* More than a thousand people have been confirmed dead in the factory collapse in Bangladesh. It is seventeen days since the man made disaster, but they think they have found a woman alive in the rumble. (She is thought to have a water reserve.)

* "Landmark Philadelphia LGBT Equality Bill Signed:" http://transgriot.blogspot.com/2013/05/landmark-philadelphia-lgbt-equality.html

I don' follow Philadelphia politics closely since I don't live there any more, but whenever I see Mayor Nutter he is doing something to make the world a better place. I teared up a little reading this article. The Philadelphia of my teens was one where cops hunted gay men for sport. The police are still refusing to investigate the case of a trans woman who accepted a ride home from police, but they murdered and dumped her on a street corner. I'm used to Philly being enemy territory. It is a huge fucking deal that they are taking major steps to make government jobs fairer and safer. This looks like the sort of progress I didn't expect to see in my lifetime.

Now if they'll start investigating murders and prosecuting murderers, I'll be happy.

* Levar Burton explains the Great Gatsby Reading Rainbow style:

* Re Gatsby. I’ve read the book a bunch of times. When Squirrel and I first saw the trailer in a theater, he asked me after what the book was about. I struggled to explain it. This is not a matter of forgetting, but a matter of having a hard time putting it in to words. I could talk about themes, but how do you explain in a couple sentences why it’s still a big deal in American Literature? The plot isn’t the point, and a summary won’t convince someone it’s worth reading. I’m not convinced a discussion of themes means anything to someone who hasn’t read it. I think this difficulty in putting it into words is why Colbert’s half hour of Gatsby coverage was so good and clever. It manages to talk about it’s importance while acknowledging just how challenging the book I despite it’s length and maybe because of it’s fairly simple plot. I think everyone who’s read it in high school had a similar struggle at some point when faced with class discussions and test questions.

* So it's rp night again.
A bird, a wolf, a bear and a cat walk into a bar.... The Corax and the Bear are our thinkie characters while the cat and the wolf are our fighters. The cat and wolf are both four leg born. The introductory adventure stuff involved a menagerie that was doing things like dog fights and bear baiting. The rescued the animals and did a hit on the owner as he was a disgraced garou and the Silver fang court didn't want to dirty their hands. The thing is, the wolf and the bird have been dealing with the Court as cats and bears are hunted by werewolves. Fangs being Fangs, they keep treating the lupus as the one in charge as she's pure bred even if she's not fang and a wolf. Obviously, the wolf is in charge and the crow is just an adviser, right? This has been great fun for me, watching the socially awkward wolf trying to negotiate for stuff.

Anyway, they tuned up with their bag 'o head today and the King says, "You have done me a favor. I owe you a boon. What shall it be?" Several minutes passed in silence as the poor players scrambled to think of something. The King offered the wolf a chance to Moot with them of his own accord. She eventually asked for an ongoing information thing which may or may not be useful. The Crow is going to get an illuminated visual encyclopedia type thing of the Kingdom. They were invited to go along on a war raid that the crow provoked on the first night of play. The Crow promptly went and warned the Saxons they were coming. The group ended up following the army after a long argument. (The aren't a pack yet and have no leader.) They fled when the Saxon guerrillas attacked, then circled around the long way to Paderborn, where the garrison was planning massive executions, new capituaries, and generally oppressing folks. The tricked the garou, set stuff on fire, and freed the prisoners. Well, three of them did. The wolf was out murdering fleeing Saxons. So they've mostly picked the saxon side, which is awkward when it comes to collecting rewards later, but is rather what I expected them to do. The have refugees and are about to be hunted by really angry Fangs. I am fascinated to see how they survive. May I add, "Bwahahahaha!"

My first thought about the spider bite was...brown recluse. But I'm sure the guy wasn't in the best health either living the rock star life, especially when it came to the liver failure thing. That sounds more like heavy drinking and the spider bite just added to the health issues that might have been already there.
