Feb. 6th, 2013 01:37 am* There are protests in Tunisia in response to the assassination of an opposition leader.
* There is fighting in Gao again, despite french claims of it being pacified. It's sounding like the French forces are dealing a lot of guerrillas with IEDs and minefields.

Before you get worked up, the girl in question isn't trans. However, in a number of countries naming laws have been used to harm trans folk and deny people appropriate ID. As a non-binary trans person, I find binary naming laws particularly offensive. I also fundamentally think people should be allowed to call themselves whatever they damned well like. I would love to see an EU precedent overturning naming laws as it would solve problems for trans folk in a number of countries.
* 1600 people have died from guns in this country since Sandy Hook.
* Re: Chris Cristie. Y'all know I don't like his politics and I am not an admirer. Still, I am really offended by the concern trolling, fat jokes, and people freaking out his kids by speculating about his imminent death on TV. Body shaming is never okay regardless of the target. I expect this crap from the Right, but I expext the Left to know better. It's disgusting and disappointing, and it gets me angry every time I see it.
Need I mention the same goes for inappropriate comments about Hilary Clinton's looks?

I also am trying to restart the blue guppy colony after the great eater disaster. *fingers crossed* I'm warn out and meant to be doing housework. The lung infection I've had since early November is re-surging and is likely seriously anti-biotic resistant by now. I suppose I need to start considering this the new normal, which is incredibly depressing given how exhausting just breathing is.
