Oct. 17th, 2012 02:07 am* I don't normally put the Fake News in the news section, but this John Stewart interview about the drug war, Racism, and the Prison Industrial Complex is both extremely important and factual.
* So apparently Paul Ryan decided that a good photo op would be to barge into homeless shelter after it was closed against the will of the people running his shelter and then washed already clean dishes to make it look like he gave a shit about the poor, which from his policy position he clearly doesn't. To me the whole incident is an excellent symbol of how hollow the Romney/Ryan's claims to care about the 47% is. Just saying.
* John Stewart mocks Paul Ryan's callous half-assed Homeless Shelter photo op:

* Once I'd dealt with insurance and feed all the fish and cats (goosh!), I decided there was no chance of me cooking, so I ordered out for pizza. In the mail was a post card with an Autumnal poem from my Mummer, and a couple rainbow pins, I'd ordered from zazzle. I was clearly in no moo to deal with the Debate, as my tolerance for lies is low and Mitt Romney has trouble uttering even one sentence without lying, I opted for an evening of zombie movies, cat pettens, BPAL, and bonbons.
* I was seriously bummed out by Survival of the Dead being not even vaguely the movie I had expected from the adverts. Seriously, no wonder it did not sell. Annoyingly, despite the direct connection/overlap with the previous movie in the series, it's continuity with earlier ones rather sucked, to the point of it pulling me right out. I love Romero's earlier work, but I am not impressed by either this or Diary of the Dead. Diary has a few clever moments, but is mostly suck. This... was interesting in concept, but miss marketed and not quite properly executed. It was a closer miss and as a result is like picking a scab. I get the things it was trying to say, I genuinely liked some of the characters. It just... didn't quite jell, for some reason it was hard to put my finger on. Also, I think I would have taken to it better if I hadn't had incorrect expectations. I'm thinking that while Mr. Romero nearly always has interesting things to say, he's been getting a bit too heavy handed lately.
* I expected Flight of the Living Dead to be silly fluff at best, given it's forbears. I had much lower expectations, especially given the snakes on a plane style concept and the rapid down hill trajectory of the "Living Dead" franchise. It actually wasn't that bad as B movies go. It was cheesy and throw away, but they did a lot better with the premise than I had any reason to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to spot a couple underrated actors who's other work I admire working for cheap here amoung the unknowns, and thus bringing more acting talent than a movie of this low caliber could normally bring to bare, even though they were in smaller parts. It's not worth watching more than once, but on a night I'm this burnt out was a reasonable choice.
* I hadn't gotten that good a look at the rams before I put them in the tank. They are supposed to be German blues, but are paler than the ones I found on the internet. This could be from travel stress on the way to the fish store, so I don't expect to see the true colours for another week or two. I was suspecting females, but it will be easier to tell under brighter lighting tomorrow. I'm having trouble telling if I'm seeing a black (female) or blue (male) stripe. It looked black at first, but now I'm thinking blue. So maybe two boys? They were getting along okay together in a much smaller community tank at the store, and the pleco is way bigger than them and there are lots of hides, so I have hopes of this working out even though males can be more aggressive. *fingers crossed folks* I like the brighter colours of the males, but girls fight less, which is why I didn't stress the sex at the store. What I really want are two that get along, hence me wanting them from one tank where they were getting along with each other and two other species. Rams are relatively gentle as cichilds go but individuals vary within a species. I figure aggressive individuals wouldn't be doing that a small such a small space. We'll see. They've each picked an area and seem to be napping in place each time I've gone in to feed Hector.
* There is something wrong with my "u" key. It still works, but needs to be pressed hard and extra long. I've been trying to reread everything to find the missing U's, but it's hard to spot sometimes. Apologies.
