull can pick locks.
They discovered a variety of supernatural prisoners in specialized cages. They let the Fianna and Celican out first. They freed a bunch of nature based fae in exchange for two favors. They needed the mages to free the huntsman from his force bubble, but they were mage locked in. They spent a fae favor to free the mages who freed the huntsman. The mages then proceeded to make a hole through the wall above the water line to get folks out. They got the Bear and locked the doors behind them to slow pursuit. the Fianna promised to take the Celican to safety. Owl opened a bridge or the Huntsman and nature fae back to the Hound, and Owl led our pack into the town and through the blood puddle of a murdered man to the Uplands.
There they gathered Asphodels and rested up. Skull scouted out the location of the witch's cave. Kenna tried to scout the cave, but it was all twisting and changing as she went. When the Bear and Wolf stepped in they were in her cavern full of curiosities and herbs. She was making nasty medicinal herbal tea in a small caldron. Gwallog suddenly remembered she was an aspect of a goddess and they chose to be polite. They ate bread, salt, and drank her nasty tea as a pledge to follow the rules of hospitality. She did not poison them. They asked for her blood. She warned them of the dangers of blood magic. They asked if there was a way to prevent people using her blood to harm her. She said she'd have to die and it was unpleasant. They asked what they could offer to get her to agree. They agreed for Skull to take her place while she was dead, bu she would have to die first. The witch gave them a vial of her blood, then drank poisoned tea with Skull. They died a horrible, painful death. Skull went off with the Morrigen to harvest the dead from the war between Wales and Mercia. The Morrigen took to her and gave her eyeballs, mints, and sucking candies to eat. they learned many secrets. At the end of the time Orddu spent dead, Skull went back into her body and after a polite leave taking, they headed back to the labyrinth entrance, the moon phases going backwards again. No time had passed. The east took the vial into the lake with it and hound and huntsman were reunited.

Date: 2013-09-03 03:09 am (UTC)Re: Bisexual hearts. I think the author is much in denial. Okay, bisexual people in heterosexual relationships don't experience the full array of heterosexual privilege, but they get passing privilege, including the privilege of being able to have children without intervention or at least, without anyone questioning the validity of their desire to have children together, the privilege of getting married and having most of the world approve, and the privilege of having their PDA's considered acceptable and cute, etc., etc. This is huge. It is not bi-phobic to acknowledge that it exists, or to accept that bisexual people, like everyone else, don't necessarily choose to have long-term or lifetime relationships with people they are most attracted to, but with people they are attracted to and find compatible. Compatibility has to do with what one's life together looks like. Homophobia effects this.
Like anybody else, a bisexual person can, subconsciously, or consciously, think, "I love S. 10 points, more than I've ever loved anybody else, but the risk of getting gay bashed scares me enough that it's a -3 to me, and having the waiter act snotty towards the 'gay' couple I'm in when I'm with him at restaurants is another -2, let's call it a fucking -4 because whenever we're in public it can happen. And my mom hates it that I'm with S., so that's another -1. I love T. at about 8 points, but together we actually get cute-couple treatment in public, and that's really fun and useful at around a +3, so T. is actually a /waaaaaaay/ better partner than the person I love more than I've ever loved anyone, I am going to go with T." This doesn't make the bi person coldhearted. E probably doesn't even realise it, it's just a matter of having bad experiences when out with S., and good ones when out with T., even though those experiences are controlled by passers-by and not by S. or T.
It is not biphobia to recognize this phenomenon. I am not sure it's even biphobia to refuse to date bi folks because of it, for the same reason it's not really homophobia on the part of the bi person to find heterosexual relationships more compatible/easier. It's just a way in which heterosexism fucks with bi people's relationships and reduces their range of choices when it comes to relationships. Homophobia caused it, and bi people, and their partners, suffer from it.
