gwydion* The fighting continues between Israel and Hamas. The Egyptian president gave a speech in support of Hamas, though there are questions about exactly how far the support goes given conditions on the ground in Egypt and the things that will happen if the Camp David Accords break. The Saudis appear to be distancing themselves with Hamas. It is unclear how the various countries in the Arab League will react if the Israelis drive in the tanks. I know I've said this several times since the start of Arab Spring, but I have no idea what's going to happen in the next month, let alone the next year.

* With the fire inspection, it was unclear if they were going to test all the sensors or just the main one in the front hall, hence us locking up the cats. It turns out, it was the least intrusive option. Hector, saw me moving the litter boxes at bed time, and freaked out. It took ages to convince him to come to bed. Ironically, he took the intrusion well. They set off our alarm, then cut it off. Unfortunately, they had to do this with every alarm in the building and it's a building wide system, so this was half an hour to forty five minutes of the alarms going off randomly. It was quite loud. I freed everyone the minute it was safe for them and put the boxes back. Hector was clearly scared, but allowed me around and came to settle in the bed when I went back to it. he trusts me that much, despite his mental illness. He clearly decided that as long as I was making soothing sounds and not scared myself it was probably going to be okay. Mache the indefatigable, simply moved to a mest further away from the alarms. The poor junior beasties panicked, fleeing from room to room trying to find one in which the alarms weren't and failing. I eventually coaxed the Butt into bed for pettins and that was better, but when I finally got back to sleep once the alarms were done, she was still hiding, poor wee beastie.
