* Thursday I was feeling pretty terrible but I had a preliminary hearing on the thing where a very nice, over-enthusiastic social worker accidentally filed paperwork before we got clearance, thus costing me a hundred dollars and change. She is helping me get the debt to go away on the grounds that it was not caused by anything I did. Apparently this is not a simple thing as I had assumed, but a process involving a real judge. *facepalm* So now I need a pro bono lawyer because I've no idea wtf I am meant to be doing. Like what documents? What witnesses? How do I write and submit a filing?

I should have just paid it out of my stimulus even though it wasn't my fault, but that money is gone and the lady was so distressed about it that I went along with it so here we are. It was too late to call the free lawyer number after the hearing so that and calling the social worker about being a witness are on my to do along with figuring out the portal for the administrative hearing thingie.

Meanwhile I spent all day trying to deal with a massive amount of pain and trying not throw up. There will be basically no real sleep tomorrow because things are arranged so people are going to wake me up every couple of hours needing me to do stuff.

Oh and while I was asleep today the cats held Blerpfest 2021 in the common areas of the apartment. It's my fault. I should have given them the medicine finger a couple of days ago, but I'm on week two of barely keeping food down and medical stuff and blood loss and I am pretty much barely managing basics like leaving bed, feeding cats and fish, watering plants, etc.. Everyone's had the medicine finger, but Tavy didn't get a full dose, so I';ll likely have to distress him again in a couple of days.

* Biopsy results came in. Two types of precancerous cells, including a colony of particularly aggressive ones, which are likely causing the problem.

When I had that tumor colony back in '07, we named it Herberton on the grounds that Herbert struck us as a good name for a tumor.

The little monsters currently growing in my innards need a name. Suggestions? Quirky is good.

* So a friend is wanting to get a better idea of "How we got here," if you follow me. I'm not an Americanist, and I'd love help with suggestions. I suggested Drift, but Rachel Maddow, which he liked. He's currently reading "The General vs. the President: MacArthur and Truman at the Brink of Nuclear War" on his own account. I've suggested a few other things like Foner's reconstruction and Bag Man. I did toss in a decent thing on the Vietnam War. Anyone have good suggestions for other US History Stuff? Something modern and nuanced on the Great Depression? Something on the rise of the Religious Right? Really anything that does good progressive US history how we got here stuff.

We're also looking for world history stuff. Most of the really good books I know for the last couple centuries are things like BAME in UK, or women's history, or random things like that, or medieval or early modern. I pay attention, but my modern World history studies have been random, based on things that particularly interested me.

I should dig up my old syllabi if I can find them, but in the mean time I'd love suggestions. Have a favorite history book in English explaining how the world or a particularly country got in this mess? Toss it up!
