May. 27th, 2013 05:41 am* A volcano near the border between Argentina and Chili is on the verge of exploding. They have already evacuated the blind and other disabled people and are in the process of evacuating the able bodied. Good luck to the folk who may be about to lose everything. Let's hope the homes and fields survive.
* It's nice to see Australia going after a pro-child rape Cardinal. Too bad the rest of the world isn't.
* The British police have now arrested ten suspects for conspiracy to murder that poor soldier. There has been a stabbing of a soldier in Paris, though it is unclear if it's connected. One of the suspects in the London murders was kicked out of Kenya in 2010 for connection to Al-Shabaab.
* There were also two Al-Shabaab attack across the Somalia border into Kenya that killed six people over the weekend. The two attacks appear to have been coordinated with each other.
* Remember how Russia's been selling arms to Assad so that he can more efficiently slaughter civilians? Remember also how Assad is sending arms to Lebanon to make the budding civil war there more deadly? Russia's now pissed off that the EU is planning to send arms to the rebels in Syria. Is anyone surprised? Anyone?
* The Administrators of the Pittsburgh VA hospital discovered there was legionella in their water supply. Rather than taking proper steps to, you know, fix that before it killed people less work to use an agent that doesn't kill legionella to treat the water. They didn't even bother to tell staff and patients. As a result five veterans died and sixteen more got sick. One of those killed was a WWII veteran only in for dehydration. How are the people who deliberately poisoned all those people being punished? Have they been arrested for manslaughter? Have they at least been fired? Of course not. They got huge bonuses for "doing such a good job." Have a Great Fucking Memorial Day! There are six more honored dead who would have been alive if they hadn't gone to the hospital to remember today.
* TW: Rape. "Osaka mayor Hashimoto enflames 'comfort women' row:" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22684826
This is really disgusting and completely inexcusable.
Last night, I saw a heartbreaking piece with survivors talking about how they were harmed, but can't find it on the web. These women survived something horrible and having their suffering dismissed this way makes me all stabby. I honestly can't think of a response short of violence appropriate to the situation, so I'll stop now.
