Aug. 16th, 2012 01:55 am* 150 people died in Syria in fighting today plus countless wounded, including folks who were in a hospital in Aleppo during an hour long government bombing and strafing run on it. A lot of the equipment was also damaged and they were already running short on supplies and medical personnel.
* 15% of the legal voters in Philadelphia just lost the right to vote, most of them elderly and/or African American as part of the Republican voter suppression effort they say is solely to "allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania" as there is zero evidence of in person voter fraud in the state of Pennsylvania. They have hired a Republican lobbying firm to publicize the law in republican districts in the hopes that mostly only Democratic citizens will loose their right to vote.
* The Governor of Ohio gave in on his plan to give Republicans more early voting options than Democrats, so instead he's punishing everyone who works for a living by cancelling all of the weekend voting. After all, poor people generally can't afford to take off from work to vote, so the Republican hope is that this will make voting much harder for the working poor, thus benefiting them.
* This does a good job explaining the difference between the President's Medicare policy (cuts over payments to insurance companies and invest the savings back into health care programs) and the Ryan/Romney plan (Cuts the same amount by taking it directly from seniors, cutting their benefits, and making them buy dramatically more expensive insurance for fewer services from insurance companies, all savings to be wasted on Insurance company profits and helping the rich.):
* A man has shot a security guard at the Christian hate group and lobbyists, the Family Research Council. He is believed to be gay and angry over Chick-Fil-A and FRC lobbying to take away his civil rights. Shooting people is wrong. Let's not stoop to their tactics, folks, and keep fighting through legal means. I understand it gets very frustrating, and we are getting beaten and killed every day, but shooting security guards is not the answer.

* I still haven't heard back on the big important bureaucracy, but the extra copies got me back half the EBT money I lost last spring. Next month I'm going to restock my vinegars! The complex painting noticeably progressed and they were still working at 7PM. It looks like they are going for a darker blueish/grey and the same white trim. I'm pleased as I like blue, and usually when a landlord paints they deliberately go for something uglier than the original colour when I moved in, like puke yellow, beige, or rust. I'm calling this a win.
* I am still ridiculously pleased with my corys. I love watching them huddle together under the bridge, or snuffle over it looking for tidbits. I love when they swim across the front as a school. Corys make me happy.
* I had a few hours to kill between appointments today and a free movie voucher, so I went to see Brave. (Yes, I am aware of the erasure. At the same time, I was curious, I want to encourage studios to make more movies with female protagonists, and it was free so I went). They searched me on the way in. Is this fall out from July 20th, do you think? I'm used to lots of extra screening at airports as being disabled I am automatically assumed to be a potential terrorist or drugs smuggler. (If you traveled while disabled, expect the full body screening, extra pat downs, thorough hand search of your carry ons, bottle by bottle medication check, and/or "random" testing of your shoes for explosives. They generally only do two or three of the above per checkpoint, but it can be time consuming so leave extra time when traveling by plane). Are they doing similar profiling at theaters now or are they searching everybody? They weren't searching anybody last Friday when I went to see Bourne, and I was dressed similarly and carrying the same emergency messenger bag.
