* Thank you, Mr. President, for today's speech.

* Housing Update: The one up by the mall is impossible; we did not bother looking at the forth choice. The two units in the one like a block and a half away from our current place are both good, though one is significantly better. We could take the less ideal one ASAP. The one that made Squirrel literally Squee and is way better for the cats and I is in a complicated situation with the bank that now owns it post foreclosure, which means it may be $5000.00 more expensive and may cost us significantly more as there could be a long delay on closing and thus moving in. Sigh. Either way, we are moving into that complex. It is smaller than I hoped, and lacks central air, but comes with w/s/g, basic cable, has a real exercise room with equipment I can use, is in our neighborhood and slightly more convenient to the bus route. There are no pet restrictions, other people have window units so I can buy an air conditioner, and it has a fireplace for Squirrel. The storage unit is smaller than the one I am renting, but I have some hopes that purchasing better book cases plus the new unit and apartment closets will be enough for me to be able to empty the unit I currently pay rent for. Either way, there is a washer and dryer in my bathroom and we will otherwise have completely separate bathrooms. There is room in the bathrooms for the litterboxes, which is a huge help. It's got an open kitchen with reasonable cabinet and counter space.

We really, really, really want the fully ADA compliant ground level one, folks. (The other one is handicapped friendly, but is a much bigger slog to parking, and there are safety issues for Hector, it's not even as close to as good for the plants, and there's no grazing for Mache). The handsome young man who showed us around is going to try to talk the bank into quick sale and/or lowering the price to match the other unit. For the record, the other unit's been on the market a year already at a price $5000.00 lower than the one we want with the same floor space in a slightly different configuration. *fingers crossed folks* The ADA one is as close to perfect as there is any chance of getting and wherever we move is the last place I'm likely ever to live unless I move into assisted living. We need this to work out.

UPDATE: The bank is part way through the approval process on the ADA apartment, and is mostly waiting on an assessor to look at it before it can be approved for sale. It looks like it's going to be $2000.00 more expensive at worst, and the same price as the other at best. It's still not settled, but it's looking so doable.

We will at minimum need to paint my bedroom, as I can't sleep in a room that color. Squirrel and I both like the idea of a blue bedroom, so we may do them both the same color if we find one we both like. Squirrel is going to talk to some friends who know people to get a cost estimate.

* I am trying to get my head around the idea that I'm going to have a safe place to live that can't be taken from me on little notice. At the end of this, I will be as poor as I've always been, but I am going to own where I live outright. Wow!

The cats and the fish are going to be fully legal!

I will not have to contend with stairs if I want to leave my cave!

Air conditioning!

* I am having a variety of physical inconveniences, so I am not sure how much I will be able to do today as far as catching up on news and the Internet.
