* The Japanese scrambled fighters in response to a Chinese plane crossing into the airspace over those islands that have been the center of the posturing. No one was hurt, but it's yet another escalation. It was on the 75th anniversary of the start of the Rape of Nanjing.

* It is thought Assad is using SCUD missiles against his own people. Russia has declared that the Opposition is winning in Syria. As they are Assad's main ally this could signal they are softening supporting the genocide.

* I see the English have started getting Fracking related Earthquakes too.

* They are bailing out Greece.

* Looks like Susan Rice has taken herself out of the running for State.

* Yes, I've seen the epigenetic hoolpa. Looks like it needs more study, so I'm not taking a side until a lot more is known.

* Today was mostly fail. Yet more insurance crap. A call from my sister about how I need to sign papers that aren't here yet right away. Disrupted sleep just generally. Still sick, but improving. (I'm still tired and my head is all stuffed, but I'm a lot less shaky, the muscle ache's down to a reasonable pain level for the season, and my digestive system's starting to recover. I still haven't much appetite, as like the cats, I can't eat what I can't smell.) I did have a fascinating dream about an alternative life in which I moved to Denver instead Oregon when I first came West. In it, my thesis had to do with mourning in fiction (I blame rm), instead of Medieval Court Rolls. It also somehow ended with sexy times with several of the more toothsome members of the Oz cast. Don't ask me to explain the logic. It took me ages to make it to dressed and functional. On the upside, all four cats lined up and ate their medicinal treats without yesterday's drama. My plan was to do some things needing doing then go to an evening showing of Wallflower. Everything took ages. I needed to pick up medical gloves and antihistamines. I still made it to the theater on time, but they'd moved the movie time due to another fund raiser, so I missed it. (The fund raising is important. They got slammed with an industry format change, requiring them to buy three new projectors and only a few months to raise the money or stop functioning as a theater. It's not a big deal for the big chains, but is incredibly rough on the small independents. Especially in this economy. Our non-profit art cinema is rather tapped out, having just built the new theater. I absolutely support them in doing what they have to do to convince people to help them get survive as they are the main place one can see independent, foreign, and queer cinema, the rest of the town being a big chain monopoly. Still it would really help if Fandango showed the correct screening times.) I'd already paid for parking, so I went to the Bayou as they are on the same block, still open at that time, and have at least two things I can eat. Alas, no fried green tomatoes on the specials board, but they make a tasty vegetarian po boy and I have a fondness for beignets due to their role in a particularly interesting 19th century poisoning case. (I have a interest in arsenic addiction which led to an English case that was also tied up in a Ripper diary hoax, which led to an American arsenic addiction case, which was later used in an excellent Sharon McCrumb novel.) Bonus points for having enough seasonings to taste through the tail end of my ick. A whole bunch of swaps came in this week, and I still haven't cataloged them. I still haven't done a bunch of things that require me traveling up the Guide. I need to do more fish maintenance. I need to go to the library while it's open. All I actually want to do is sleep and drink orange juice. Sigh. At least Hector's been eating with a minimum of drama this week, which is a huge help.

* I crossed a hundred followers last night before sleep because of that one post. I suspect they are all going to be terribly disappointed. *facepalm* 2048 Notes when I got up. I've having trouble keeping up.

* I too have this problem with the pain scale: http://partiallyclips.com/2012/12/11/doctors-office/

I am sorry you are going through some difficult times, my friend. Illness and pain are not fun. Even if you are not Catholic or Christian, ( wel I don't know if you are or not) I will keep you in my prayers.

I am wondering if Assad was just bluffing about using Sarin gas. Now there's a guy who won't give up his rule for anything even if it means the destruction of his own people.

I wish you could post photographs of your aquariums and your fish. I'd love to see them.

I am Buddhist, but I don't mind people praying for me unless it's for my conversion).

Assad horrifies me.

I really need to do tank maintenance first. It's also a bit of a hassle taking pictures as it involves switching in the battery and toting the laptop around. Maybe when I'm over this cough.
