gwydion* At least 200 are dead, likely more, in the fighting in Damascus. A forth of Assad’s top Military Adviser, the Intelligence chief, has died as a result of that bombing the other day. Assad has appeared on TV and is therefore alive. Various claims are being made about who holds which part of Damascus are being made by both sides, mostly conflicting. Rebels have taken Aleppo. Sources in Iraq say rebels have taken a bunch of posts along the border and at least 22 border guards are dead. Turkish sources say rebels have taken at least two posts along their borders. Russia continues to block UN sanctions, but the Russian Ambassador says he thinks Assad may step down, but it’s hard to tell what exactly that means in practical terms. Refugees understandably continue to pour into Turkey.
* A gunman wearing a gas mask and using tear gas opened fire at an Aurora (Denver area) Batman premiere, killing 14 and wounding fifty. Someone's been arrested, it sounds like, but there wasn't much in the way of details. It sounds like authorities are searching for a bomb as a precaution. They have evacuated the suspects apartment building as well to check it for bombs.
